I actually didn't get into mass effect till after it was released. Looked good so i rented it and then spent the next 3 days playing the hell out of it. Was one of the few games I skipped class to play...and It was totally worth it

Seriously, the music+scene= best trailer ever made. It was the first time a trailer made me stand up and cheer like a baby.
I ordered for both games the day after.

To be honest at first I thought that Mass Effect was a crappy game not worth any attention at all. Later on when I noticed one of my friends on xfire playing it I had asked him "Hey m8, can you broadcast this game? I'd like to see what's it about". So he started his broadcast and I saw Battle of Ilos. I loved the game and on the next day I bought the game after school (I was 17 back then).I know that Battle of Ilos was very spoilerific, but I loved the game a lot (except some riddiculous planets like Eletania). That's how my Mass Effect journey began. Right now like others I'm waiting for ME3 to fight the Reapers and show them who's boss.

This is going back many years but the first I heard of Mass Effect dates back to its development stage.
One day I bought a magazine while playing my old Xbox 360 just so I could browse through whatever new games were coming out in the coming year. When I got bored of that, I decided to watch the CD that came with it. It was there I was checking out a developer diary by BioWare on Mass Effect which included all the preview footage from before, including pre-default Male Shepard threatening a Salarian bartender and forcing Garrus to stay in line over a debate about saving Human miners. Naturally I was intrigued about this little sci-fi adventure and kept my eyes peeled, though at the time I was still a major Star Wars fan and was more interested in my KotOR.
Come release day while I was working at Blockbuster, I learn we had a limited edition version of the game on retail, so I saved it and bought it. When I got home to play it, I was stunned by how incredibly awesome this game was. The story was top-notch, the characters were insanely loveable and the adventure was unforgettable.
It goes without saying that my anticipation and excitement about ME2 and ME3 are all thanks to that one magazine I bought out of sheer boredom when my 360 was still a 20GB, old and loud. I had little 360 games at the time and it was definately a unique addition to my collection. God bless you, BioWare.

One day, after returning from somewhere (I really don't remember
) I glimpsed my brother and his best buddy, Nick playing ME. I saw the intro, the Anderson-Udina-Shepard first chat and Saren's 'trial' and was amazed. All this politcs and depth in a game was what I wanted. To my surprise, these 2 (after all, they were 13) thought that the game was too bland and boring, so I asked Nick whether I could borrow the game. He then told me of the game's DRM (mostly that it wasn't required to play with the DVD inside). Excited, I installed the game to my brand new Ultra windows 7 PC only to find out that it wouldn't play (figures). I serached the net, but for some reason I don't really know found no solution to the game's compatibility problem.
However, I noticed an advertisment of a just released ME2. I was a bit bored, so I saw the launch trailer. Needles to say, I was amazed and also realised that the series were BioWare, the creator of my first RPG KOTOR. The next day, I went to the local shop and gave 50 bucks for the PC version of ME2. Since then, I have finished ME2 4 times, fixed the compatibility issues of ME and played it 2 times and I am currently working on my canon playthrough all the way from ME to ME2 with all story DLC downloaded. I have yet to find a better game than ME2

I don't really remember the particulars anymore. Someone on another forum linked to a preview video and I was sold immediately. Mass Effect is the reason I bought an Xbox 360 in the first place. That's how much stock I used to place in Bioware's games.

I fell out of the loop from Video Games for a few years. Until 2009, I hadn't gamed real hard since 2005. During 05' I was in college, and it was my last year and I was hitting the books really hard. I still gamed but not as much. I fell out of the loop. I could still pick up the sticks and whoop up on anyone in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and other fighting games but I always possessed great skill in fighting games.
I had extensive surgeries from April 2008 to April 09. During my recovery, two of my best friends, gave me the ultimate care package. One of them let me borrow his 360, and the other some games. The homie with the games had told me about Mass Effect, I went online and looked at it on youtube. I was like "wow!" First off looking at the trailer on youtube and playing it for real are two different things. Once I beat Eden Prime, I was hooked! The Citadel was so beautiful to me. I can truly say that ME has been the best gaming experience I ever had. It was awesome. The fact that you can alter your character's appearance and his destiny was incredible to me. Also the story was so rich, you would think it could really happen! Later that year I heard about ME2 via E3. Excited? You bet I was lol. It's been on ever since.
I'm looking forward to part 3. My only disappointment from playing ME was that once it was over, I wanted more lol.

