Is it cheating if you have no intention of getting back together with them?
I could understand the hurt of finding out someone you cared about being with an enemy organization but to have a second chance of being with a loved one you know died is too precious to waste on petty anger just because they didn't greet you the way they should. Life is never going to act the way it should; That shouldn't stop you from rejecting it completely and judging it as a betrayal.
Oooookaaaay, apparently I've not gotten over Kaiden calling Shepard a traitor. Would NOT be surprised with Kaiden or Ashley being portrayed in a more heroic light in ME3 just to guilt-trip players who were involved with them.

This makes me think of the Natalie Portman rap... "My dick is scared of you!"

The funny thing is, after V for Vendetta, I can totally see Natalie Portman as portraying Jack. Image IPB

And if you watch Natalie's Rap, you could see she has enough attitude to match, hah. :D

I will say that I don't really think I can call it cheating, either. More like moving on or not moving on. They make it pretty clear that, as far as they're concerned, it's over at that time. Additionally, even the letter that Ashley or Kaidan sends is pretty clear: "That time we blah blah blah meant a lot to me blah blah" stuff kind of implied that there wasn't a lot AFTER that either. I get the impression that the relationship hadn't gotten far past that point - that they hadn't had a chance to be a couple.

nah engineering deck Jack was a casual encounter. I believe Ash and Shepard are on a break

Its too easy to dedicate a loyal playthrough, I think it builds an adds more insight into Ash and Shepard's relationship just as much as staying loyal.

Plus its been a year and Ash and Shepard only exchanged one e-mail

I agree... with both points.

Natalie's Rap is one of my favorite Lonely Island songs.

AND it seems like the ME1 LI is "officially" breaking it off in ME2, so why not pursue something new if you feel moved to?

I do not concider it cheating just because the devs decided that we should only have one kiss with the LI and then they talk to us like normal. If there was an option of breaking it off with them than I would have taken it. I would rather not be called a cheater simply because I found someone better and I wasn't able to break up with the previous one first (Miranda > Liara)

thane> kaidan
that's all i have to say
but if there'd been an option to punch him in the face and break it off... i would've chosen that

It's not cheating if it's consensual! Wait...

In all honesty, I don't consider it cheating to pursue another romance in ME2. I think what BioWare meant by "staying loyal to your ME1 romance" they meant literally staying with that romance. It never implied betrayal.

Nah. It was a tough choice for my femshep (Jacob is awesome) but I remained loyal to Kaidan. Both great guys so hard to pick.

On maleshep, I stayed loyal to Ash. Miranda seems treacherous and I'm not into aliens

Thanks, it's nice to hear the support.
Too much was left unfinished in ME2 so I am hoping that Shepard can reconcile with Ashley or Kaiden at least

No. I stayed loyal to Kaidan because I actually liked his personality and his looks.

There was no one I really fancied in ME2. I felt they could have made a much nicer looking Jacob for a start, but even that wouldn't have made me able to stomach his, and FemShep's utterly cringe-worthy poor dialogues! Ugh! /shudders.

Poor Thane was doomed so I didn't feel drawn to him. Garrus, much though I love him as a Bro, is just too damned boney!

So in Mass Effect 2, I hooked up with Miranda, because I straight up thought Ashley ditched my ass on Horizon. So am I still going to be punished if have no intentions of getting back with Ashley, or am I going to have to fire up ME1 and not mess around with anyone to not get kicked in the nuts in ME3.

Has there been any clarification on whether or not everyone who chose someone else is gonna be punished, because I sure do not remember hitting the "cheat on Ashley" button during my time with ME2. But I still have a bad feeling I am going to be punished.

Any help anyone, cause I want to stick with Miranda, without any complications.

Let's put this matter into perspective:

Femshep had an unsatisfying one-night stand with a guy after: 1) kissing her military career goodbye by committing the capital crime of mutiny and stealing a military vehicle to go into a restricted area; and 2) heavily drinking.  I don't recall there being a marriage proposal or even a "Hey, I'll call you sometime!" being involved.

Femshep dies. The one-night-stand-guy begins to date after Femshep's death.

Call me old-fashioned, but in order for someone to be "cheating," that person has to be engaged or married to the cheat-ee.  Otherwise, it's just considered having a pretty damn good social life.

I don't know why it keeps getting called cheating to have a new LI in ME2, after:
a) Kaidan/Ash dump Shep on Horizon
B) Shepard and LIs all talk about moving on, because Shep has been *dead* for two years.
c) It's a *suicide* mission. 'Thinking of the future of you relationship' when you're about to walk into almost certain death seems both pointless and a little selfish on Shep's part. "Oh, hi Kaidan/Ash/Liara, guess what, I am alive and with a terrorist group. But I still love you, so please drop your current life so you can mourn me if I die on a suicide mission".

Makes no sense.

On the counsel version of the games, my FemShep stayed true to Liara (a little flirting and dinner with Kelly not withstanding >.>. Nothing happened! Honest! It was just dinner! >.>)

Now that I have them on PC, I'm not sure how things will play out. I'm not fond of any of the options in 2 for femsheps. Except maybe Garrus.
