i wanted to discuss the idea of melee in ME3. im not against melee, beucase anything more is better, but i can see a problem with it because ive played halo. essentially halos best means of death is the stock of your gun to the enemies face. i hope ME3s combat isnt a race into melee range. melee in ME2 isalready OP. its alreadymore powerful then a shot from my weapon, and more usefull then heavy throw on a protected enemy.

does anyone else think melees getting to big of a boost in ME3?

best way they can handle it is to make the big powerful melee attacks have long animations so you're committed to it, so theres a risk factor in using it.

For a start, you rarely have enough health to stand out in the open and go toe to toe with enemies in either Halo or ME.

If you think the main way to kill someone is to run up and hit them, then you should turn the difficulty up and learn the value of cover and the ability to attack from range.

No, that would be lame. I don't want to be punished for using something. Games should be challenging, not frustrating. When I die, it should be because I made a mistake, not because the game decides I'm unable to do anything about attacking somebody whilst getting shot.

never played a vanguard eh?
if you can one hit kill dudes with simple melee attacks, why would a vanguard even need a gun?

The OSOK melee requires holding the button down, so chances are it will have a wind-up time and therefore be impractical if you're under fire.

Also: melee is not OP. The simple act of getting into melee range is not trivial unless you are a Vanguard, Infiltrator or Assault Sentinel. Once you are there, you are behind enemy lines and now need to worry about your target's friends, against whom you have less cover now that you have traversed the battlefield. And finally, some enemies are just suicide to try and melee, like Praetorians, husk packs, or YMIRs. Even shotgun mooks can be a pain at melee range.

Ever played on a difficulty above normal? Then you'd realise that charging into any more than 2 enemies means instant death no matter how fast you can kill the first guy.

i never melee in ME, but i dont know about you but whenever im playing halo i always feel like im in a race to get into melee range.

i never said it was the main way in killing someone, just the type of gameplay the evolved from it.

Forcing melees to take a second to react isn't punishing you. It's making you decide strategies. There's a guy over there....risk a few seconds so I can one shot him with a melee or continue taking pot shots from where I'm at.

Since we're drawing some Halo reference into this, I'd view the OSOK melees as similar to the Assassinations in Halo: Reach - you feel like a badass when you do them, but they aren't too practical in the middle of a firefight with many enemies still standing.
