Precedence - Haks vs override

 I just want to be sure about whether or not a hak will always have precedence vs the override. I am finally trying to empty my override which currently has about 2 gigs of custom content - I was managing all of it from the override for easy editing - and now the constant effort to get all of the content working is done and it is hak time.

So ya - hak precedes override? always?

Well I got it worked out - the change over to using haks is complete - I still have to go over every area to be sure everything went into the haks but the override is now empty and at first and second glance all is well.

In the end it didnt matter if anything had precedence I just blasted through it and emptied the override. Anyway I know haks have precedence I just wanted an absolute confirmation so that I would know if the cc was working - as I said emptying the override was easy enough after the haks were tied in.

Not only do HAKs always override the override folder, but with multiple HAKs those at the top of the list (usually the first ones you add to the module) will override any duplicate files in any of the other HAKs.

That little fact nearly drove me mad at one point, as I was sure I'd added an edited 2DA to one of the HAKs, but the edits weren't showing up in the game. I had a 2DA of the same name in an earlier HAK associated with the test module, and it was taking precedence.

thanks DannJ - Now I remember that - I am glad you reminded me because there is a heck of alot of stuff in 5 haks for my 2 current projects - I broke them up according to file type - 2da, placeables, creatures, tilesets and then the infamous other stuff hak - which for "Ancient Memories" is the Werewolf hak.
