I guess the moral of the story is, everybody has a different game experience. The Witcher 2 has pop-ups which show you all of the important controls, and references to the journal where you can find out more (like what each sign does). The journal also contains a massive amount of information (as you collect it) about the world, peoples in it, politics, the characters, various enemies, events, etc.

This is more or less the exact same setup as DA:O, DA2, ME1, and ME2. You get a few quick pop-ups at the very start of the game which tell you just enough to get you going, then you need to start reading about the abilities/stats to figure out which ones to use/invest in later on. If you want to read about the world, you look in the codex - which contains massive amounts of information.

I'm not seeing the difference...

I like DAII better than The Witcher or its sequel.

Mainly because I cannot play The Witcher or its sequel, so realistically I cannot have the opinion to care. That said, The Witcher seems too inflexible for my tastes anyway. Rolling a character is an extremely important part of RPGs to me.

While I hate the 'it's killing immersion' line as much as the next designer, because it's really just a translation of 'I don't like it',

I couldn't agree more, and beleive me, i've tried. The TES community has made me hate the i-word so much i'd like to kill it with fire while nuking it from orbit where i am eating it's children.

That seems to be the only excuse people can ever come up with when a game does something they don't like. And Phile I agree. I loved DA:O but DAII was not the sequel I wanted. The Witcher 2 was. CDProjekt didn't try to alienate their core fanbase and instead did the opposite and released a great game which so far has been confirmed sold 400k in the first week. Mind you this is a niche game on PC so that speaks volumes.

That's how I felt about TW2 vs DA2. They didn't try for a larger, shiney new crowd. Instead, they made a game for their old fans, and will get new fans by word of mouth (I have been chatting Witcher 2 up with my gaming friends, including console buddies).

400k first week? Hot damn! Go CDPR!

You mean the game that has digital lady parts and the phrase "lesbomancy"? Yes, it is incredily more mature than Dragon Age 2.

Just play witcher 2 and I rest my case.

I can understand everything, but saying Dragon age 2 IS BETTER then witcher 2..is madness.

Dragon age origins, yea way better.agree. Orirings is on my top 5 of favourite games of all time.

I did play TW2. That's why I can compare it.

You need to stop making assumptions about people if you want to have any sort of civil discourse.

So you are saying that there can be no jokes in game. It should be serious as hell. That lesbomancy was a JOKE. You think that characters must be stupid, political proper, flat and hollow like in DA series right ? In your fu** up world they probably dont tell any jokes. They must be good, never say bad word like "fu**" because soldiers dont do that right ?. Bad characters must destroy the world with no reason and no plan what they do after that. They are just bad and will be killed.
Sorry but when I see BW games - i see something for childrens. I still dont know why this game is +18. Remove dam blood and exploding bodies it can be +13. Prince on white horse saving the princess and world along with evil dark prince on black horse.
When i see CDPR games - i see world full of people that are good, evil, gray etc. They are no saint yet they have their own cause. Iorveth is best example. Is it good or bad character ? Or Roche. It's little of both. You got violence, sex, drugs, rapes, blood, politics and much more fu** up things along with some good things. It's harsh world where nothing is like it seems at first. It's way more mature but some people just want fantasy good vs evil and they dont like it. Just play TW again and see what was on the other side.

You decide what you like most.

One small private question. Are you from USA ?

You had me then you said that.

I'm from the US and TW2> DA:O > TW> DA2 imo.

@Ringo12, it is just a question :P Not related to game preferences. I just want to ask is there any kind of censorship in Witcher games there (whatever part of USA he live).
Like for example Fallout 1 (and 2 if I remember) have childrens removed in UK. I was just curious if there is something like that in USA.
Or Duke from DNF have his cigarette removed in EU.

Nope no censorship in Witcher 2 this time around.

@Bryy_Miller So it's ok for Isabella to make stupid jokes about Aveline's and her husbands sex life but not for a couple of dwarves to poke fun at a spell that turns out to be do something we didn't expect? Clearly your being bias. DA2 has much more jokes and no one seems to care. There needs to be humor in a game to ease the tension especially since the lesbomancy joke was made by a couple of dwarves who traditionally we see as horny drunks when not in battle are always joking around. Look at Legola and Gimli, Oghren and well anyone female from Origins. Zoltan in Witcher 1.

Alright, at this point, this has become YATW2 thread. We have one in Off-Topic in which people can discuss the Witcher 2 - it's not on-topic for these forums.

Locking.
