As of right now, lat thing I heard is they're still working on it to make sure its actually how they want it to work. They may consider dropping it if it doesn't work.

But again this is what I heard and shouldn't be taken as pure truth until its confirmed by Bioware.

Looting in Mass Effect actually makes no sense.

I really want to mod my guns like in ME1
I loved having my sniper with high explosive rounds + 2 scram rails it was basically a portable Mako cannon.

'T is no hack&slash.
But what you meant with looting, is that *some* enemies may or may not drop their guns afterwards. But even that is not sure yet.

There is no inventory, so I doubt there will be loot.

Yeah...I know...

Because it doesn't, by golly.

ME2 had no loot or inventory.

Since I'm betting there's no inventory in ME3, guess what that means.

Two things-

A. No loot
B. Muenster Cheese

The latter makes me happy, the former makes me sadfaced with man tears.

The closest we're getting to loot it probably picking up enemy weapons and using them similar to the Call of Duty's in the World.

Weapon modding has already been confirmed by a developer, it's in the confirmed features thread. It seems most (if not all) weapons have 3 parts that can be swapped for another to customize your weapons. It hasn't been revealed yet how to obtain these parts, they might be looted of enemies (unrealistic but fits the general rpg idea) or bought from people (better option imo)

Edit: As for inventory, I suppose if you do have these weapon mods/parts Shepard will have to store them somewhere. An inventory or some sort would be useful.

Why is is unrealistic? killing an enemy and picking its armor/ammo/weapons what you do even in other non rpg shooters

Of course it does..... don't you want to spend hours killing husks so you can get enough techno zombie leather to craft a pair of  +12 to INT shoes?

Can you carry around 60 suits of armor?

Can you take one off and put another on instantaneously in the middle of a firefight?

No and no.

It just strikes me as unrealistic if you're in a big battle with tons of mutated/reaperized monsters, probably with built in weapons, rather than just carrying the same weapons you are and then killing them and picking up the weapon mods. For humanoid enemies using weapons it wouldn't be a problem naturally.

Weapon and armour customization is in, and from what the devs have been saying it looks like it'll be more in-depth than either ME1 or ME2. Apparently we'll also get all our effects from ME2, which I assume means our weapons and armour, so with new guns as well I guess we'll have a fair range of things to choose from in the inventory.

If by loot you mean picking up loads of guns after every fight and picking through every locker then don't know, and I kind of hope not as that makes you feel less of a galactic hero and more of petty criminal.

Also, this ^

The locker system in ME2 made much more sense from a lore and role-playing perspective. It also made the game a little more interesting, as you had to think about which guns you'd need - although I admit for me it simply boiled down to which heavy weapon do I want and almost always choosing the grenade launcher because it looked the least ridiculous on Shepard's back.

Yes, I believe there will be more loot and an inventory, but the inventory won't be as big as ME1's.

Kind of like a hybrid of ME1 and ME2....

There is no inventory system in ME3 only that you can collect attachments for your weapons and collect weapons (not to the extent ME1 was)

Which I am glad it was ridiculous having to sell everything after every mission because of collecting so much.

The only reason people want to have equipment to purchase and sell is to customise your equip by large levels. Which mass effect 2 solved that with having customisable armour which is a lot better than the ME1 system for one you can say I like the colour but not the armour parts. Whereas in ME2 you can choose what you have making shepherd more unique.

Me personally I think we do not care actually on collecting armour we just want choice on how our equipment is like which ME2 had quite well (but not the weapons) and in ME3 will be more than satisfying that need.

I agree. Some of the greatest heroes in RPG history are nothing more than thieves and graverobbers.Posted Image
Edit: I prefer to buy equipment, rather than hacking lockers etc.

I'm glad if there's no inventory in ME3. Less of a hassle that way. Weapon mods can probably be applied to the weapons in the weapon lockers, and we can probably just scan stuff we find to make them later on the ship.

Simple and easy.

Looting in any RPG doesn't really make sense but its a video game so it dont matter :P

I mean i agree carrying around 150 suits of armor and being able to switch into different suits of armor WHILE in battle is kinda silly. "Hey guys stop shooting me for a second i gotta change meh clothes!" But its a classis rpg thing but im pretty sure they are sticking to ME2 style

This also bothers me in rpgs. I mean you can walk into someones's house say in a nice suburb walk to their pantry  lock pick the door (cant let them kids get fat off them HOHO's!) and find like 10 guns and a suit of armor.

Yeah, looting is pretty silly. Just imagine a news report in Mass Effect:

'Today, Commander Shepard, hero of the Battle of the Citadel, Liberater of Eden Prime, (formally) the first human Spectre, back from the dead, was arrested for breaking into a store and attempting to steal 2 pistols and a helmet.'

While I get it is a gameplay mechanic, it just doesn't make sense in the ME universe.

I also got put off it a bit my Oblivion - every time you so much as glance at somones pockets and hear the guards yelling 'Stop! Thief!'. Drove me insane.

Well, from a lore perspective, don't they have 3D printing or something in the ME universe? I don't pay that much attention to the tech in the lore, but it seems to me that all the looting you'd want to do is copying schematics to reproduce the final products on the Normandy.
