Hear me out...

They are both solid rifles... And I'm not a bad shot by any stretch of the imagination. The thing is I kinda see the mattock at its best when coupled with an ammo power, which the caster classes lack without sacrificing their Bonus power.

Also, I feel like i get more out of the vindicator... it's WAAAY easier for me to land like 6 bursts, than 8 semiautomatic shots... And, if im not mistaken on Hardcore the vindicator is a 4/headshot on collectors :D

I just find it's more effective.

Anyone with me? :P

Since you said too...

"You are Crazy."

Game is about what you like, not what everyone else likes. If it works for you, use it, but personally the Mattock is way better for me, but then I like the Viper as well.

No doubt it works well, the Vindicator is a great weapon and something of a headshot machine.

I personally find the GPS best on my casters.

thats what makes the vindicator so freakin powerful... the ease at which it pulls off headshots...

Oh, and to the guy who suggested the avenger, i have teh locust to fill that purpose.... silly mongoose :P

I give the Mattock to squadmates... Vindicator for myself...

I like to spend the least time out of cover when using Assault Rifles... the Vindicator can land a triple headshot then I'm back in cover. I totally understand where you're coming from.

I feel that way too. Either I suck at aiming or the Mattock just isn't as useful with a 360 controller. Over all I think assault rifles are a little overrated, at least without adrenaline rush.

I plow through enemies with the Mattock using the keyboard and mouse on the PC.

The Mattock isn't an end-all-be-all weapon in the hands of a caster. If the feel of the Vindy feels & works better for you then good.

IMHO the Mattock is only really broken when given to a Soldier ... YMMV.

Not at all. The Vindicator is an excellent assault rifle... you can take it instead of the Mattock and be as effective. Unless you play in the PC and you can fire the 16 bullets with the Mattock in 2 seconds. Than it has an unfair advantage.

Well, it's still a good weapon. But to fire it as freakishly fast as you can on the PC, I'm almost shaking my controller and it throws off my aim. Doing the same thing with the Vindicator is trivial. Anyway the Mattock is mainly a problem balance-wise when there's time dilation in play.

Yep, I hit upon this myself a while ago. With my experience, I found the Vindi's three-round burst to be a lot more controllable and accurate than spamming the trigger on the Mattock, mainly because clicking as rapidly as it take to get the Mattock up to almighty heights of OPness tends to throw off the aim (not to mention burn the clip).

To be honest I generally feel the Mattock is OP on all non-slowdown classes because it does the job of other weapon types better than they can do them, but I found the Vindicator to cover the assault rifle role just as well.

That said, I do wish the Vindi functioned like it's description in the codex. Being able to fire one burst after the other with a delay in between does not equate to rapid fire. I personally think it should have functioned like the shuriken.

I have never been a big fan of ARs for caster classes -- perhaps this is because I'm on the Xbox or don't have skillz??? Depending on how you want to play wouldn't a Sniper Rifle or Shotgun be more effective than an AR seeing that it's not hard to get the Locust via DLC?? The non-AR choices just seem to compliment the weapon loadout a little better. YMMV.

Nope. People underestimate what you can achieve with a controller. Sadly Mass Effect doesn't have a particularly good controller mapping. I find that the biggest weakness. The fact that you don't have a mouse and keyboard doesn't bother me much at all.

Like I said before, I find the GPS the best bonus weapon for a caster because of how good it is at destroying shields and barriers, its range, and just its generally high damage. It also has a good ammo supply.

Sniper Rifles work too, but I'm not a big fan of the Viper (not because it's bad though).

Mattock's great on the Adept. I've actually stacked it with a Locust. Just cleared Garrus & Mordin's LMs in my best times ever (and on insanity too!).

I'll need to seriously sit down and try the Vindi sometime in this playthrough, if it's really as great as you guys are saying... I used to push the GPR, but that thing has turned out to be endlessly disappointing.

As a hardcore reward I would have hoped that the GPR would have been the 2nd best AR that shipped with ME2.

Maybe if there are insanity rewards that the reward weapon will perform as desired??

I'd rather use the Avenger over the GPR...

^No, GPR's better than the Avenger, come on... It's not soo terrible. They have mostly the same base stats, but the GPR has a better Shield/Barrier modifier and more accuracy at range. But it's true that as an achievement weapon, it's a bit too weak for the difficulty it's unlocked at.

With ME2 I'd have rather have had just the Avenger [that could be modded like N7 armor], the Vindy, and one more AR for flavor. ME3 looks better in these respects as far as I can tell.

Tried it last night and for me playing an Adept on a PC, the Vindi has nothing on the Mattock.
