Avast deleted (good riddance) and DAO working fine, although Shale and my dragon armour have gone, and no way to get them back so it would seem. I can live without them but does anyone has some bright ideas about reclaiming downloadable content lost due to Avast ineptitude?

The DLC is linked to your BioWare account and should re-appear in your available content menu when you log in in-game for download and re-installation.

I don't blame you.  Millions of people are happy with Avast, but I was never one of them (despite being inferior in feature list, I prefered Avira to Avast at that time).  I tried Avast, didn't like it, had problems with it.  Went with AVG for years, though am now with MS Security Essentials.  The last of which seems fine with all my games.

We had this issue. I restored the file from quarantine and the game will boot up.  However my husband re-installed our game in trying to fix it, and now it's telling me our DLC is unauthorized, even though I've uninstalled and re-downloaded the affected DLC manually and from the in-game updater a couple of times.  So now we can't load any saves that were made with those DLC loaded unless we're logged out.  Edit- scratch that last part- it won't let us load old saves even when logged out.

Seriously. Annoying.

My entire data folder had was wiped out by Avast. I'm still in the middle of reinstalling the game. At least I saved my characters.

As per moderator on the Avast forums, "I can confirm false positive alert on this file with current VPS. [False Postive] is
internally fixed, new VPS will be distributed in few hours." - http://forum.avast.c...p?topic=79380.0

As gravedancer confirms, the new definitions file is now available from Avast and should correct the issue.

Thanks to all of you who filed False Positive reports back to the team at Avast.

Also, for those of you who are now encountering DLC authentication issues as a result of your attempt to address this false positive from Avast, a fix is being worked on in the upcoming patch. You are welcome to join the private beta to access the fix immediately and get you back up and running with your DLC asap. If interested, please message RaenImrahl and he'll get you hooked up.

Those who are simply missing their DLC can redownload it here on the site by going to the "Your registered game content" page under your profile menu.

Thanks,
Rob

As I have already mentioned before I had the problem with Avast. I switched to AVG but it turns out that nxcharacter.dll is identified as a Trojan horse by AVG as well. It does not seem to have gotten rid of it. AVG says that it is a false alert but I thought that I might as well report that AVG identifies it now.

At one time I used AVG, but I just had way too many problems with it. Since I normally isolate a gaming machine OFF of the Internet for game playing, I've not had any Avast updates on it in quite awhile, and will remember to deactivate it (Avast) before that machine goes back online (I only have DA:O and DA2 on a single PC now, and am likely to take DA2 off before DA:O).

AVG flagged a trojan horse in DA for me this morning as well. False right?
c:\\ProgramData\\EA Core\\cache\\EADM\\{myemail@yahoo.com}\\dragonage_na\\data\\apps_ship.rar
Result: Trajan horse Agent_r.AHH

Don't both Avast and AVG have public forums of their own in which this sort of thing gets thrashed out?

I have had exactly the same problem, but with AVG Anti-Virus. Am un-installing and reinstalling everything, and I hope it works....

Just confirming here too. I have DAO and AVG free that I just updated yesterday, and today it is reporting nxcharacter.dll as a Trojan, as well as a restore point that probably has that same file in it.

I just purchased DA:O Ultimate Edition via "Origin" and encountered this error. I uninstalled Avast and the game still did not work. So I uninstalled the game and re-downloaded it overnight. After installing it I tried running and got the same error I did the first time around, "Library Load Failure - NxCharacter.dll"

Since I don't have Avast (or AVG) installed and did a full redownload/reinstall of the game, am I looking at a different error? Thanks for any help given!

AVG detected nxcharacter in three locations in my Dragon Age install as a Trojan just now on my PC.  I don't see it in the Vault, I'm hoping it didn't just delete it.  Says that it's "agent_r.ahh"

If it did delete it completely, how do I restore it without doing a full reinstall of DA:O?
