It'd only be cool if you could keep it out to me.

Well, I just saw the video with the omnitool blade thingy-ma-jig, so I thought I'd post in an on-going thread.

I am flabbergasted. Why like that?

Is that flip out blade intended only for the Sentinel maybe? I haven't read through all 18 pages of this thread yet.

The blade shown in the demo is for soldiers.  Apparantly each class gets a unique melee attack.

Anyone else more concerened over the idea of a "biotic" blade?

Personally I'd rather see biotic punches  or other blows than a blade.

Same here, it would make much more sense as I said a few posts up. :)

My opinion on the laser knife:

Totally unnecessary. Leaves me totally indifferent, and it's pretty sad to see this one of the big reveals of the ME3 E3 stuff.

Honestly I like it, yes I'd rather it be an actual blade but it's okay.

Melee weapon = fine by me.

Name 1 recent shooter game which doesnt have a melee weapon. I cant think of one.

Good addition, and if you dont like it, just dont use it.

Well that flipout blade seems more appropriate for the Sentinel though. The Soldier should have some sort of blunt melee attack with all of the muscle and bone enhancements that are native to the class that are further augmented in ME2 with the Research Upgrades.

I'd rather there be a Shadow Broker Shield for the Soldier (maybe, kinda like a round shield with a star...)

and give the Sentinel the Omniblade to go with Tech Armor.

Well, that's my 2¢ anyway ^_^

The omni-blade is the coolest thing we saw in this E3.

I call it "Decline of Consistency".

I am all in for awesome, as long as it stays consistent to the established lore.
I guess if I were a game developer, my games would be a lot less "cool" and "awesome" ...

In regards to the 'Warp Blade' or 'Biotic Blade' I completely agree.

You know what I find cool and awesome?  When they work within the established Lore and take things in an imaginitive way that leaves you thinking 'Huh, I never thought of that! It makes sense! Damn thats clever!'.

Case in point:

In ME:2 enemies affected by Pull have their mass lowered to such a degree that when hit with a Throw they are effectively punted into the stratosphere.  This makes sense and its quite a clever use of the Lore when you think about it.

Personally, I see soldiers being associated more with unarmed fighting rather than a tech blade.  I only see the tech blade appropriate for engineers, maybe infiltrators and sentinels.  Though I see infiltrators as being skilled in unarmed combat as well, Shepard should take some pointers from Thane if he was an infiltrator or soldier.  Thane had a lot of techniques to break the necks of various species.  That would be very useful to Shepard in a CQB situation.

Sentinels should have the option to use the omni-blade, or a biotic variation, since they are skilled in use of tech and biotics.  While Vanguards and Adepts should have a similar approach to what Morinth/Samara and Jack can do in close quarters combat.

Blurry, I can't see whether he hits him or not.  It looks like Shepard tries to gain momentum with a pistol whip and misses pretty badly.

Yeah, he misses. The Cerberus trooper just fainted after seeing the sight of Shepard's imminent whipping.

It looks more like he saw the pistol whip coming and ducks before it hits him

Not sure why you'd have a "biotic blade," as opposed to just the biotic Super Punches we see all of the Biotics do or talk about doing at some point, but we've never able to use before as players.

Omni-blade is fine.  Bit of a misfit on the soldier vs being on an engineer or sentinel, but not completely inconceivable.

Uh... just a quick note.

For some reason, I can't seem to recall anyone complaining about the Sentinel armor in ME2. Unless I missed that.

If it can stop gunfire... why not develop the technology so it can take down baddies? I don't see any problems with the logic here.

There's a biotic blade...?

See, now that actually doesn't make sense :\\

Its going to be a blade? does this mean its probably going to function just like the omni blade only look a bit different? thats a bit disappointing.

First of i really liked the blade from the beginning.

First idea was it to be an combination of an invisble blade (for example a forcefield) and a
hologram, which are discribed by lore to be used to visualize otherwise invisible things like the input areas of the omni tool. another idea is that the material the blade is made of diverts the light of the omnitool hologram making it shine.

In case of stealth you have to distinct between ingame and gamplay. I think ingame they don't even use the glowing hologram of the tool in stealth scenarios as they know the positions of the combat associated applications and can use them eve blind. On a sidenote it would be a nice idea to be able to choose your omni tool color or even use it transparent.

About the adept melee attack i think in one of the e3 interviews it was mentioned they will get some sort of AoE knockback, like the shield of the sentinel has. For vanguard i hope for the biotic punch.

To me the idea seamed silly at first, but seeing it in action makes me like it, alot. And all this talk of it not suiting soldiers...I say bleh.

Simply because, well, all Shepards have an omni tool. So would one who basically using it as a glorified iPhone and med-gel dispenser want another function on it? A switchblade sounds nice.

The only thing that bugs me is calling it a hologram all the time. Kind of annoying. They could seriously start calling it "plasma" and I'd suspend all disbelief.

The very idea of a hologram being used as a blade is just ridiculous. The Omni-Tool throwing balls of fire that magically home in on the targets was bad enough, but this is going too far.

The very idea of a hologram being used as a floating set of armor is absolutely retarded.

Oh wait.

really? 19 pages on the omni-blade?

It's a cool gimmick and nothing more. Get over it.

Sure it would make more sense for the soldier to have a real blade... the infiltrator to use his hands... the sentinel and engineer to use the tech blade and the vanguard and adept use the biotic BLADES ... I'm pretty sure I read that it's a flurry of blades done with biotics, not just a single blade that looks like the tech blade.

Either way, it's looks so much better than punching someone with that ridiculous looking melee attack from ME1 and ME2.
