Personally I want to see Dragon Age 3 continue where Dragon Age Origins left off.  Then just pretend Dragon Age 2 never existed.

You will get flamed, you know. FIrst few threads will be rolling of eyes, gnashing of teeth, and "not another one of these threads..."

Me, I agree with you on one level (a very large level). But I do like the companions from DA2 (along with a few other things). But yeah, from DAO would be nice. Not going to happen I think, they want to have games in different parts of Thedas.

Neither. Start an entirely new story. If they mix and match at all, I'll just constantly be reminded of DA2 by those elements that were copied from it. And at this point the fan base is so divided that it's probably a good idea to just retcon as much as possible and start all over.

As much as loved Origins, I don't want the timeline to go backwards, plus Origins had a closed ending.

I do want to know what happens with the templar/mage conflict but if that means I have to play Hawke again, then it's a no to that to.

If they pick up the conflict with a new main character then I would be fine with that.

As much as I liked Hawke, I have very strong doubts we will play as Hawke again. Call me a pessimist, but even before I learned that most people don't share my opinion of Hawke I thought Hawke was gone for good with the way the ending of DA2 was done. (So I think we'll have a new protagonist.)

As for "forgetting DA2 existed", that would be a huge waste of story potential. You don't put the world on the brink of ruin and say "lol, just kidding" unless you want to lose all credibility. As much as people might hate DA2's story (even I think it could have been implemented better), it's brought conflict to Thedas, and conflict is the driving force in most good stories. Without the Blight, Ferelden would have been fake England. Without the Qunari and Meredith, Kirkwall would be that creepy vacation spot. You don't make your entire setting go to war and just retcon it all away just because people didn't like how you did it.

I doubt that Bioware is going to set up a mage/templar war and then just dump it to go back to the end of the Blight. The way I see DA3 going down is to have a new protagonist and set the game in Orlais, unfortunately, with the mage/templar conflict as the backdrop.

I want the Mage-Templar war to be done right. It has the potential to be amazing (like DA2 did) and Bioware needs to make it amazing, not have its potential just sit there unused.

They need to make it so that we can make it amazing. Our choices need to matter.

But in all seriousness:  I want them to merge the best of both.  But first I just want them to stop, look at the competition, listen to the needs and wants of fans ( not just here, I mean of gamers in general) and then re-evaluate their objectives and strategies so they can still make the money they want, while still making great games.  They can tell stories and can do it well.  Very, very well when they are in peak form.   i think they just need to step it up in the polish and details department.  Aesthetics. They need a game aesthetician. :D

purelly in regards to story
i wouldn't mind the story of da2 continuing but i feek a mage vs templar plot 3 games in a row would feel boring imo, hopefully they'll just use it as a back drop to a bigger event.

If the new game is in Orlai, I can see the potential for them to include everything from both games, expansion and dlcs. I can see conflicts going on everywhere. What better place to continue the mage/templar war than in Orlai even as a backdrop. There is a large warden organization there as well, I think second to the Anderfels.

If their new engine could pull it off, Hawke and The Warden both. I doubt this will happen, but I think alot of players would like to see this, I'm one of them. Too many people want to know what happened with Morrigan. Once again, myself included.

Thing is the events in Origins don't have any real impact (the Blight was stopped so other countries don't have anything to worry about beyond the odd refugee problem) outside Ferelden unless 3 focuses on OGB or the Architect doing something daft again.

Whatever my misgivings about elements of DA2, it does set-up a game world with a lot more potential for storytelling.

Rest edited out to remove spoilers!

DA2 had potential, but executed very badly imho. Act II with the qunari was the strongest point in the game, and the best done..

As long as they don't do any more fire breathing transformer statues and bat-sh*t insane Sith lords...

I'd say retcon everything in DA2 but the qunari, and focus the next game with them. Need a good Qunari war ;)

It's not like Dragon Age 2 added much to the plot...

A few years passed by, which could easily be assumed for any sequel, and another well known figure went missing. That's it. Nothing more of importance took place.

Dragon Age 2 was filler. I'm not sure why it concerns you as far as plot goes.

Yea that's what I meant by my "potential just sit there unused" bit. Act II was the best, hands down. Effort was put into that. Act 1 was good enough, but Act 3.... God..... I keep getting new ideas on how that could've been better.

Honestly, they should've just had that giant statue stay a giant statue trying to attack you with its weapons. It didn't need to go into spider mode and breathe fire. When you try too hard to be epic, you just make yourself look like an idiot.

As for that woman, I had no problem with her using that thing we found and crafting it to be that whatchamacallit, but the 70 foot jump and the unnecessary noises the whatchamacallit made shouldn't have been present. Notice I'm trying to avoid spoilers.

And I highly expect the Qunari will take advantage of what's going on in Thedas as a reason to invade, which may lead us into DA4.

Dragon Age 2 is my pick. I never could really get into Dragon Age Origins. I don't have any Wardens to play, so the Warden's story is not something I'd be interested in continuing. I do have several Hawkes though and I love the companions from DA2 and want to see them again.

Right, it only completely changed the face of the entire world in which the game is set. Yeah, totally inconsequential.

There are so many people that want to jump on the "DA2 SUCKS!" bandwagon that they can't even see what it actually did bring to the table. For the Maker's sake, yes, the game had problems, but in terms of overall game world effect, it was pretty damn huge. Of course, we can't discuss that because this post is in the "no spoilers" forum.

I want DA3 to continue on from both DAO and DA2. Based on some of the ham-fisted cameos in DA2, it will.

I think Act I was bad as well. It was nothing but fetch quests to make 50 gold.. it dragged on way to long, and is one of many reasons for me I cannot reply the damned game again.

They way the Mage vs Templars was done makes me very leery for it to be a main plot for the next game.. so many ways for it to go very, very wrong. They proved they could do the Qunari aspect very well, hence my enthusiasm for that particular aspect of DA2.

The Qunari invading could be a catalyst for the mage/templar to reconcile to combat the threat. You know the old saying.. 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend'

(sorry for the double post but..)

It was assumed it changed from cassandra, and not much info due to the horrible ending to DA2.

imho, it would of only affected Ferelden and Orlais. Not the rest of Thedas.

There's no need really to ignore DA 2's story set up for a sequel. The Mage-Templar conflict has the potential to be very interesting because it's a war that is pretty much guaranteed to have good and evil participants in both sides. But there are many ways to move beyond that story alone just for the next game. A Qunari invasion or a darkspawn resurgence or both happening and destabilizing Thedas even further would make the story potentially even more interesting because not every war is as straightforward as Side A vs Side B. A multifaceted conflict would be challenging to write but what effects such an enormous blow to the status quo in Thedas that would be would be interesting to observe.

Aren't the Qunari too tied up with the Tevinter?

TW2 started a good story on a world plunged into war and chaos with no clear side of good or evil. Just several degrees of ******.

I agree with having Origins Stories again.
My favorite thing about Origins was picking races, and with DA2 only allowing you to play as a human, it kind of disappointed me.
DA2 as a whole disappointed me, but im told that it was rushed, so i can understand.

That's just Seheron. Not Par Vollen or the rest of Qunari-ruled lands. And Fenris states that if the Qunari wanted to take over Tevinter they simply would, and that's the only reason the "stalemate" has lasted as long as it has.