I read about Mass Effect 2 in a game Informer magazine a little over a year ago. I didn't get ME1 until about eight months ago. And then I remembered that there was a sequel, and I bought that about five months ago.

Having played Kotor 1 & 2 probably over 50 times I was craving for more good RPG's. I knew BioWare could do no wrong so I started investigating and I stumbled across Mass Effect for the PC.
I bought it, played it for about 10 minutes and hated it 100%.
And then I didn't play it for over 3 weeks.
I then decided "hey, come on, you hated Kotor in the beginning but why don't you give it another go."
So I did the same and well... I fell in love with it. Literally, love. The game just drew me in and I've been a die hard fan since.
Funny isn't it. The same thing happened to me for KotOR, ME and DA:O. I gave up on each game after a few mins, took a break and then did the whole "give it another shot" and loved it. I scooped up ME2 and DA2 instantly... but... let's just... forget about DA2... *looks back at signature edition and tear falls down cheek* BioWare... could... do n-no wr-wrong... *slowly buries game* it d-didn't h-h-happen... *shovels earth over grave*

I've got to admit, I was late to the party. The first time I've heard about Mass Effect must have been from reviews, but I only have vague memories of that. What I do remember was having ME2 shoved down my throat at the time it came out. Seriously, no matter where I went on the web, there were these strange promos playing that had some woman and a lizard (Miranda and Grunt, as I later learned) talking about stuff. At that point, I recalled having heard about Mass Effect before, and thought, "why not?"
Since I refuse to jump into a series midway through, I started with the first game. Now, I've got to say that I barely had any experience with rpgs until this point--fps, tps, rts yes, but no rpg--so it was entirely new to me. And from the moment I saw the title screen, it blew my mind. I remember playing it throughout the weekend, and that I had no access to it during the next week. In those few days, I was dead to the world. I simply couldn't focus on anything else--my mind had become permanently fixed on Mass Effect. It made me laugh, it made me cry (Virmire marked the first time in my life when I cried over a game), and in the end, I sat back and watched the credits, feeling like I'd really just saved the world. Ever since then, I've been a Mass Effect fanatic.
Oh, and the icing on the cake: exactly ten years before all of this, I walked into a store and picked up a game from one of the shelves. I was only eight years old at the time and I didn't speak English at all, and yet I played the heck out of that game. Its title was Baldur's Gate 2. One of the three games I remember from my childhood. A game I forgot about for ten years, but I still have some of my fondest memories about. In hindsight, I wonder what the chances had been. I knew nothing about rpgs--I had no idea what BG2 was really about, until Mass Effect made me replay it. I could have picked any other game, but I didn't. It seems like I was destined to be a Bioware fan, it just took me some time to find my way back to them... and I'm so glad I did.

I found ME as per every other Bioware game, via BioWare's Forums.
Never got it on release cause of tight budget, but I did manage to purchase it later on

Picked up ME1 a few months after it came out.
Got distracted by WoW.
Didn't play it until 3 months later.
Play it.
Get past Eden Prime, didn't play it until 6 months later.
Play it again, hooked.
Since then I've been systematically hunting down every Bioware, Obsidian, Black Isle, Bethesda, choice making games out there. Even if I have to trudge my way through every copy cat out there I'm going to find a game that can match the amazement I felt when I realized I could choose what I wanted to do, say, and kill.
...At least until ME3

Played Dragon Age at BF's house. Loved it. Bought it.
Saw the Mass Effect 2 ad in the Pamphlet. Then saw the hype it was getting and bought it. Realized I need to make decisions from ME to get the story I want. So I bought both.
