I have high hopes for this. ME2 wasn't a port. ME3 I am pretty sure won't be either.

I thought that the pc and xbox versions of ME2 were developed in tandem. ME1 was obviously a port considering the pc version's later release however. Either way ME2 runs beautifully on my pc(aside from having to open task manager and toggling cpu affinity every time I start the game because of that blasted dual-core load time bug). I expect to have similar performance from ME3.

I initially had ME2 on the xbox b/c that's where my ME1 saves were. Only reason I had ME1 on the xbox was because I bought it before the pc version was released.

I picked up both ME1 and ME2 on a steam sale. Considering that adept is my main class, I can't go back to the xbox version, no matter how much I want to. It's not possible to play the caster classes without constantly pausing on xbox due to the limit of 3 hotkeys. I never have to pause on the pc version.

In regards to the general platform flames? Steam > xbox imo. Nearly the same functionality, streamlining and ease of use as Xbox Live, but across your entire PC library including legacy games. Steam doesn't report it's sales figures, but it's a safe bet that it is a huge percentage of pc sales. So the arguments that PC gaming is dying aren't taking that into account.

I have no worries for ME 3 for PC. ME 2 on PC was better then consoles imo most of Biowares games are. The use of powers and tactics is more smooth and graphics are much better. Cant wait for ME 3  :D

If Mass Effect, any of them, is a console port, it's a pretty damn good one. Look at Transformers: War for Cybertron. The PC version was such a console port that it wasn't even funny (and trust me, I am NOT laughing about it). As long as ME3 plays as well as the second, I'll be happy.

I thought that Mass Effect 2 played great on the PC. The first one wasn't as good though. Seeing as the videos for the new one seem similar to Mass Effect 2 I am sure they will play similar.

I thought ME2 on the PC was much better than ME1. I have had no problems with PC ME2, and with the modding community, it looks even better. Really good HD character updates are being made all of the time for use with Texmod, and the game looks amazing. PC's can remove the load screens, and do all kinds of things xbox and PS3 users can never do. I have a PS3 I use for Blu-ray playing and have basically no games for it. I d/l the ME2 demo for it, and how people play like that and say it's awesome is beyond me. If they would just release a hi-res pack for ME3 PC like DA2 did for PC it would be great.

The only advantages I see for consoles is price and simplicity. For the price a xbox or PS3 is not bad for what you get. You never have to open it up and fiddle with it (the fun of building your own PC if you do). But, if you have the money, a good gaming rig will blow them away. You can get a PC rig to blow away a console for under $500 now.

Bioware said they are more comfortable with the game engine now, so I would expect ME3 to be even better on the PC.

Low res textures, forced to watch loading screens even if things have loaded ages ago and dated DX9. That is going to happen. It already happened in ME2. Hated the lack of crouching. Controls were too dumbed down for PC.

The loading thing on PC was actually just something of an oversight... Me2 uses Bink video files for their recorded videos (cinematics... and loading screens, are in Bink video format)... unfortunately some lazy programmer never bothered to included a simple IF statement to cause the video sequence to end and resume the game if the level has already been loaded... so instead we have to watch the full length of the loading Bink video file before we see the level (this of course is easily remedied on PC by replacing the loading videos with a 1 second long replacement video file instead).

I've actually very good faith in Bioware when it comes to the PC version. They've handled the PC version of KotOR, Mass Effect(I know it was made by Demiurge but still), and Mass Effect 2 excellent. Providing the PC version with PC specific menus, UI, PC tailored mini-games, better graphics, and PC specific graphics options. Therefore based on Bioware's history I don't think the PC version won't be treated equally along with the rest. Bioware knows how to make a PC game feel like a PC game.

Not to mention load times, I have the xbox and PC versions and there is a massive difference between them. I've seen console ports that were still telling you to push XBox buttons, those were shocking.

Are they gonna release a high-res texture pack for PC like with DA2?

more importanty... anything about choosing weapons using the F buttons?
I was very annoyed by the lack of weapon shorcuts in ME2. Kind of a step down from ME1.

I hope so. The $10 lower cost on the PC version is gone, I hope we get something for a higher price. The $10 isn't going to Sony or MS for the consol fee.

A high-res texture pack would be great.

My earlier post was before I heard of the possibility of ME3 PC being origins exclusive however. I have to change my view to "no steam, no sale". I'll go back to the console version before I put origins on my pc. I have close to 100 games on my steam library. I'm not adding another game manager.

I'd gladly wait a few months after the console release for an optimal PC port release (just like with KotOR, JE, ME).

No doubleclicks, menu hotkeys and the use of F1-F4 for weapons is terrible given how well ME1 was ported.

ME1 didn't even adjust the target assist mechanism. You could miss something by quite a way and still hit the target. I'm not saying ME2 was a perfect port, as not having hotkeys for each weapon was an odd oversight, but ME2 felt much more like the PC title than ME1. Those other things you listed are really unimportant.

I don't have concerns about ME3. They won't change that much from ME2 and the controls were fine, apart from some minor issues. Would be nice f the reintroduced hotkeys for menus, mouse wheel support in menus and the right mouse button for the "go back" option (I think ME1 had all that).
Other than that, It'll be just fine.

I also forgot galaxy map navigation in my list. In ME1 you could zoom out by pressing right click. Now you have to move your mouse all the way to the back button and click it. I know I sound incredibly lazy but you have to click everything in this game after years of UI innovation. If I have shortcuts in KotOR, Dragon Age and ME1, why not in ME2?

I know it makes me sound like a whiny child, but this drove me insane. Why the hell do I have to move my mouse to the stupid back button every... single... time.... How can you forget to put right click as zoom out. Ridiculous.

Same here. There better not be online-only DRM or I burn with the fury of a thousand suns.

Edit: Sorry, online-always is what I mean. The burning resumes.

If DA2 can do it, I'm sure it can be done for ME3. People have already made high res packs for ME2, all you need is TEXMOD, they look much better. The ME2 port was pretty good I thought. I have origins since I already had the EA Store. Steam and Origin, it's all DRM, they both do the same thing. Origin already put a N7 DDE place holder in my game section after I bought it. It'll be interesting to see what special items they reserve only for Origin in March.

While we're at it and wishing for things, how about some DX11 too? :D
