I'm not a fan of Star Wars, but Star Wars Kinect sounds terrible.

It looked awful. Like seriously bad.

Looked awful? That was the best looking Kinect game at Microsoft's Kinect conference. It's a casual game. Not the next big thing, right? Everything else was Sports and Sesame street.

It may have been the best of the Kinect games but it still looked awful. Which I think says it all really. I've already forgotten the rest of the Kinect games.

NeoGaf said there's a 3-second lag between your command and the action on screen? That does not sound like a good game.

Looking forward to Arkham, though. And now I want to look up what Nintendo's new controller looks like ...

Also, ME3 is giving me an incredibly bad feeling. RPGCodex is not happy either. I tend to trust their (hyperbolic) evaluations. Here's hoping Bioware doesn't screw it up. Don't screw it up, Bioware!

According to previous reports, the new console will have as much power as the PS3 and XBox 360, perhaps even more so. So they pretty much created a handheld system that makes the 3DS obsolete at this point.

I thought it was a whole new console and that was just the contoller for it. I dunno I'm confused too but I've kinda lost all interest in it at this point.

Oh, come on, it's Nintendo...with 3rd party support! Am I the only one excited about this?

Obvious, 'cause I'm not tracking this on video, I might be wrong, but I think it isn't a standalone handheld device. I think you can only use it with the new console?

Your 3DS is safe.

Nintendo just f'd up the conference. The technology seems pretty cool...but idiots started talking about their new controller and refering to it as "console". Now I'm starting to understand...but they haven't shown the damn console yet. I'm assuming they don't have any final specs...they probably designed the controller first, and dont have a console to show...or even really know what the specs/interface is going to be.

Look like some great titles are getting support. But OMG, seriously...stop calling it Wii U.

So it's not going to be big upgrade in power is what your saying?

The Wii U confuses me. It looks great, but I have no idea what it is and what they are trying to do with it. It seems like it's trying to do a lot and there wasn't a clear vision there. Hopefully the news sites will get their hands on it and make things more clear. Until then, I'm going to make siren noises, weeyoo weeyoo weeyoo weeyoo.

I am also just confirming that there is standard console there as well, when the conference made it seem like the Wii U was the console and it was meant to work with the Wii. Just a very unclear message from Nintendo. The Wii was bizarre when it was first shown, but I still felt like I could see what they were trying to do with it. This has left me impressed but lost.

I've never been a big Nintendo fan to be honest, so the excitement is lost on me. Other than Zelda and Starfox I don't really like their other games. Am I alone in finding Mario boring?

No, I'm saying that at this point, when you have a console(was the controller the console?) that functions as a handheld device and has more capabilities than their current handheld console and more graphics than the two current consoles that Microsoft and Sony are producing right now, it doesn't give much of an incentive to buy the 3DS.

No, I think this is just the controller. I don't think they have made a console yet...but this pairs with the console, when they finalize that. I think any pictures of the "console" that are being released are kind of a filler...and not the real design of the thing.

But what if you want that awesome 3D? Yeah, Nintendo is cannibalizing their own handheld. Very weird, I agree that there isn't much point in buying a 3DS with the Wii U on the horizon. Of course, we haven't got a price yet, could be $600 for the console/controller bundle. Of course the controller is also a console, so it's really a console/controller/console bundle. We can't say much about the console at this point, it might be a controller itself. Maybe you can use the console to control the controller to control the console to create a recursive loop and open up the fabric of spacetime. Also, Ninja Gaiden...so there's that.

Kotaku claims (coyly) that they played the console, so I imagine the mechanics are moslty in place, even if the look may be subject to change.

I may have started my reply a little too soon.

Now that I actually see the hardware, I think the reason why they didn't show it was because they wanted to show what the console was capable of. The controller was apparently what sets it apart from all other consoles.

Yeah, I think this is like E3 2005 in the sense that people were expecting something else and then they didn't know what to think of it. To be honest, the fact that they have 3rd party support excites me. Also, who's to say that we won't get more information next E3? That's what happened back in 2006 with the Wii and people were excited.

Nintendo dropped the ball. I want a Super Nintendo 2.0 not Wii-U.

Metroid HD?
Super Castlevaina 5?
Super Mario World 3?
F-Zero HD?
Zelda HD?
Donkey Kong Country HD?

I think they should have held off on this news until closer to launch but the secret would have slipped by then.

It would have been smart for Nintendo to include the console in their presentation... now a lot of people got really confused..

But it is a console but you can use the controller as a independent handheld?, do they realise their basicly killing the DS with this? or on the other hand, that people will go for an independent handheld and a independent console that doesn't have an controller that looks like that and looks like its very annoying to hold (and that isn't called Wii U)..

Yeah there was noticable lag between movement and action. It also didn't seem to be 1:1 movement with the lightsaber. Like the guy was swinging to deflect shots and was getting generic horizontal chops.

Arkham City looked awesome.

As far as ME3 goes, I loved the video's that they have put out. It just looks like an evolution of ME2 which is all I really want.

All the videos are on www.gametrailers.com anyway if you ever get a chance to watch them.

From what they said though it sounds like the console has to be on and you probably can't get very far from it before the controller stops working. So its not really going to be competing with the 3DS and Vita for on the go gaming.

The game designers talking about it somehow managed to make it sound worse. Especially that one guy who claimed he could finally now play a game in bed with headphones on while his wife sleeps.

The message seemed to be "this is not a handheld, it's meant to be used with with something else, which we aren't even going to acknowledge so you'll just assume it's meant for the Wii, now look at all these games you can play on it, just like you could a handheld" and then the whole first bit gets lost and people just assume it'll be like the Vita's transfarring. I guess they've got people talking, even if it's just to utter a WTF.

Showing a guy actually switching between a Wii-mote and the Wii-U-mote-thingy didn't help matters either. I'm not sure what they were going for at all by hiding the console itself. Devious bastards.

Speaking of the controller, it looks huge. Microsoft released a smaller xbox controller because people complained about the first being too big to comfortably use. This thing looks about as big as a Jaguar controller from what I've seen, it looks really uncomfortable.

Nintendo's new motto should be "Making gaming a confusing chore that may cause headaches." Thats basically what they have done with the Wii, 3DS and now this.

I've decided I'm going to just continue calling it Wii Two. I'm sorry, but I feel ridiculous enough saying Wii by itself to say Wii U. I work in retail...probably wont by the time this comes out...but I cant do it.
