Hi,

I am currently having input issues on ME 1.02 - I can't participate in any kind of fight without the KB and mouse stopping responding a little bit in.
I googled, and saw someone else had this issue on another gamer-site, but no reinstall or patch updates helped , and the user (and other forum responders) was as clueless as I am as on how to fix it (forgot to save the link, sorry)

I've had a little of the same problem on ME2 (but random, and fixable w a reload), which I played before grabbing 1 on sale, so I am aware it's not been tested (much) on 7, but does anyone know of a workaround?

I am currently playing on casual to at least progress the story and not die too much when the game glitches out on me. (which could be seen as a workaround too)

Specific example:

* Land on Feros
* Shoot -talk to Fai - Shoot some more.
* Get near tower.
* Take cover
* use gun you're trained or untrained on - pressing left mousebutton - and sometimes right for aiming
* Fire 4-5 shots or bursts
* Can't shoot anymore despite no heating and plenty of ammo left, despite clickety on mousebutton
* If you get hurt, the F key won't respond, despite having 4-5 medigels in inventory
* Trying to hit space for biotics and weapon change won't respond until after a few bashes
* R won't help either if a geth starts coming closer - despite having plenty to throw
* Watch FemShep die  from inflicted damage - if nothing else gets her, and Garrus and Wrex have been hit, I ususally can't shoot back at the drones. Or throw anything at them. Or use medigel, Or use my shield. Or use throw. (and no, it's not a cooldown issue)

This is why I set the game to casual - I'd like to play on normal or hard.

Mouse - Logitech MX Revolution, Kb Dell something or other - both work perfect in other games, the DA series included  - this is ME specific.

Operating System:
Windows XP or Vista

Processor:
Quadcore Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93GHz

Memory:
7.99 Gb

Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 1.5 gb Vr

Hard Drive Space:
700 Gigabytes free space

Sound Card:
Realtek onboard soundcard

All system drivers up to date, including nVidia's latest. Downgrading the drivers is not going to happen - the next-to-last nVidia driver fixed a rendering performance issue for me, and I don't want to lose that fix.

Happy for any input :-)

If you havent done so already, download the latest driver for the Realtek sound card from your motherboard manufacturers website, or from Realtek itself. The default one taht gets shipped with Win7 is known to be dodgy and cause performance problems,
Apart from that, I can only suggest getting rid of whatever 3rd party apps you have running in the background as a possible fix. Comcast Constant Guard has been shown to play havoc with key mappings. ASUS SmartDoctor and GamerOSD cause crashes, Kapersky AV stops the ME and ME2 from playing altogether.

Unfortunately, you are unwilling to try the other thing I would have suggested. Newer video drivers often incorporate tweaks that are designed for newer games, and those said tweaks can have a detrimental affect on older games such as ME and ME2.
The drivers that were released around the middle of last year were about the last batch that were known to be fully compatible with both versions of ME.

I work with 3D - I'm not sacrificing work-related rendering performance for gaming - I don't have many apps running in the bg when I play; usually it's just Spotify (a European music streaming service) and Norton, trillian, and mailwasher. Acrobat w the manual open on shortcuts.
I tried running it in safe mode as well w everything off - same issue.
Oh well, I'll just focus on the story being told, then -thx for the help :-)

Have you tried setting the core affinity to single? Since mass effect came out before multiple cores were popular sometimes they cause issues.

No. But I will try that right away - thank you :-)

Actually - I think it's not a KB but a caching issue - The reason for thinking that is that I do get laggy decryption screens as well, and sometimes the mako is even more of a ... lesser pleasure to drive than usual.

My workaround is basically to save often and to reload at the first sign of lag - and a reboot if it gets eal bad. Doing that seems to have helped enough for me to finish the game on Normal.

Now to figure out why ME2 is as unstable as ******* in a firefight on an imported femshep from ME1 ;-)

What helped me in the end, instead of d*cking around with driver settings and whatnots, is to set the game to compatibility mode w winXP SP2.

I also turned off vsync - that seemed to do the trick and I havent had a single issue with keyboard input since then
