Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if it is possible to copy an upgrade from one tree to another?

Specifically, I want to add the spirit healer group heal upgrades to Anders' aid allies talent, and the revival upgrades to Anders' regroup. And I'd also like to add the +10 constitution and the injuries immune talents as a seperate path.

It never made sense to me that a spirit healer is a better healer than Anders. I could just change the values of Anders' spells to match the upgraded spirit healer spells, but that feels like its a bit unbalanced and overpowered. Having to apply the upgrades would fix that, since you have to sacrifice other spells to buy the upgrades.

Or can we make new upgrades? I seem to remember reading we can't make new spells at all.

If none of this is possible, I'll keep using the Anders as a Spirit Healer mod, but that means we can't activate vengeance, which is (plotwise not playwise) a problem, and he't not got any uniques. Also, no friendshi0p or rivalry bonuses

Regarding Second Chance and Vitality, yes - you can add those to the Vengeance tree. You can add any ability to any tree so long as you identify either the tree's root as a prerequisite, or another ability in the tree as a prerequisite. That's what "anchors" the ability to the tree. Prereqs are defined by lines 11 through 14.

As far as adding upgrades go, you can tack them on using the same method as above. As to whether or not they'll actually do anything... I'm not sure, as I haven't tried. You'll also need to define upgrades for Aid Allies and Regroup using line 23.

Edit: Forgot to mention that lines 21 and 22 control an icon's X and Y position in the tree, respectively. You can refer to other trees to get a general idea of what variables you need to use to achieve the result you desire.

Brilliant! Thanks muchly. Just one question - if I change the prereqs for vitality / second chance to put them on vengeance, won't they be removed from the spirit healer tree? Or can you copy the original, change the prereqs, and have that second version seperate? (I'm very very new at modding, so sorry for stupid questions)

Try this: go ahead and copy the original Vitality / Second chance and make your edits. Then, reassign a new ability ID to each (line 1). The last ability in Vengeance is 311090, so maybe try 311100 and 311110.

Not sure if that will work, that's just what I would try if I were futzing with it.

Edit: As far as I know, the label (line 2) is simply a label, so you can rename it as you see fit to help with organization.

Also, your questions are not stupid. Modding DA2 is literally an exercise of wandering around in the dark. Even the people who started modding on day one are still learning new things : )

hmmn, I've tried adding in lines, but that seems to remove all abilities completely when i go into the game - everyone's abilities screen is blank - any idea what (no doubt idiotic) thing I'm doing wrong?

I'm not sure. Make sure you're playing with a clean .gda file that only contains the items you're modifying, just for sanity's sake. Also check out a mod like this one that does what you're trying to do; maybe you can reverse engineer it and get a better idea of the best practices for tacking on new upgrades.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I honestly haven't tried adding new upgrades. I did similar things with Vengeance, but actually just turned Panacea into a new talent/upgrade rather than introducing a new ability entirely. Hopefully that link will be helpful!

Edit: Just noticed that the link I noted also has range/radius upgrades. These should be mostly listed by "persistent_x.gda" files that don't really pertain to what you're doing, so you can disregard those for now : )

Thanks, I think I'm going to focus on getting the vitality and second chance into the tree, before I even look at upgrades. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks for the help!
