Dragon Fight in Deep Roads.

This is my party:
Hawke: Rogue
Aveline as Tank
Bethany as Healer/Supporter
Varric as DPS
This fight seems impossible. I can't go further than 50% of dragon's health, it hits like a truck literally it hits like 40% of aveline's health in one shot, and what I've noticed with this game's problem, is that the cooldowns of healing spells and potions are too freaking long, literally it has to be like 5-10 seconds earlier, even if I also had Anders with me (which I cannot, due to Varric the dumb dawrf occupying one space) the way dragon hits is just too much, you can't outheal that!
I'm out of any ideas, would appreciate any tactical advice.

Well anyway, cold damage halps, debuffs help and dps concentration helps. You'll have to micromanage a bit probably, such bosses are not so much a tanking thing as attack avoiding thing. You can sidestep most of the attacks. Try stay behind him with your rogue also and if he changes your target run away.
Also some helpful videos (well, perhaps), they're nightmare runs, but should show off a bit of stuff that's used: http://social.biowar...index/6972652/1

If you look at the speed run videos, there are ways to kill him very, very quickly abusing CCCs. However, these may no longer apply with the new patch.

Watch some of the videos posted above. Most the dragon's melee attacks are avoidable if you strafe around it. When you see the dragon rear up it's either going for an aoe stun, pull or a breath attack...you can avoid taking unnecessary damage by moving out of range and then coming back to smash it from behind. It's not a standard tank and spank. Much more helpful to be a nimble tank here and just juke the dragon's melee while the rest of your party kills it.

Well the dragon will chase you up there as well, but is useful for kiting.
I would suggest checking the companion builds by SB and use his tactics. Those make a world of difference with your squad not getting killed all the time.

Mabari war hound: He's the easiest way to pull threat. Just call him up, have your players hold position, then let him run out to the middle of the battle field and watch as the enemies go right for him. Don't leave him hanging too long because he'll get creamed. Let your mage and rouge (Varrick) do some attacks while the enemies are distracted.
Black Emporium: Just in case you need to reset your skills get Makers Sigh potion and take it to the head. To revive fallen players get Mythal's Favor.
Tips: For this battle it's easier to have two mages, but since you only have one stock up on some health potions, grenades/bombs, mana/stamina potions, and weapon coatings (poisons). Make sure you have completed ALL the available quests before you go into the deep roads so you have the proper level ups to get the skills and attributes you need. **EDIT**When Sandal gives you the frost rune, don't forget to enchant it. Put it in Varricks weapon (bianca) for the best results. You get around +8 frost damage.
Party Required Attributes: Hawke Rogue: Miasmik flask with level up, backstab (with all level-ups), twin fangs, blindside. Varrick: bursting arrow, archers lance, hail of arrows, rhyming triplet. stealth, miasmik flask, kickback, biancas song. Mage: Heal, winters grasp with all upgrades, cone of cold with all upgrades, mind blast, crushing prison with all upgrades if possible. If you have anders all panacea tree skills. If you have Bethany or Merrill stone fist & petrify. Aveline: sheild defense, sheild bash, safe guard, immovable, pommel strike.
Tactics: As a rule of thumb always give every character at least three defensive moves first in case they are being attacked, especially for your mages and ranged weaklings. Set your tactics 1-2-3 as defensive moves with the corresponding skills named above: Self being attacked by a melee attack: miasmic flask, bursting arrow, stealth, cone of cold, stone fist, winters grasp, mind blast. You want defensive skills that will stun the enemy for a quick get away or blast them far away. Have your mage heal once health reaches below 25%.**EDIT**Set your characters to take a health potion when health gets below 25% or 10%.
Use cross class combos: Have your mage use crushing prison, winters grasp, cone of cold, and petrify on the dragon. This will hem him up and cause him to become BRITTLE (and slow). Then use bursting arrow, archers lance, rhyming triplet, and kickback (varrick). The first two moves will give you damage bonus for the BRITTLE cross-class combo. Next coat your weapon with a debilitating poison and use back stab, miasmic flask, and twin fangs. This will give you more damage bonus plus stun the dragon even more.
By this time the dragon should be distracted by aveline and your war hound. It's easy to avoid his attacks because he'll be so slow. When the dragonlings come out make sure you protect your ranged fighters, although they should handle themselves a little with the defensive moves you set up. Next, give the dragon a 4-way ramming by having everyone throw out a grenade. Just switch between characters and throw out the bombs. This won't work on nightmare because dragons eat up fire damage.
Watch Aveline's health and don't forget you can switch between players to manually take a potion. Watch your warhound too. If he dies, just wait 30 sec and call him back. Use other attacks as you wish, but the ones I named work pretty well.

This video was completed using the 1.02 patch. I have since tested the fight with 1.03 and the times are unchanged so the video still applies.
Holly crap, that is insane. I noticed you invested all attribute points into dex for rogues and magic for mages. Is this a speed run thing only, or do you actually always play like this?

Aveline at this point should be tough as nails if you specced her correctly. She should take very little damage.
Regardless, I used the guides, as stated above, have a great mix of CC, AE/AoEs and re-directing through varric. (Which, btw, varric's threat is nasty, I found myself running around the room with him an awful lot).
I was able to one shot this boss, BUT, it took a long time due to all of the moving involved.
