I liked the omni-blade thing, i was hopeing for something like that acctually.

And imo it fits with the lore in the ME universe. And Btw, its not just light, its light plus a sold mass effect barrier, so yes its solid so it can touch you.

Look up some of it in the holographic projection section of the codex. I think it was the Haptic display techology. This "blade" is just a different application of similar ME technology. Instead of a sold surface to display things on and type on, you make a blade to stab people with;P

The haptic display technology is not solid, hence you need to either use a tech-glove or have implants to operate one.. if you want to introduce this blog to the lore then the loophole is how omni-tools can use create from a limited range of plastics etc. Hence the ability to shoot heated plasma (Incinerate) and the cold stuff, presumably therefore they would say that could be used to make a temporary blade

On the one hand, knives and bladed or edged weapons have no place in a firefight.

On the other hand, I'm never going to use it for that very reason, so whatever. Looks neat, I guess.

lol so if you out of ammo and you enemy is upclose what are gonna kill em with? your conversation skills? bahahaha blades are there for CQC encounters.

My elbow thanks Bioware profusely.

Now if only Vanguards would get an Omni-cutlass I'd be a happy swashbuckler.

Vanguards better get something just as swift and badass like that. Infact I think all classes should be able to weild an Omni-Sabre.

Soldiers still carry bayonettes. It's rare that they're used but it happens.

Sounds like you only play as a Soldier.

Hint:  There are five other classes.  I can tell you that my Adept never worries about running out of ammo, because guns are secondary to abilities.

Adept, Vanguard and Sentinel might have some interesting melee options with biotics, but that god damn orange thing makes me chuckle. If you go to hitting range, why not just pull your pistol to the enemy's head and pull the trigger? Or do those bullets now have less penetration power than a bloody knife?

And anyways, why does it have to be shaped like it was designed by a 13-y-o Klingon fanatic?

Nah, no omni-toys for Vanguards. Real men use real swords weighted by mass-field.

That's not far from the truth. Kinetic barries stop high-speed projectiles(bullets, lasers, etc), but are vulnerable to slower-moving objects(punches, knives, etc).

I believe that was why melee ignored shields in the first game.

I just want a biotic punch. That's it. I don't want some lame little sword. I want to falcon punch someone in the face.

Bayonets? Nope. They're issued and thrown under your bunk like your Promask and the rest of your MOPP gear. The only edged stuff routinely carried anymore is a multi-tool for cutting rope, zip ties, etc., and maybe a pair of shears for cutting dressings. The only soldiers who carry combat knives anymore are the bored ones who had a few dollars to throw away on something shiny.

And if you run out of ammo in a firefight you deserve to get killed because your options were a) break contact and rearm before you were actually dry, or B) have your teammates shoot the guy coming at you.

CQC encounters only happen if you're doing it wrong.

I don't see what the problem is really. It's very safe to assume that it uses the same technology that allows for tech armor to act as a shield for sentinels.

I love how people are ****ing about a melee attack for Soldiers.

Seriously, lightsabers?? So anything that's shiny, made of energy, and is for stabbity-stab equals a lightsaber rip-off?

Really?

Lore-wise, I'm sure in a world that allows you to have tech armor that deflects weapon shots would also have a similar hard-hitting blade.

I'm just amazed that after people asked for more options in the game and Bioware adds something they can choose to explain within the lore how they see fit, people will actually raise a fuss about it O.o No offense to anyone against the Omni-blade - I just think it's a bit silly to nitpick that.

Not if you're Vanguard. The whole purpose of that class is to get into CQC and win.

Yes, but is the kinetic barrier right at the surface of the armor? Because I was thinking about pushing the gun under the barrier and pull the trigger there.

Besides, it would be cool if it were just a little less flashy.

Isn't melee good for stealth ops? Now how do you stealth with weapon that glows like a lamp?

Ehhh Maybe I'm wrong but...
The omnitool are made of REAL materials...
Also the blade is made of the same material that is composed the tech armor of the sentinel...
I don't have any problem with this

Personally, this is how I feel:

Is it silly and unrealistic? Yes.

Is it bad ass and does ME3 look friggin' awesome with that in it? Hell Yeah.

My read on the Vanguard is that you're supposed to use your shotgun to splatter people at close range.  That's an entirely different animal than getting into unnecessary knife-fights with people.

If you want to go with the textbook definition of CQC, yes, you are correct.  So I'll revise: if you're knifing somebody, you're doing it wrong.

I really hope that the devs put in a melee counter that the bots can use on you if you try to melee them.  Like, they sidestep your stab and give you a rifle butt in the teeth.  Then shoot you with their rifle.

I'm so dissapointed about the demo. I'm also thankful that they have delayed the game because judging by the look of the demo it sucks. Please, don't let this be another DA2.

I play a CQC sentinel. for me that was the most awesome thing in the trailer. Now I can understand the hate that comes along with it (it's out of place, just like SW etc) but as long as we don't see people dueling with them or Harbinger saying WE ARE YOUR FATHER SHEPARD, I think we'll be fine
