Well you do like me moon, you post on 3 diffy forums in hope that someone will upload the hairy beast. I tried Unreal3 and Section8 nxcharacter as i had them on my hard drive. But the first failed, the second worked but with glitches. As i can't restore it, cause there is nothing in the chest, i wonder if the silent gaming mod of avast is responsible for that. I never had any message saying, careful we are gonna delete your face.

Someone with win7 x64 would kick bears ass. As a consolation prise here is section8 nxcharacter. http://hotfile.com/d...racter.dll.html

But i think we need the original nxcharacter, this one will make you go trough hills, stairs, slopes, lil pebbles, and so on.

I do use Avast and I'm getting the same issue, but apparently the missing file is not in my chest (which is empty.) Any way to get just this file without reinstalling the entire game?

I believe (though am not sure) that nxcharacter.dll is installed along with PhysX by the game's installation. The physX installer is located in the game disc under Software > PhysX_9.09.0408_SystemSoftware.exe

Well that doesn't help, as it is an older version of physx and doesn't install itself at all(i think). Using the latest physix driver go through the install process, but doesn't replace the nxcharacter.

I have been playing DA:O since it came out and haven't had any problems with antivirus. Today morning Avast! updated itself and now it tells that DA:O is a virus.

Obviously false alert.

Then your only solution may be to reinstall the game, uninstalling and rebooting first.

Patch sould be released to fix this. I'm pretty sure there are many people with Avast! Anti-Virus who don't know how to check this page..

Aetika's solution is spot on and well-described.

One note: This may be obvious, but if you have the game installed via Steam, you'll need to change the exclusion locations to reflect that. On my system, nxcharacter.dll is C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\bin_ship . So you need to tell Avast not to scan C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\bin_ship\\*

I found a POSSIBLE fix for players who own Dragon Age II.

Go to : C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age 2\\bin_ship , copy the nxcharacter.dll from DA II folder to :

C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship

Open the avast user interface and go to the maintenance section. There you will find the virus chest and all the files located it in it. Right click on a file and select the restore option.

Ok i see.. great so instead of downloading a file of 120Kb from someone working game. My only solution is to dl the whole thing, dlc and awakening and reinstall.

Thanks you good sir, you saved me 10 hours. You can have that galactic high five. Use it well, it power corrupts. And it works btw, no clipping with that one. If the link doesn't allow you to dl for some weird reasons, use the search option with nxcharacter. And select the 121kb file.

the same file but in friendly megaupload

The only way I think this issue is gonna get fixed is if enough people complain to Avast or Bioware/EA chew them out. I have been playing DA:O Unlimited for a few weeks now and with this new Avast update it basicly ruined it. The only way I have been able to get the game to play was disable the shields, paste the missing file, then play the game, part way into it I will restart the shield and be able to play with no problem.

I submitted the file to Avast's virus lab. But is possible to play if I disable Avast for 10 minutes and then launch the game.

EDIT: A new VPS is available, the false positive is fixed.

Humm i only had a problem to find the damn nxcharacter.dll for dao. Avast never put anything into the chest/or sneak delete once i had exclusion for the bin_ship file. I think it explained somewhere in the tread but try to do that.
Double click avast icon > press real time shield > file system shield > expert settings > exclusions > add C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\ (your install dir with bin_ship).
Then restore it if you have it in your chest, if not use the link from killzor55.

Also what would be good to change is the way avast deal with treats. In the same expert settings, under actions. In my setting, if the frist step failed for a virus, suspicious file or PUP the file was deleted , and i think i lost it that way. So now i put everything to ask.
