Many budgets are very tight, with commodities soaring, lasting high unemployment, a very weak housing market...the list goes on and on and on.
How has the rotten economy influenced the gaming industry? Are developers tightening their belts and watching costs to ensure they can still operate? How has it impacted your purchasing of games? Will the industry suffer a big blow, or is the demand high enough to keep prices on games and gaming technology low and is there enough competition to ensure continued quality?
How has the horrendous economy in America effected the video games imdustry?

There's an old joke that when the economy tanks you can expect the stock of booze manufacturing companies to go up. For similar reasons I suspect the video game industry is fairly insulated.
Video games are a form of escapist entertainment and it tends to be pretty cheap entertainment per hour. It's not as cheap as books or TV, but most titles are cheaper than movies (some of them that charge $60 for a 6 hour campaign aren't) and are cheaper than most live entertainment. There will be some sales lost to austerity, but some sales gained from depression and increased free time, I'm not sure entirely how that balances out.
