(SPOILERS) Yesterday I was at the point where Zhevran ambushes you with a group of bandits/assassins. Mostly everyone was dead and I had won the fight, I just had to sweep up the last couple so I decided to activate blood magic while I was low on health and I began casting spells and to my supprise it killed me! I think it should atleast deactivate itself when you don't have enough health left to cast a spell. And is the BM tree really that good? From looking at it, it doesn't seem like its all that "evil horrible power mages can do!!!". I really hope it turns out being good in the end since I only have 1 point in it so far.
I find it kind of odd that blood magic.....

You know how in fifth grade there was always this one kid in class who never wore a bike helmet because he was too cool for that?
he grew up to be a blood mage

I agree with you and disagree with you at the same time.
Blood Magic killing you when you are too low in HP is much more realistic and fitting with the established lore for the game.
Gameplay wise it is a bit retarded tho. Its rather annoying because its quite easy in the middle of battle to lose track of your HP and MP and then suddenly run out and die without the whole Blood Magic penalty on top.
Blood Magic isnt evil because the powers themselves are evil and what not. Blood Magic is considered "evil" because of its nature. Because it draws on the life force of the caster (or worse of others) as its source. And is often used to dominate those surrounding the blood mage against their will.

It's not like Blood Magic comes with a built-in fail-safe. It's a forbidden magic school for a reason. You gamble for the extra power and it bit you.

Yeah, the final spell makes enemies fight for you. That is a life saver. Blood mage is only good when you have 1, maybe two really strong tanks, since you be sending your spells, run out of mana, then have to dip into your health. If your tanks are doing what they should, you should have enough health to draw on. Blood magic is kind of like the walking bomb spell: great damage but it comes at a cost(it really damages your group, especially if a mage is near)

I love Blood Control. There was this one time when I BC'ed a patrolling guard, and he went to attack those in standby. Alerted everyone to attack him, which means easy AoE'ing the enemy to death.
That said, BC might be fun, but Blood Wound is by far the more powerful spell. Fast cast, no friendly fire, and mass stun + DoT is just tooo damn good. Its balanced by the fact that you need to cast it under blood magic, and there's a number of enemies who aren't affected by it (golems, demons, and undead come to mind).
