I'd finally started using Steam, and it was just before the summer deals this year. I bought a couple games and played them for a bit. And then I saw that Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 were both on sale for $6 each and figured I'd give them a shot since everyone seemed to like them.

It's been like two months since there and I haven't touched any of my other games since then. DAMN these are good games. XD

Jesus suggetsted that I try it. Honestly. That's what his name tag said. It was pinned to his Blockbuster shirt. He seemed to know what he was talking about. Thank you Jesus!

I wanted to play a science-fiction video game, being a huge science-fiction fan.  I came across Mass Effect in I think 2008.  It's pretty much my ideal image of a science-fiction universe.

After playing through Dragon Age Origins a bajillion times, I eventually saw ads for Mass Effect 2.
I'd seen ads before, but never really considered it since I didn't get a PS3 until 2010.
As soon as I saw a copy of ME2 for PS3, I grabbed it. I read up on all the lore I missed and learned as I played through. Now I hope to get ME1 for PC once I have a non-crappy computer.

Found Me1 in a Game shop for £4.99, for that price you cant go wrong, loved it all apart from the Mako nonsense.

Went back to Game to buy Me2 and it cost me £20, installed it, fired it up and within 15mins I was gutted, nothing but a kiddie console port, the "holding your hand" section at the start had me rofling soo much.

The only thing that hangs it all together is a continuation of a fantastic story tbh, £20 oouch.

Me3 ?, no way in hell am I paying full list price for another kiddie console port, shall wait till it costs me £4.99, lolz

You do realise that ME1 was originally a 360 exclusive? If anything, that is the console port.

Christmas is coming, and my parents want to know what to get me. My friend would NOT shut up about this "Mass Effect" game, and after months of yammering at me, I finally caved in and told him I'd ask for Mass Effect 1 & 2 for Christmas. Christmas day, I take my new games down to my Xbox, pop in Mass Effect 1, and fell in love as soon as the menu music started up. Didn't touch any other games for months. After persistently nagging my sister to play it, SHE finally caves in and becomes even moreso in love with the game. We now try to "recruit" friends who haven't had the privilege to play it, spreadin' the Mass Affection around. :D

Me1 on the PC had the "feel" of a PC game, Me2 does not, the start just feels very very childish, the hand holding, go to locker, get armor, pick up gun, reload gun, stand here, take cover, its total ROFL stuff.

Later on the game does grow up a bit, but not much, still a fantastic game, great story, they just made it very childish to broaden the market base, cant really blame them, money talks.

Dont get me wrong, I am not anti-console, I dont get involved in all that PC vs Console nonsense, (I even own an Xbox360), but something went badly wrong with Me2, they tried to broaden the market too much, and that diluted it, made it go all errrr

 Kiddie Console, ooops, sorry

I'll take "kiddie" from you with a grain of salt.  Clearly we aren't playing the same game.  I suggest picking up Mass Effect 2 for the PC.  It's a great story-telling game and third-person shooter.  Not sure what you played, but what I played wasn't a "kiddie console" game.

God forbid the tutorial showing you how to play the game. Eden Prime also tells you how to play the game.

Looks like I have hit on a touchy subject, lol

Ok, please explain how on earth you can compare the start of Me2 (the point at which you take control of shepard) with Eden Prime ?

Of course you have to ease a player in gently, give them a chance to get a feel for the game, but that hand holding nonsense at the start of Me2 bears no relation to Eden Prime.

Plus, lets take an example from later in the game, Tali's loyalty mission, I tend to leave it fairly late in the game.

Soo, all the geth are dead, Tali's father has been found dead on the floor, its job done, Sheps had his little shouting match at the trial, Tali has been found not guilty, its a done deal, you get the idea.

But I dont want to leave yet, I want to talk to all the people who are hanging around, because you can pick up some paragon points, plus the convo is fairly interesting for a change, lol.

And how do Bioware at this late stage in the game reward me for wanting to have a chat with some npc's ?

They flash "Press and Hold F to end the mission" all over my screen, not just once, constantly, all over my conversation wheels, lol

So, at this late stage in the game, Bioware think that I still dont know how to end a mission !!!!!???

I would not mind so much if pressing F did indeed end my mission, but I changed my key bindings, and Bioware could not even be bothered to put in a routine that checks for changed key bindings.

Like I said, kiddie console.

Thats my opinion, and I am entitled to it.

I didn't have anything really good to play at the time, saw this game called Mass Effect in the new releases section and thought the cover and description on the back looked cool. Little did I know it would then consume my life!

Hmm. I was online one day, looking at RPG game titles on a video game site, and watching video reviews.

So, I noticed Mas Effect 1 had a high, respectable score. NOt perfect mind you, but very good. I must have watched that video 20+ times before I just said: You know what, it sounds good, it looks fun, I think I'm going to buy it.

Bought it.
Started to play it.
Then I start to think to myself: "This might be one of the greatest RPG games of all time"
The reason I thought it was so good was simply the MOD that you could put into weapons, and how you could find Armors and equip them in real time, and even see your newly equipped armor in each cut scene.

I had just bought my Xbox to play GTA IV. Then i played Fallout 3. Thinking that only 2 games for my console were too few, i looked what RPGs the platform offered. I found Fable 2 and Mass Effect. Fable had a demo, but i didn't like the looks and the simplicity at the time.
But i actually had concerns to buy Mass Effect BECAUSE it was a Bioware game. My only Bioware games before were Neverwinter Nights, which bored me in Chapter 2, and Baldur's Gate, which i simply didn't understood. But i was a very boring summer, and the game was already cheap, so i invested my 15 €....
Since then i played the Mass Effect games many times, and it led me to Dragon Age and even to appreciation of the old Bioware games which i formerly despised. So this 15 € were a good investment.

i randomly heard two people talking (who i didn't even know). all i remember is one of them saying something along the lines of "all i want to do today is get mass effect 2." i looked up the game very briefly online i saw it was xbox only (i had an xbox, but mainly played my Ps3), so i passed on it. few months later i heard mass effect 2 was coming to the Ps3, which got me interested. i rented mass effect one for the xbox and completely fell in love with it. beat it four times. got the ps3 version of me2 when it was released and i have been hooked on the series ever since.

I have some friends who buy games from Steam. I saw one of them at some point was playing Mass Effect through Steam, asked her how it was and she said it was nice. she linked me screenshots etc and I decided to try. I wound up buying ME 1 and 2 and I bought all DLCs for ME 2.

Saw it advertised on Steam and it also had a 94% review (Played Mass Effect 2 first). Watched the trailer, and it didn't give me much information so I just bought it based on the reviews. Turns out, this is one hell of a game. I love Mass Effect. Awesome series.
