Well I plan to do some ME2 shopping. Which pack is best? Also are the Appearence pack REALLY worth it? I am about to start my 5 and 6th playthroughs and I think I need to change. I'm getting the Arrival surely though..Image IPB

So, just my thoughts:

Equalizer: I hate helmets and other face-obscuring things, and generally don't fiddle with the armor much. If you like the look of them, go for it.

Appearance packs are purely cosmetic. Check out some screenshots. Nice if you want Garrus to have non-wrecked armor.

Firepower gets you actual gameplay affecting stuff. The pistol-with-laser-sight is cool and powerful, but fires slowly. Never used the shotgun much, someone else can talk about that. The battle rifle is kind of overpowered in that it's semi-auto as fast as you can click, and hits hard. It's nice to have the option for huge damage, but I found I left it behind often because it just felt a little cheesy. (I also don't play on super-hard difficulties; if you do, it might be more balanced)

The story dlc ones are the best, imho. Shadow Broker, Overlord, and I liked Arrival too despite the large amount of whining about it.

Already got all story DLCs, Equalzer out then.D'you know anything about the Aegis pack? It looks pretty sweet and it comes with powerful and protective armour and the Incisor Sniper Rifle. I'm in between Firepower and Aegis...Image IPB

Firepower clearly has the most value for your money with 3 new weapons. You get the Geth Plasma Shotgun, the Mattock and the Phalanx. The two first are quite powerful, and the Mattock is just plain overpowered if you use it with Adrenaline Rush. My favorite is the GPS, and I use that on my casters a lot.

The armor from Aegis is nice, but you won't really feel the difference simply because armor boosts are quite small. I think it's the best armor for combat classes, but not by much. The Incisor is pretty bad actually so so that's not much of a bonus.

So I recommend the Firepower Pack unless you are very concerned about game balance.

You forgot to mention that the Incisor is abeast for every SR wielding squadmate. That rifle has considerably less damage penalty (and I mean reaallly considerable less), squadmates don't use ammo so the clip takue-up and small reserves is of no concern and as with all weapons, squadmates are pretty accurate and totally lack the effects of recoil.

Zaeed, Thane and Garrus with the Incisor are just insane with the amount of damage they can wreak upon the hapless mooks. With Legion it is a matter of preference, he gets the Widow afterall if you chose to and is also quite effective with that.

If you want primarily your squadmates packing a bit more punch over longer distance, take the Aegis Pack, if you enjoy weapons yourself better, get the Firepower Pack and your SG squadmates gain the more precise GPS. Though the Firepower Pack really upsets the "balance" of guns in this game.

Did I forget it, or did I ignore it? :)

It's so much more fun having a good weapon for yourself. Besides, the Mattock and GPS are also very good for squadmates. The GPS in particular makes your shotgun squadmates a whole lot better.

Well, ... having grown into a RPG fan (especially DAO), I put much emphasis on equipping my followers as such they can be of more use than mere meatshields or slight distractions that once in a while do something helpful. Followers of mine are garaunteed to get top-notch equipment so they can serve me better.

Needlessly to say, of course, the best stuff is always mine Image IPB

In the end, I think it is a preference decision on how you like to play. If you are playing aggressively yourself, say like a Vanguard where you have little (or just less) time to optimize your squad as opposed to optimize your own killing spree whilst staying alive, the Incisor on squadmates is the better decision. Zaeed and Thane with Squad-Cryo Ammo+Incisor+50% Damage Bonus and the Incisor due to their passives make any battlefield into a frozen hellhole, bar none.

On the other hand, if your are playing more medium or long range combat strategies with squadmates up front to keep pesky mooks at bay, the superiour weaponry both benefits yourself and possibly your squadmate better (GPS as a squadshotgun makes them much more reliable damage-dealers).

I was just looking at what you get in terms of fun as well. 3 new weapons FEELS like a lot more content than one new weapon you don't use and a set of armor where you can't even feel the difference over the old stuff.

And, like I pointed out before, where the Incisor improves sniper rifle-using squadmates, the GPS does the same thing for the ones that use shotguns. I'm not sure how much of a difference the Mattock makes for squadmates, but I always thought that was pretty good as well. So in that respect, it's not like the Aegis Pack is actually better.

Just get both of 'em and me and termokanden don't need to talk aside each other any longer. Do it for harmony!

I can't help it. I love debating about silly details :)

Seriously though, they're cheap. Both are worth it if you really like the game. The alternate appearance packs and Genesis though... Not so much.

Outside of story dlc the aegis and Firepower packs are the best. I use part or all on every game I play now, so get both if you can. I think the equalizer will be the most noticeable on most plays but it is really close.

edited to fix name derp moment.

Firepower for the Phalanx and Mattock.
Personally I don't equip Shep with the Mattock since I'm a Vindicator fan, but the Phalanx is effectively a hand-held sniper rifle. Always causes a hit-reaction, and does over 100 damage per hit (before upgrades)... Christina Norman made a comment on how she loves to 'dismantle' LOKI mechs with it... it's damn good at blowing legs off I tell you.
...oh, also, the Geth Plasma Shotgun finally provides the answer to teammates who try firing shotguns from a mile away. It's also good for certain playstyles where you'd want a long-range shotgun.

Alternatively, the Aegis pack gives some armor pieces that actually DO SOMETHING.
Still a small effect even combined but better than anything else. However, the helmet is not good if you want to see Shep's face, and the torso looks awkward on femShep.
Meanwhile, the Incisor sniper rifle is a piece of awesome... but for ammo it's a piece of crap.
You shoot 3 rounds per shot, and each clip pickup restores ~4 rounds... basically once you run out of ammo on that thing it'll be a long time before you can count on using it again.
In your squadmates' hands, however, it's absolutely perfect... I think it dodges certain reductions in damage that squadmates normally incur.

Equaliser is nothing special.

I recommend the firepower pack to pretty much everyone I know who has ME2. mattock, Phalanx and GPS are just awesome.

I admit I only skimmed the thread, so my apologies if someone already mentioned it, but the GPS is a great defense stipper for Adepts/Engineers. This is enhanced by the fact that it can be used at medium range very effectively, and even to some effect at long range.

Aegis and Firepower pack are great but wouldn't buy Equilizer pack since Kestrel armor pack is much better.
