Eh? Mages are still powerful, IMO equal with warriors and both much much weaker than rogues. The only difficutly they're nerfed on is nigthmare because DA2 has 100% elemental immunity instead of magic resistance.

It all depends on your build. On nightmare. On every other difficultly mages are overpowerered because of no FF.

FF? Thank you also what is the best mage build? Are you saying they are still strong post patch 1.03?

Given how you are clueless about the combat systems in both DA:O and DA2, your opinion means nothing.

If anything, the buff's they made to fire spells was over compensation for the nerfs to CCC's and BM. Drop a firestorm on any group, better yet drop 2 or 3 (merril and anders), watch everyone die including assassins and lieutenants, you can keep them inside your firestorm with force mage spells btw.

Perhaps it's too late for this thread, but, before the patch, my perception was that the mages were powerful, but weaker than the other two. The CCCs gave a sense that they needed the other classes as crutches, being unable to stand on their own. Perhaps the patch fixes the CCC issue, but I've yet to see someone argue (plausibly or o/w) that the mage is the most powerful class, and my sense is that at best they're powerful, but not relatively.

Yes. Here's a post 1.03 build+

Primal Mage + Elemental Mage + Force Mage/Entropy(for PC/Merril). Anders is a tricker build, best is to just go for creation+other buffs (IMO).

You can CC off anything you like with the Primal + Elemental + Force Mage combo. Stagger (via shield bash) with an S&S warrior (basically the same as CC with 2H Vanguard) with upgraded Fist of the Maker or Chain Lightning. Brittle CC with winter's grasp and cone of cold for rogues (burst arrow + lance) or 2H warriors. And you still have Stonefist for Disorient CC.

Mages own. I'd build abilities in this order, after respecing to lose mind blast:

Primal (picking up winter's grasp first and workin fast get the upgrade for brittle CC with Varric, then making sure to have +fire dmg % items for level 1 fireball and firestorm)- Primal (rock armour + upgraded chain lightning) + Force (1 level each starting from fist of the Maker).

After that it's up to you.

Like DA:O, with the right build, every class is a killer.
