Was that the same VA for Mordin in the Microsoft Press Conference?

For some reason I don't think Michael Beattie will be back.

He made Mordin his own, and it will be sad if he's not back.

The sad thing is that from fan correspondence posted elsewhere, he does sound like he wants to come back as Mordin. And that BioWare never approached him for ME3 either.

I thought at the time he was maybe under an NDA or something, but given that Keener, Helfer and Seth Green were all openly saying they were doing voices for ME3, I'm starting to wonder....

But if Beattie isn't coming back -be it because BioWare won't let him or something-, then that's a damn shame. His perfomance as Mordin truly made the character for me. Playing his loyalty mission and hearing the vocal aerobics from one emotional extreme to another floored me. There was something about Beattie's performance that gave Mordin one of the key components of a character: heart.

The Mordin in the E3 demo? That's not Mordin. He may look like Mordin and have the mannerisms/speech style of Mordin, but that's not the "true' Mordin to this fan.

If BioWare won't let Beattie back, then it's their loss. I won't let it ruin my enjoyment of the game, but it will put a damper because Mordin was _the_ character out of everyone I was looking so forward to seeing in ME3.

Oh well.

Well, the game is nine months away, and these E3 things are notoriously difficult because they're entire completed sections of a work in progress.

So, place holder dialogue and actors are fairly common. Dunno if that's the case here, I certainly hope so.

(Evil) Chris Priestly has pretty much omplied that a placeholder is what was there.

Thane had a placeholder last year.

I hope that's a place holder... Mordin didn't say 3 words before I knew that wasn't him.. he sounded like a completely different salarian, just using the same mannerisms as Mordin.

I'll assume it's due to unfinished VO work.. but if they've swapped the actor for the final release, I'll be baffled and rather disappointed... ME3 will be the last time we see these characters ever again (most likely) I want my Mordin (and all characters) back the way they were... not different actors.

I said this in the Mordin Fan Thread, but I urge people to (politely, kindly) ask Casey Hudson via Twitter what the whole deal is with Mordin's E3 voice. In all honesty, I'd readily believe what he has to say more than Chris Priestly (sorry, Priestly), tbqh.

I would imagine it's a placeholder. In ME1 and ME2 trailers placeholder voices were often used, though admittedly this wasn't for returning characters. I would be disappointed not to see Beattie return, but I wouldn't exactly call my hopes "dashed" yet.

Well, then that means there's still time to show BioWare that those of us who liked Beattie's Mordin in ME2 want the actor back.

We just have to let them know, is all.

You people need to calm down. Before ME2 everyone was wondering if Keith David would be back as Anderson. As late as fall 2009 he gave an interview where he said he hadn't been approached by BW/EA yet.

So, no reason to panic if Beattie hasn't confirmed anything yet. I, for one, would be extremely surprised if he didn't return. If you're skeptical about him returning, I urge you to think: when has BW ever cut corners in a main title's voice acting? In DLCs this tends to happen, sure, but never in a main game title.

EDIT: grammar fail

Yeah, I made this topic right while the demos were popping in. I've long since gotten some reassurance and I think we can safely say the odds of Beattie not returning are quite slim.

Don't forget that Thane's voice was different in the E3 footage for ME2 than it ended up being in the end as well.

Hey, I'd rather say something now, be proven wrong in the end and have egg on my face for worrying instead of not saying a single word and having Not*Mordin from the E3 demo be in the final product instead of Beattie because no one spoke up.

So did I. But there was always the slim chance it was something else and it's good to promote healthy discussion.

MTE.

If anything, asking questions when stuff like this comes up shows BioWare that people DO care about the actors/actresses who perform these characters.

So if they were planning on NOT bringing Beattie back for ME3, the questions/concerned voiced by the fans hopefully will have them take notice while there's still time in the development cycle.

I think that changing voice actors from one game to the next for the same character would be a bad move for Bioware, especially for a game as big as Mass Effect. Obviously, the fans think that the voice was perfect for the character so why fix what isn't broken? Playing Tales of Symphonia several times through then going on to Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World made me cringe every time a returning character spoke due to an entirely different voice actor. The time spent on auditions and sorting through those would cause a delay in the game that I'm sure neither us nor Bioware would want.

I'm also thinking that voice actors that have more dialog would be approached first to avoid rushing a lot of what we are going to be hearing, hence Mark Meer already being recruited, so to speak.

on the subject of the "off" or "placeholder" voices, did EDI sound a little too human and not neutral during the EA press conference demo?

She had like 2 lines, so hard to really tell. Besides, after Joker unshackles her, she starts to develop a more complex personality, which could warrant more "human" voice-acting.

I heard a rumor Nolan North was voicing everyone in this game. Yes, even the girls.
