im planning a rogue run next and while i want Isabela in my group i dont like having 2 of the same dps in one party, so ive thought of 2 builds and would like your idea on what would be best?

1) Archer - give her the Archery, Shadow and/or Assasin tree.
Would not use her Swashbuckler trees as its melee based and wouldnt use Varrics or Sebs as they dont fit her character. Use parts of Shadow and Assasin to replace the SB tree.

2) 2hander - give her 2hand, Assasin and Shadow.
Would use her SB tree and the parts of Assasin and Shadow to make her a ninja-style dps character...vanishing and appearing, and with a lovely elven/samurai greatsword mod i found.

Which do you guys thing would be most effective?

giving isabela assassin/shadow is basically having an npc hawke in your party, aka way too strong, so i'm not sure what you're looking for people to say. your game though, do what you want.

i'd give her the daggers, since she'll be able to double the 40% cap on lieutenants with them.

I don't want to sound like a dick, but its something you will have to experiment with.

I've had an archer isabela at one point, pretty much ran similar builds to varric besides using her trees to stay alive (Savvy setup so that she uses it when 2 enemies nearby, off when noone nearby). I didn't use "Across the Bow" since the damage would be too powerful.

2H swordsman would be odd to use, especially without the vanguard tree. On one hand you would get staggering alot from high critical chance (dex is damage since she is still a rogue, so no need for strength). She would get knocked back abit though unless another tank was drawing aggro.

Using the power sustainable with a 2H would be nice for getting AoE stunning, might be worth thinking about.

wouldnt the 2h attacks use STR? for damage and staggers?

no, the base attribute depends on class:
Rogues = dex, Warriors = str, Mages = mag
The base attribute is used in calculating base damage so 2H dmg for isabela would still be determined by her dex.

Staggers will have to come solely from sunder- which pretty much just gives a chance to stagger whenever you crit. So the only thing determining staggers in this case will be crit-chance.
However, the requirements for weapons will be still there so unless you plan on modding them out you'll probably have to pump a 2H isabela's str anyway.

The power sustainable sorta sucks. Fully upgraded it only gives 6%chance? The aoe chance would be offset by the slower attack speed of 2H weapons. With the newest patch supposedly stopping stacking on mutually exclusive sustains you would be sacrificing attack speed etc for a pretty terrible chance to stun.
If you were to upgrade power and use it in conjunction with group stuns (e.g. miasmic flask) you might be able to get a bit of extra damage-
However, the much lower base damage of 2H weapons compared to DW will probably mean that isabela will be like a fragile crapper version of fenris with slightly different abilities.
