I received the Mass Effect 2 game from the sequals giveaway by EA, so this is a digital copy from EA.

After I hit play from the splash screen, it opens the program and immediately turns into a black screen with what sounds like the background music glitching.  I have to do a forced close through the Task Manager as it doesn't even recognize that ME2 is not responding.

Honestly I am not a computer savy person, so any help in lamen's terms I get would be appreciated.

Game Version: v1.02

Summary:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5 CPU         760  @ 2.80GHz
Clock Speed: 2789 MHz
Physical Memory: 7.99 GB
Display Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
VRAM: 1.00 GB
Sound Adapter: Speakers (High Definition Audio Device)
Driver Version: 6.1.7601.17514
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0  (Mar2009) or later

I believe all drivers are up to date.

Sorry. but you'll have to do better in regard to information about graphics. which is the most important part of a gaming PC.

Video Card Driver Version: Catalyst ?.? / Nforce ??.??
. . (please use the numbers, and dates, *not* the word "latest")
Video Card onboard RAM: ? ? ? MBs

I ended up running it in Windows XP sp3 compatibility mode and it is now working. Hopefully this will help any other lost souls :P

Thanks for your response Gorath Alpha.

I'm not sure where to look that stuff up to be honest. I got the game working by switching the compatibility mode (as per above post). Is there a downside to running it this way or should I hunt around for that information you are looking for?

Edit: So it seems that changing the compatibility doesn't matter - I simply started the game through the MassEffect2.exe instead of using the splash screen and it works fine.  That's really odd.

It's most likely "Origin -in game" feature causing it to crash on start up. At least when Origin was called "EA download manager", the "in game" function crashed the game so disabling it from Origin's settings should do it.
