So there is a whole site devoted to this important subject. www.sideboob.org

This photo is not from that site, but I thought it might still be relevant.

It's too much when it is obvious that the developer put it there as eye candy.

Especially nudity. Some games introduce it as eye candy so obviously that it's awkward.

I wonder how you can tie 'too obvious' or 'eye candy' to the act of consuming love between 2 individuals.

Here's an example from ME1: Benezia was clearly modelled the way she was to be eye-candy. In fact, in the scene after Eden Prime where Saren is busting up Sovereign's bridge, at one point the camera looks at Benezia and it actually shifts down slightly so that her cleavage is fully in the shot. Totally gratuitous. The ME1 romance scenes, on the other hand, were tasteful even though they contained quite a bit more nudity.

I am actually referring to a game that had situations where NPC nudity was obviously there for the eye candy. It was extremely cheesy. And yes, this applies to romances too. If the player understands that the sideboob is there just to please him/her, then that's a failure caused by the cinematic designer's misdirection.

This. So much this.

That's one interpretation.  Another is that one of the traits they wanted to portray in her character design is "maternal".

When I first saw that I thought it was a really cool touch - I thought they were modelling an 80s human cameraman making a tiny adjustment while VT was rolling (rather than the flawless pans and zooms we're used to these days).  Maybe I was overthinking it, though.

Guys, the whole game is there "just" to please the audience.  Enjoying looking at a side boob is not somehow less worthy than enjoying looking at the Destiny Ascension.

I'm fairly sure that that was to make her look more maternal, and besides, she is literally designed to look old, why would they try to make her look attractive?

Ugh, why do all the good threads have to get locked because someone just has to post an inappropriate picture or make a prejudiced comment? >:[

Well the pic clearly illustrated what the topic was about, so I think it was alright. Besides, I really can't see the harm in pics showing that little. people need to relax a little and stop being so afraid of the human body.

Look, that sort of stuff that is clearly defined in the forum guidelines will get this thread locked.
Locked threads of discussion are bad. Please be PG in your conversation.

Logically too much side boob is when it is no longer a side boob but a boob. Not that I care, boobs - sides or not - are always nice.

I think ME1 handled it pretty well, Not perfect, but well. ME2 got it all wrong. Bioware has prided itself on handling romances maturely (well, I don't know about DA2 or not). I think they can give that same level of maturity to the visual aspect as well, without going all skinimax on us.

Just interesting people seem to be focusing on the whole breast thing as an acceptable benchmark, so just as an alternate question, do you think the only side boob could possibly work or do you think the frontal breasts but nothing else, is still acceptable?

People can go to the beach like that without being acused of 'engaging in porn activities', so why not?
