So negative about everything thats happening in the game world it makes me wonder why your here at all.
everything is gonna be sequelized and redone to death you either except it or continue complaining like you do.
So Halo 4 is coming out so what?  i'm ignoring it and enjoying what does excite me.

Batman Arkham City,  Skyrim,  Uncharted 3 and Mass Effect 3 all stole the show for me.... all of which are sequels one is from a almost 90 year old comic series.
Give me a break the reality is most of the "original" stuff stole from already established crap as it is.  Mass Effect is Gears of War with RPG thrown in.
Originality is dead and the sooner you accept that the sooner you can move on.

Hold on - you complain that I am derailing the thread by discussing the state of the industry, to which I respond, then you tell me I have missed you point, and begin talking yourself about the state of the industry?  I believe you may have missed your own point.

If you want to discuss the industry with me, I'll gladly oblige, as long as you are aware that in doing so, we are in some sense, certainly by your own words, derailing this thread.

So that you need not wonder any further, I am here because I enjoy the social aspects of posting and reading responses on this particular forum.  There isn't much more to it than that.  Whether the topic of discussion is the state of the video game industry, politics, or the type of music that we like, I enjoy reading and responding to the posts of others.

I don't regard my posts as being grim or particularly negative about the future of the industry.  I merely noted that this is where things have been heading of late, and gave some explanation of my perspective on this trend.

Inevitably games must take some inspiration from other titles when it comes to both mechanics and plot.  As you pointed out, Mass Effect has a combat system somewhat similar to Gears of War.  So, let me pose you this question then.  Is the existance of Mass Effect a good thing?  Which sets of games would you rather exist in an ideal world:

* ME1, ME2, ME3 & GoW 1, 2, and 3

OR

* GoW 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6?

Despite sharing some gameplay elements with GoW, would you rather the world where Bioware put their own spin on the cover based third person shooter and created a unique series (ME), or would you rather the world where we had another 3 virtually identical sequels?

I never said you were derailing this thread. I was saying your complaining was annoying. You seem to have a huge thing against Halo 4 coming out and my whole point is no one is forcing you to play it.

Yes the Mass Effect series is tons better than GoW that was just an example (Gears of War is boring IMO)
You may not think your posts as negative but they come off as "Oh noes another Halo is being made the entire state of the game industry sucks"

I have a huge thing against Halo4. That shovelware can go back where it belongs.. "rm -rf /halo/*"

One of the worst FPS series.

But on topic, can't wait to see more Skyrim.. ME3 looks disappointing, but theres still lots of time till 2012

EA and UbiSoft had the best press conferences. Kobe stole Sony's press conference from Sony.

Nintendo will have to work tomorrow. But they have a new console to show off, so that's right there gives them a bit of a head start.

i think it's ridiculous to judge E3 by what gets shown at press conferences which is usually the big-buck marketing tools, there's lots of more unique games at E3 on the show room floor that just don't get demo'd on tv

for the most part E3 is still a showcase for brick & mortar retailers hence the desire to market your biggest selling products not literally everything you've got (also, ME3 was disappointing at E3 imo)

Looked awful? That was the best looking Kinect game at Microsoft's Kinect conference. It's a casual game. Not the next big thing, right? Everything else was Sports and Sesame street.

It may have been the best of the Kinect games but it still looked awful. Which I think says it all really. I've already forgotten the rest of the Kinect games.

This new Nintendo thing looks like a gimmick, that pad looks really awkward to hold.

That thing looks terrible, dont get me wrong, its amazing technology and all, but imo they would be better of by not releasing it:P
