OK everyone, I created some misunderstanding with my post, so let my clarify it.

The reason I think its ironic is:

1) OP started post - seemed semi-troll but could be serious.
2) Several people answered with well thought out reasons for why or why not this is the case. Jokes also ensued
3) Instead of the thread ending, OP mentions that he's Christian (like it has anything to do with it). This then continues the thread

Thats the irony. Not that he's spiritual or religious. Sorry if I offended anyone of greater spirituality then myself.

Its just that the OP's question has been answered.
1) Asari are fictional, and therefore can be/do anything the creator wishes them to do
2) They have babies, and need an organ to birth these babies
3) They need an organ to feed these babies
4) Would they look human? Female? Probably not. But they do. It's fiction.

Just because you don't take the topic seriously doesn't mean it's a troll.  Threads like these are much more likely to get closed due to the immaturity of the posters rather than trolling from the OP.
If you don't believe me, then just look up all the threads which were derailed by talk of Power Rangers (of all things Posted Image).

To answer the OP, Asari are fan service.  BioWare made their anatomy as vague as possible so fans would fantasize about it (which worked).  Scientifically speaking, it's not unreasonable for Asari to have the same (or at least similar) boobs, vagina, and erogenous zones as human females.  It's not unreasonable for Asari to utilize Mass Effect fields and certain "toys" for recreational sex.  As such, the Asari race doesn't have to be hermaphroditic.

Actually, I doubt BioWare truely intended for them to be thought of as such.  This is what happens when you let imaginations run wild.  Posted Image

I think that they have their azure, something anatomically in common with human females as LOTSB explained.

I'm ok with the idea with Asari having a vagina for birthing. From a reproductive stand point they would need one, or something similiar.

My problem is the whole sex thing. A human females vagina has pleasure receptors to, and correct me if I'm wrong, promote sexual intercourse and continue the cycle of reproduction. Biology designed it so there would be some motivation for have a male enter her.

However if there are no "male" asari and they reproduce semi-asexually there wouldn't be any reason for them to have the pleasure receptors. Nothing in their biology requires them to want to have something enter the birthing canal.

So unless the Embrace Eternity speech allows them to feel the pleasure their partner feels theres no way they would enjoy physical sex with another species.

Nah, they do christian side hugs. Theres no need for a vagina to do it.

I don't get why everyone seems to think that an alien race that has sex PSYCHICALLY, would need to give birth from a uterus. Let's just think about this for a moment. Let's remember why humans need to make babies down there, and then let's consider that Asari do not need to use that section of their body to mate. So why would it be a birthing canal?

So, from where do you propose their babies are born?  Better yet, why the need for them to cover up that portion of their bodies if it's not used for that purpose?

Man...this thread...makes my day...

Anyways, I'm going to play devils advocate here and fuel the fire.

It seams like Asari mostly differ from humans in the structure of thier mind/nervous system since they are all biotics. Given that they train thier nervous systems to do very specific things to train new biotic powers, and have sex mentally with creatures of different species, it wouldn't be unreasonable to say that they might be able to shift where there erodgenous zones are with thier mind...

Because this is a video game made for a nudity conscious culture?

And I don't really know of any species that press their foreheads together to make offsrping, but since their children are essentially clones with some jumbled DNA, I'd imagine they would just bud to create offspring.

If they possess no birth canal nor erogenous zones in the pelvic region, then would exposing that area be nudity at that point?

Even Liara mentions humans and asari being physically compatible in most ways.  While budding is a possibility, it just seems like too much of a physical deviation.

well first off an Asari may or may not have a vagina, the act of intercourse with an Asari is not a physical one, if you recall the dialogue that Shep had with Samara, "It's a gentle blending of nervous systems", so sex with an Asari is not a physical act, so two female Asari can produce a child (if you recall talking with a couple Asari females and they mention their female bond-mate as the mother of their children).  How they give birth is questionable, I would assume they have some type of birth canal and their breasts may be to feed the child, or maybe their breasts have nothing to do with a child.  No one has seen an Asari's breast so it might not even look the same as a human females, it might just have the same basic shape.

*edit* btw, there is nothing that says that sex is just about pleasure, for an Asari it may just be about reproduction and nothing more, maybe they don't get any pleasure from it at all.  Or they feel the stimulation within their nervous system, not the physical stimulation that humans feel.

Sure, it's possible that human females and asari have similar structures serving completely different functions. But likely?

Then what's Liara doing with Shepard?

For the last time, Asaris assume the most physically attractive form for a species. They don't "look" like they do to us for any other race, or even amongst themselves.

However, since they are monogendered, their evolution has only allowed one assumption per species, hence why they appear female to both men and women.

Octopuses are marine animals with tentacles and are the worlds best at camouflaging themselves. (youtube it, its insane)
Asari are based on them, except instead of camouflage, they go for sexouflage. They are unable to do it perfectly though, hence the tentacle heads.

That is why Asari have boobs, have five fingers and the rest of the stuff that makes them look human.

It is the only logical explanation.

Strongly disagree with this theory. The only evidence there is to support this is three dudes drinking in a bar.

Grayson in Retribution speculates that the Asari use some kind of telepathic manipulation for other species to find them attractive.

exactly. That is how they stay attractive to all species at the same time. (ie more than one race looking at them)

We know they have powerful telepathic powers and are attractive to all species. Why would Turians be attracted to the human form?

Garrus should be able to answer this.

Besides, Grayson has about as much credibility on this issue as the 3 dudes in the Illium bar.  I'm not saying you're wrong.  They know it as fact about as much as we do (as in they don't).

Doesn't explain the boobs or why all races find them attractive when only humans should feel remotely so.
