UPDATE: As of Patch 1.02a, this problem has been resolved, at least for me. I didn't do anything, other than run Steam to update the game.

------

I've been struggling with the same issue since launch day: I can't get DAO to recognize my internet connection. I know others have also had this problem. Has anyone made any progress?

Originally I was running the Steam version of DAO. I could play, but DAO wouldn't let me login (the "Log In" button was grayed out, disabled), so i couldn't get to any of my DLC. Eventually, EA Tech Support told me to uninstall the Steam version and re-install DAO via EADM. Now EADM doesn't recognize my connection either -- which means DAO won't activate, which means I can't play at all. At least with the Steam version I could get the game to run, DLC or no.

I'm running Win7 x64.

Fixes I've attempted:
--Checking "Dedicated Internet Connection" in DAO configuration tool
--Using the DAO configuration tool's "Add Firewall Exception" button
--Creating my own firewall exceptions, in both Windows Firewall and my third-party firewall software
--Disabling both Windows Firewall and my third-party firewall software
--Forwarding the following ports on my router: 80, 443, 1024-1124, 6878, 9960-9969, 18000, 18060, 18081, 18120, 27900, 28910, and 29900
--Setting up a DMZ on my router for my machine
--Skipping the router and plugging straight into my modem
--Disabling ECN (the "netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled" command, from command prompt, run as administrator)
--Setting all the DAO executables (and Steam, and now EADM) to run as administrator
--Setting all the DAO executables (and Steam, and now EADM) to run in various compatibility modes: Vista SP2, WinXP SP3, etc.
--Uninstalling and re-installing DAO (and Steam when I was using the Steam version, and EADM now that I'm using the EADM version)
--Entering my activation code manually into EADM (got the "The product code submitted is already used" message)
--Calling EA Tech Support to get a *new* product code to enter manually (got the same message)

Also, I upgraded to an entirely new CPU and motherboard in the middle of this process, and I tried all of these fixes with the new hardware -- no difference. So that rules out compatibility issues with my onboard network adapter, etc.

If you're having the same problem, PLEASE contact EA about it. Here's the EA PC tech support phone number: (650) 628-1905. If we want this problem fixed, we have to let EA know it's actually a problem.

I've gone back and forth with EA and they just keep closing my service call without resolving the issue. haven't heard back from them in over a week.

DeathByCotton: How are you contacting them? Chat and email were a waste of time for me. My call to phone support got some attention: my ticket was escalated to Tier 3 support. But that was a week ago, and as I mentioned, Tier 3's suggestion -- switching from Steam to EADM -- was actually a step *backward*. I've heard nothing from them since, despite several follow-ups by phone and email.

I had this problem last night for a little while but it went away after a machine reset. It was saying that I didn't have internet available on my machine even though the online profile button brought me the the social network just fine.....

There seems to be some very odd things happening with the game's connectivity to the online profile servers and networking in general because you either get no character updates, a "timed out" message or a "Internet not connected to this computer" message. The worrying thing is that it's rarely the same problem as it keeps inconsistently jumping around.

I have been getting the 'No internet connection' problem recently; for the first few weeks it was fine, connected without fail, but in the last few days it has not allowed me to log in through the game itself, claiming I don't have an active internet connection (I'm using it to type...). I have a DVD retail version, so its not associated with the original posters' Steam issues, but annoying all the same.

My character page is also way out of date; achievements and level are about where I was a few weeks back.

I have the same problem, It has never recognized my internet connection. I manualy downloaded and installed the content I was supposed to get with the collectors edition. CE items, blood armour, edge and stone prisoner. Edge and blood armour now work but CE items dont. The first part of stone prisoner works where you talk to the merchant but world map wont update with the village where you get the golem. I've tried using developer console to force to the location but cant get it to work. Would rather EA or Bioware actually fixed the problem rather than force us to try to find a work arround but dont hold out much hope.

I was having the same problem, just got it worked out this morning.

You must unblock ports 80 (TCP/UDP), 8000 (TCP), 8001 (UDP), 443 (TCP), and 18081 (TCP) for the game to even recognize you are online and let you connect up.

They don't list the 18081 port in the manual or website, but it is necessary.

@borque87: To be fair, I didn't list 8000-8001 among the ports I opened. (I'll edit my first post this evening when I'm not posting from my phone.) That said, I DID open them, and it didn't help. Alas.

Hey guys, same problem for me, I port forwarded everything as blrnstone post but when trying netstat -b option I see the following:

TCP -------------- 159.153.235.3:18081 SYN_SENT

[DAOrigins.exe]

TCP ------------- localhost:8000 ESTABLISHED

[DAOrigins.exe]

which means I have a connection on port 8000 but port 18081 did not get any response.

also trying just to ping 159.153.235.3 return time out...

lost hope already, this is just b/s...

Guys, I fix it, the problem was not port forwarding but the firewall on my router which I put on low option. That fix the issue.

Hey Caylix, do not know if you've already fix it, if not just suggestion. If you have a router then most probably you have one firewall on windows and one on router, try to turn off both and take a look if it come through...

How exactly do you do that, could you give me a step by step on that

Also, how do you run the game as administrator?

For future reference, it looks like the specific setting that EA's server doesn't like is ECN Capability. If anyone else has this problem, open an elevated command prompt (run as administrator) and use the following:

netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled

This works on Vista/Win 7 machines, not so sure about XP though.

Best of luck folks
