It's not going to happen. The writer who brought ME's codex to life quit Bioware some time during ME2's development. It seems like he was the sole person there who had some interest in keeping the universe at least somewhat grounded in speculative fiction. With his departure, Mass Effect has gone hardcore comic book/Star Wars rip.

Wait, Mass Effect was speculative fiction? Was that before hyper-advanced AI teaming up with more advanced AI in using an effect caused by neutrons? ME took a knife and jammed it so hardcore into physics it left it bleeding on the sidewalk.

Nope! That's not at all what I said actually, and good thing, because it would have been a pretty dumb thing to say! As you can see if you go back and actually read my post, what I said was "at least somewhat grounded in speculative fiction."

I definitely don't like the look of it. Looks gimmick-y, even after someone-not naming names- said there wasn't anything of the sort.

Then I can easily rephrase to ''seriously, you though it was somewhat grounded''?

There was nothing even close to something grounded in speculative fiction. Indoctrination is BS. Physic message transition is BS. Husks?

Eden Prime breaks speculative fiction times 1000.

For all the elegance, sense of purpose and efforts to stay somewhat original the universe and plot had back in the original, this doesn't seem like the way to go in my eyes...

I think they're mostly saying a lot and not actually going back to the original too much.

Then why are you still here? It appears MEs fiction has cause so much nerd rage on your end, if we could harness the energy from it, we would have unlimited power.

I hope that each class has an "omni-blade" variant. I read something about unique melee attacks. I thought it was pretty cool, given that we saw it with a soldier; crude, quick, efficient, and visually very straight to the point (really no pun intended). I'm just hoping they all look and feel unique, so hopefully the adept's melee for example isn't just a blue/purple colored omni-blade with the same animations and instead something pretty nifty.
If tactical cloak is in, it would be awesome just running up to an enemy and get a nice insta-kill in.

Err... what? I really like ME. I just think calling ME1 speculative fiction, particularly to then try and criticize the science fiction in ME2, is commically wrong.

But sure, go on totally missing the point.

I think we can safely say the Omni-blade is a hit. Its by far the most discussed and hottest topic on the forum. Well. Besides Ashley.

But considering that Bioware is know for its intriguing characters that makes sense.

Anyway. I think the Omni-blade won.

What if they give Ashley dual omni blades?

Fan's MINDS would explode.  It would be too sexy.  And she would be too OP.  And the universe would implode.

You guys keep going on about how the omni-blade sucks because it's just made of light.

Well, so is the Tech Armor power, right? At least, according to the logic you guys have used. Supposedly, it boosts your kinetic shields. What if the omni-blade is just an extension of the shield?

Thus ending the Reaper threat for good.

I think most of you are missing something here. One of the core functions of an omni-tool is manufacturing. From the Codex:

The fabrication module can rapidly assemble small
three-dimensional objects from common, reusable industrial plastics,
ceramics, and light alloys.

We know that the omni-tool is capable of fine enough work to repair highly advanced weaponry and equipment in the field, at range. So it's not much of a stretch to assume it could just create a sharp, thin blade out of junk/omni-gel in a hurry. The shiny light display could easily be a safety feature (so soldiers don't conjure up an absurdly thin and almost invisible blade only to forget it was there and slice their arms off). Manufacturing the blade on the spot would presumably be easier then incorporating a gigantic physical one into a soldier's wristguard.

I always used the same explanation for combat drones. If you look at one, the bits of light aren't even connected to each other. So I figured the actual drone was tiny, and generated a massive light show so combatants knew where the hell it was.

The tech armor is a good point.  It's solid enough to take a couple dozen rounds, so a blade made of it makes a lot of sense.

I think it looks different but in an awesome way. Plus, it's supposed to be different for different classes. The engineer I've heard is getting some type of inferno blade, biotics some sort of psy blade, etc.

BW could've gone the easy route and just given everyone a typical blade but they did something unique for this game and for every class from what I've heard. What's not to like? For 2 games we've had people complaining about the poor close combat capabilities (except maybe for biotic charge or having a shotgun handy) and now that we have a up-close and personal melee attack... people are STILL COMPLAINING. I guess that's all the internet is good for.

Like I said in my response - suggesting that there was even a shred of speculative science fiction, in any sense of the world, is like saying Dragon Age is sort of, or somewhat, speculative fiction. ME was always Star Wars + Earth. And now it even has lightsabers.

Yeah sure, and then there is that off chance that they may or may not actually make the blade weaponry different and unique whatsoever for every class.  I'm going to say this is probably how it will be considering that even though it is such a small item in the game that could easily be modified to be truly unique, the developers will probably take the easy route and make every blade use the same animations, and same general purpose.  Basically just being reskinned versions instead of being unique in a variety of ways.

It looks the replacement for the famous elbow attack that Shepard does in Mass Effect 2.
