Bump...this has been broken a while now and they know the issue...any chance on actually fixing it?

I'm curious also; is this being addressed?

As of yet no information on a new patch. Kind of an annoying bug. Purchased the talent for Hawke to get up to 10% critical chance without having to put points on dexterity (early in the game a 10% critical chance is rather nice imo) but after saving and loading the game, the critical chance was back down to 0. Same for Fenris.
Seems the issue is known by BW by now. Hope they'll fix it in pc patch 1.04

The hell? More BUGS?! I knew I shouldn't have patched... Is there a wayto get rid of it if you respec, remove Sunder, and then edit the save?

After reading a bit about this, I found a "moderately acceptable" workaround for warrior Hawke until next patch.
The problem seems to be that after each savegame load, all values are recalculated. However, this recalculation is bugged and doesn't add sunder to critical chance. After this, the game will think the sunder is added, so anything that removes sunder, will reduce from the crit chance even to negative.
The fix is to equip one handed weapon before save. Now the sunder isn't "active" and the crit chance is calculated correctly after you load the savegame. Changing back to 2-handed "activates" sunder correctly and you have correct crit chance.
You have to do this each time you save though, or at least when you think you need the crit bonus. Seemed to work for me, let me know how you fare.

Works like a charm. The 2h warrior character I loaded had a 2h weapon equipped with a critical chance of 12%. Replacing the weapon by a 1 handed sword dropped critical chance to 2%. After saving and loading that save it went up to the 22% it was supposed to be at.
Thanks. Even though this should really be fixed by a patch, this solution is very acceptable (at least compared to the maker's sigh trick), at least this way I'm not missing out on a very useful +10% critical chance.

Thanks for the workaround, it's inconvenient but at least the talent remains usable!

I'm wondering... If a character starts with Dexterity at 10, is the critical chance supposed to be zero? Right now, Varric has 17 dexterity and has a 7% critical chance. My warrior has 10 and has a critical chance of zero. Is this as it should be?
I saw the -10% bug happen with my warrior after using Maker's Sigh, but it fixed itself upon reloading. I'm just curious as to whether or not the characters all really start at 0% with ten dexterity. Since I'm patched to 1.03 which recalculates upon every save loading, I can't be sure if there's something wrong... especially since I'm not sure about the beginning stat at 10 dexterity.
Should be a simple question for you smarties, right?

No one knows what the base critical chance should be? It seems my companions are starting at zero. For instance, Aveline has 10 in dexterity and 0% critical chance. Is this as it should be? For some reason I thought everyone started at 5%....
I'd figure this was common knowledge among so many more seasoned players than myself. I'll have another look on wikia, but if anyone knows the answer, it'd be great.

The minimum displayed critical chance is zero (when dex is 10), so to answer the original question - yes, it is as it should be.
The actual minimum crit chance is 5%. Meaning you would crit 5% of the time even if you have 0% in the attributes screen.

Any Idea of a fix for Fenris. Since he can gain a pretty high crit chance it really sucks that he can not use sunder.
Edit: someone just made a fix for this bug. Find it here:
