Due to the
cross-platform nature of our games expensive UIs (those that have lots
of doodads and whatcha-hoozits) are very taxing on consoles and often
limit how much other content we can put in to a scene at any one time
without suffering a hefty framerate loss. Now, you could try to suggest
that PC games should have a more advanced UI to support their superior
(/flex) systems but I'm not sure how much weight that would carry, to be
blunt.

on another thread this is waht a bioware employee posted!

so in essence you are telling people that the UI was dumbed down because the game demanded too much out of the consoles...

if i understand this correctly that would be the most lamest thing i have
ever heard as an excuse for the game...why should i pay for consoles
players and their hardware?

are you telling people that dragon
age was designed across the board to be multiplatform all along and that
you did not care how it would impact the pc users?

are you telling people that Bioware as to offer an inferrior roduct to pc gamers
to accomodate the console people and that the company is too lazy or
does not want to use resources to properly design a proper UI for pc
players?

if the lead team intentions was to make DA2 more of a
console game than a pc game then they should have went exclusive to the
consoles!

i respect the console players but by the same token i should receive the service level of my rig...

those who choose to get a console should live with their limitations and i as
a pc player who upgrades his machine should not pay for the physical
and software barriers that console impose. i chose to invest in a pc to
get a better gaming experience but i should not pay for an xbox player
machine in terms of quality!!!!!!!!!!

... Sigh...

I honestly feel bad for Bioware employees who dare to post on the forums. Every word, every phrase, every spelling error is parsed by a couple hundred people and reposted and complained about, etc. ad infinitum.

Frankly, if I'd probably just give the whole posting thing a miss if I were them. Seems like a lot of grief to go through.

They are adults they can handle it.Some people will go overboard but that is what mods are for.

Whether we're adults or not, civility is not a terrible burden to labour under. We're certainly not sitting at home, eating buckets of Ben and Jerry's while we cry ourselves to sleep because someone on the forums called us a mean name, but it does give one's argument significantly more weight if they can present it without resorting to insults or vitriol.

And this is a problem common across much of the forum, mind - not simply towards the developers. Though as a developer, I undoubtedly notice it most when it's directed our way. Still - it's not only possible but preferable to discuss things in a civil fashion.

As to why we post on these forums, well, for the most part the discourse -does- remain civil. Though to be completely fair, this seems to have been a bit of an off week. And while our every word can be dissected and analyzed to find fault or flaw (or, alternatively, to squeeze out every iota of information that might be gleaned), that's a danger with anyone who puts themselves in contact with the public. We understand and accept it as a possibility when we start posting on these forums.

With few exceptions I don't believe there is anyone going overboard.Yes some will push their point.Still it just seems mild to me.To be honest I think it would be tougher working at Mc Donalds having someone in your face grumbling about you shorting them a few fries.

At the risk of dragging this off-topic - I worked retail for four years. It can be very unpleasant, and folks can be tremendous jerks. However, the internet offers something that seems to enable some even worse antisocial behaviour in people - the veil of anonymity.

And once again, everyone is entitled to their opinion. They're also entitled to share it as they see fit - however, if you're telling someone they're a failure at their job and deserve to be fired, don't be surprised when your other opinions are coloured by your behaviour. We've got thick skins and it (personally) takes quite a lot to faze me, but that doesn't mean we aren't people who will occasionally see things through the lens of emotion.

I'm certainly not suggesting that people shouldn't share their opinions if they're negative, as I believe these forums should be about discussion regardless of what side of the fence you fall on, but I am saying that there needs to be an increase in the level of civility while sharing that opinion. If I see people rationally and politely discussing what they believe about a particular feature or aspect of the game, I'm far more likely to pay close attention than if I see people ganging up on each other for having differing opnions.

And we've run into full on platform wars.

So I think we're done here.

Locking.
