i have Dragon age Origins; Ultimate Edition, which i bought quite recently. It worked fine for several days and now all of a sudden has stopped working. Whenever i click to play it comes up with an error message saying

'The program can't start because NxCharacter.dll is missing from your computer'

it suggests reinstalling but after several attempts at reinstalling the games, the error message still appears everytime.
Please help!

I just bought the game over Steam and ran it once, only to discover that my DLCs hadn't been authorized, even though I punched in the key and all. Therefore, I followed the very first step of http://support.ea.co...gon age origins , which was to set the DAO Content Updater to Automatic, and then I restarted. Now I keep getting that error as well: 'The program can't start because NxCharacter.dll is missing from your computer'. I tried setting it back to Manual again, but to no avail. Running the launcher in non-administrator or administrator mode doesn't do any difference.

Just had this issue myself, my antivirus (Avast) is claiming that the file nxcharacter.dll is a trojan.

I've tried restoring the file, only to have avast kill it again before the game can start, so it might be that the only way is to shut down avast - but I'm wary considering what its telling me about the file.

I have Avast as well, but I'm wondering why it let me start up the game just fine before I restarted the computer. Besides, it hasn't alarmed me about any files while I've been installing and running this. How did you restore the file?

First off, to actually help diagnose a problem, we MUST see your complete system information. Check out the "READ FIRST" thread pinned to the forum.

Thanks,

What edition of the game you have (original release or Ultimate Edition)

[Ultimate Edition]

The format of your game media (retail disc, EA Digital Download, Steam, Impulse, etc.)

[Bought from www.play.com on disk]

What patch version you have (see below for help)

[Same patches as in the example, 1.04, 1.01, 1.03, 1.00]

Your hardware specs (see below for hints finding these). Please include :

[Intel i7-720QM (1.6ghz)
4GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD5870 1gb ddr5
Speakers High Definition Audio]

processor type and speed (example: Phenom II X4 3.4Ghz)

amount of system RAM (example: 4GB)

your display adapter type, its RAM, and its driver version (example: GTS 450 1GB, driver 271.41)

your sound adapter (example: VIA HD Audio)

Your specific version of Windows, including if it is 32 or 64-bit (example: Win 7 Home Premium, 64-bit)

[Windows 7 Home Edition]

If you have any third party mods installed

[No third party. I have enabled all the additional content packs that came with Ultimate]

Finally... a complete description of your problem, including what steps you've already taken to resolve it

[As said in the thread, on clicking play an error box comes up saying 'The program can't start beacuse NxCharacter.dll is mission from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem'. The game has worked absolutaly 100% great so far, no hiccups apart from 1 crash to desktop before. I only installed the game 2 days ago]

N.B I also have Avast

Yes sorry I editted that in too late for you to see I guess.

I'm using Avast! free edition I think. It was out of date according to the updater so i've just updated. I'm going to restart and see if they does anything now.
