I went to gamestop to try and get Assassin's Creed shortly after it's release. It was 2 weeks until my birthday so being 16 I was unable to purchase it. When I was leaving the store I saw a cardboard cutout of Mass Effect. I thought it looked cool but didn't pay much attention 2 weeks later I went to walmart to purchase Assassin's Creed and saw Mass Effect. I got both, and the crap outta Mass Effect.

2010, I had some extra christmas money and I had played the crap outta Dragon Age and was waiting for the expansion. I noticed ME2 was made by Bioware and said "why the hell not?" and bought it, even without importing saves I still loved it. Then I decided months later to get ME1 so I could get a better understanding of the universe, after beating it a few times and importing characters I realized ME2 is a lot better with ME1 game saves.

I was reading GameInformer way back in 06. I read about this new game "Mass Effect" and my interest was piqued by promises of "fully explorable planets, ships and space stations". Naturally I jumped to the conclusion that somehow you'd be able to literally go from one end of a planet to another. After that, I was only aware of it tangentially, until I got it late 07, I believe.
Anyway, that's my grand and glorious tale of my emergence of interest.

Well I first heared it from some people in a server I was in while playing Gmod who kept saying "Wrex,,, Shepard" and I was like "lol what the crap?". That is when they told me that it was from ME1. I really didn't care about it then but then I saw ME2 on steam but didn't really look into it. It wasn't until DA2 told me that "hey FYI you got a free copy of ME2!" that I actually got it. And after playing through 2 I was like "Crap why didn't find this sooner?" And after completing it once I played ME1. I don't usually play/read/but/do things out of order but since I got ME2 for free I wanted to know I liked it which I, of couse, did.

Got Origins for Christmas and after I finished it someone at work mentioned the same studio made ME, had a nose on Amazon and figured since I loved the old Wing Commander games and it was only a fiver it'd be worth a look.

I was aware that there was this new hot title for the 360. However, since ME was a new game I really did not care about pre-ordering it. ME was however in my mind. After the 2nd day of ME's release, I decided to pick up the ME limited edition from gamestop. When I went there they said that you need to preorder the limited edition to get the limited edition. An employer however said that some random person cancelled his preorder, and asked me if i wanted it. My mom bought that LE edition for me and I was pretty happy. The night came when I played the game and I was stoked. My dad was impressed by the graphics of the game. My brother wanted to play it too lol. I went infiltrator, and my brother went vanguard. **** YEAH bring on ME3 ****es.

I've heard about the ME series here and there, but the final push I think was the reference in the Extra Credits episode Enriching Lives. That really piqued my interest and I Googled a bit about the series. It'd only be a month or two later though that I actually got another Xbox 360 (up to that point I'd had four red rings of death and was fed up with Microsoft's plastic excrement of a seventh generation console, letting the thing gather dust) and the first thing I did was get a copy of Mass Effect 2. And then after beating it I got the first Mass Effect.
This isn't related, but now I've had six breakdowns with my Xbox 360 total, the two new ones being E74. Ugh. I hope my Xbox holds when Mass Effect 3 comes out.

I watched my brother play Mass Effect 2.
At first I didn't really want to play it, but it was interesting to watch.
Then I decided to give it a go when my brother had ended the game... It was amazing

Half a year ago I watched a Cutscene video on YT called "Commander Shepard Is Still A Jerk." Then I watched a youtube poop about Shepard's "Disingenuous Assertions." A month later I bought ME2. 3 playthroughs later I bought ME1. And now I'm here, waiting for ME3.

I was shoulder deep in essays, exams and studying in college...hadn't played video games for a while to give my schooling 100% focus. I heard of it and knew it was from Bioware, but didnt know much else. A few months after its release I was done with school and needing to unwind and take it easy. I casually asked my friend about good rpgs out and he reminded of Mass Effect. I looked it up on Wikipedia, then drove to pick it up.
Over the next three weeks, I lived, slept, and breathed Mass Effect.

Went to video game store to buy something to play, got really bored, and the guy that works there was playing ME2 at computer, they are allowed, won't get fired. So I started asking him what should I buy, and he was like MASS EFFECT 2!! I was, OK, just calm down. I bought it, went home, installed it, and was like NOW I GET IT WHY YOU WERE ECSTATIC
When I finished it for 10th time, I bought ME1, but I still don't like it as much as the second one. So, that's all there is to the story.

A lot of hilarious stories here. Just want to necro this, and see if anybody else wants to add something. Hopefully Bioware/EA has read some of these.

Cool thread.
I was sitting around bored, and had a yen for a good RPG, of which there are very few. Because of KOTOR, I searched on Steam for Bioware games. ME 1 was the one I picked. No regrets at all, one of the best spur of the moment purchases I ever made.
Shortly after that, because of ME1, I bought ME2. This one, I regret. It did not carry the spirit of the first game and I was quite shocked.

Got bored sometime around march 2010. Nothing much was coming out for the xbox so I decided to go and buy something for the hell of it. Saw ME2 on the shelf, and I recognised the name from somewhere.
Thought to myself, if the name rings a bell, but I haven't actually looked for it, then it must have been mentioned by somebody which means they probably liked it.
Picked it up, thought it was epic, went back the next day to get ME1 and played both games back to back.
Spent near enough 2 whole days and 1 night of continuous playing, but it was worth it.

I had just got back from Afghanistan and had 3 weeks leave so i was looking for a new game for the PS3. I looked at the cover for ME2 and thought it looked pretty good so bought it and was hooked instantly, bit of a lucky find really but thank god i did find it. After completing ME2 i dusted off the 360 and i am now working my way through ME1.

I won an Xbox from Burger King, and while I was looking through some of Angry Joe's reviews for something good, I got Dragon Age. I went onto these forums a few months later looking for something, I forget what, and noticed Mass Effect 2 was up at the top. I looked up Angry Joe's review, and bought it a few months later when I had the money.
And there's my fantastic story. Blaming Angry Joe.
