I've already played through mass effect a few times, saved the council, let the DA die, and toyed with the fate of the Rachni, but generally speaking, I've always tried to be as successful as possible.

Not this time.

I'm wondering what things you're allowed to mess up in ME1.  Can you let Tali die? Can you abandon Liara to rot on Therum? are there any side-quests with horrible outcomes? The wiki, and all the guides I can find, haven't been much help to me, beccause, well, walkthroughs are there to help, not to help you screw things up. This is where, hopefully, you step in.

I know you can kill Wrex, never recruit Garrus, and screw over Kirrahe's team. What else can you do?

I doubt you can let Tali die since her information is vital to the story.

you can pick up Liara last before Ilos, though I read if you do that, the face off with Wrex won't happen on Virmire. She'll be delirious and pissed though.

You can get Gianna Parasini killed by telling Anoleis she's a cop after she reveals yourself to you.

Kill wrex, leave garus to c-sec obscurity, screw over tali and her pilgrimage, kill the rachni, kill the council, let the destiny ascencion be destroyed, do non of the allies quests, give info to cerberus, screw over the feros colony, too many decisions to make a play thru like that, my best advise is to not go with your gut.

Slaughter the colonists on Feros and kill Shiala.

Kill off Dr. Wayne and destroy the later investigation into Cerberus.

Force Bosker to release Nirali Bhatia's body, ruining the Alliance's anti-geth research (YMMV).

Murder Rana Thanoptis on Virmire.

Let Chairman Burns die in the hostage situation in the Farinata system.

I'm not sure what, if any of these transfer, but:

Force Major Kyle to come with you in the Biotic compound instead of letting him talk to his followers first. (results in your having to kill him and everyone else)

If Colonial, tell the sniper team to kill the suicidal girl.

If Renegade, peacefully resolve the negotiations with Lord Darrius

If Paragon, shoot the scientists at the research station (forget the system name, but it's paragon alternative to the lord Darrius assignment.)

Don't get the trinket from the consort.

Kill the guy Chellik is investigating

Not sure if any of the missions have a 'started but not completed' penalty flag, but I'd say start every one of the side quests, but make sure not to finish the ones without negative ends (especially BDtS, which honestly should start a 4 hour counter as soon as you approach it)

(honestly, going down this list, it sound like just to a pure renegade path without using the intimidate options)

Edit:

Thinking on it further, load up ME2, see what a default game's choices would have been, then do those :D

You can't possibly leave Liara behind altogether. You need her to complete the game.

... which will always make me sad.  After all, she is a bad guy... I mean, she's got tentacles and everyone knows that tentacles in sci-fi means evil.  Plus, she want's to jump you even after you kill her mother!  Frak, she'll even help you kill her.  How cold careless can one person be?!  Least she could have done was freeze up and hide her head in the sand like she did with with the Krogan at the top of the tower... but no, there she goes, shooting at her mother instead of Shep who she's only known for a few days.  j/k

You cannot leave her, but if you leave her till the end, she is left with a sense that all her research and all her knowledge is for nothing, making her utterly useless. As opposed to her actually helping you out.

This doesn't actually matter.  The UNC: Besieged Base mission's flags are messed up, so that regardless of the outcome, it imports as "you screwed up and killed them all".  The flags are messed up in ME1 itself, not in the transfer to ME2 (you can hear news in the elevators on the Citadel about how Sirta Foundation suffered a deadly attack by biotic extremists and a bloodbath ensued, even if nobody died).  So you might as well take the opportunity to get some free Renegade points.  You know, if you metagame like that.

I like how the game keeps pushing you towards recruiting Liara after every mission, until the last one where someone says (paraphrasing) "now all we have to do is pick up Liara!"

I did finally leave her until the very last minute, and her reaction was darned amusing. Also easier to fight that @#$% elevator krogan on a higher level.

I always take pleasure from slaughtering everyone at the biotic commune, as well as from letting the biotic extremists kill the important guy they kidnapped and then killing them. Disconnecting the guy on life support and killing his girlfriend is something I usually do, too.

Kill Toombs.

Kill Ventralis and the other guards on Noveria by going directly to the hot labs. Or kill only the rachni queen but leave the rachni in the hot labs alive.

Let Balak kill the hostages, then torture him for a while and send someone to pick him up instead of killing him.
