Which is exactly what he was trying to do. (force Hawke to move on). I have to say I do feel bad for him but that's probably because I share that personality type. And it is a s****y thing to do. (but of course he was trying to shove Hawke away it makes sense that he would be a bastard to accomplish that).

I don't blame you for not feeling sorry for him though. That was his goal after all. To get Hawke to move on without regret. That's why he doesn't bring it up to Hawke. (at least that's how I see it).

... And now I feel bad. Thanks a lot! :P

Given that he can end up having a relationship with Izzy if you move on (and not with her), it should be possible to coax Fenris and Izzy into a polyamorous triad.

Yes, I know that's my answer to everything - but for ONCE my proposed poly triad actually makes perfect freaking sense in both cannon and lore.

As for why people think that Fenris holds other love affairs against them, it's partially a personality/gameplay conflation issue. Since he's the LI who is most finicky about starting a relationship if Hawke has already been with someone else, it comes off that way... for everyone else, if you're "broken up" with your other LI, it's possible to start a relationship. While it's still possible to do that with Fenris, it takes more careful planning (based on the guides I've seen for 'sleep with everyone' playthroughs. I'm not sure whether or not that was intentional, but it's definitely a significant difference.

People tend not to blame Hawke for relationship-related thingummies like that because Hawke is supposed to be "them." If a relationship can't be continued, it's more immersion breaking, game breaking, and uncomfortable to default to assuming that it's not continuing because Hawke doesn't communicate properly that he wants it to continue, rather than assuming it's not continuing because the LI isn't interested. When Hawke does something wildly out-of-character, or is limited in their interactions with a character, the default assumption that allows us to continue identifying with him as our avatar is that he was limited in his opportunities by outside forces.

Ah so it's "the PC can do no wrong." syndrome. Fabulous.  But I see where you're coming from though I don't agree with it. To me Fenris being difficult to start with is the same reason he ends it with Hawke quickly he doesn't want to get in the way and get into something messy. Some people (like myself) just don't have the energy for relationship drama. And he has no real way of knowing if Hawke is in a regular relationship with the LI he/she's sleeping with. I never could get angry at him for that. (not to mention even if Hawke's broken up with the other LI does he really want to take the risk that Hawke'll do the same to him?) It's not like Hawke and the LI break up on equal terms (except with Izzy).

I don't see the point in blaming the character for the developers not placing a choice in (when you can't even bring said choice up). The developers fumbled. It's a game. There's always gonna be things the developers don't take into account .It's a limitation of the medium.
