I have the Steam version of the game, I have played it
before but today when I went to start the game on the launch screen the
"Play" button is grayed out.

Any ideas short of reinstalling?

A fair number of people seem to have fallen victim to Steam installing the update while the game is running and creating problems. The solution is here: http://social.biowar...0/index/7521859
