Its simple. They just weight the costs. If only a relative small handful of people are seeing this issue compared to all that have bought it (IE they sold 1 million copies but 300 people are seeing the save corruption issue) is it worth the development/testing/release time and money to fix it?

If the answer is "No" then they dont fix it. I am sure it will be noted for the next version and fixed for that so it doesn't happen again though.

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy alot of items from vendors and then destroy them to fix the problem with the broken savefiles?

I learned the hard way about corrupted files. I performed the dragon armor glitch, and then went back to get the Superior Drake Scale Armor. Found out that getting the Drake Scale Armor after caused the file to corrupt.

I'm just bumbing this as I would love to see a Bioware rep at least acknowledge the problem.

Dev response to the glitches in general found in this topic:

http://social.biowar...67/index/616302

Unfortunately it's not an official statement of any sort.  It's just one dev stating that he personally is aware of and concerned about the glitches, and while I certainly appreciate Victor's attitude, I wish that the whole company felt the same way.  It would appease so many people if they would just make an official statement similar to Victor's post in that topic and pin it.

What gets me is that they keep making DLC and such while leaving a glitch like this intact.  This corrupted saves glitch activates when a merchant gets overloaded with a large number of items, so what do they do about it......they release large amounts of additional content, dropping lots of new and additional items into the game, and making it easier for people to overload merchants.  Awesome.  Maybe with the expansion and even more DLC coming out, there will be enough content that a large number of people begin to experience this glitch, and perhaps something will actually be done about it then.

Well, the problem is that the glitch occured due to DLC which we paid for. So yes it is a big deal, and yes I do understand your point about the number of complaints vs cost to fix...however, if they are smart, and I know they are, then they will realize that it is not just the 281 people on this forum that are expiriencing the problem.  We just happen to be the very few that voice our frusterations on the issue. I immagine we are <1% of the people that are having issues with this very same problem. So by Bioware fixing the problem they will also fix any frusteration being felt by many more of their paying customers and loyal fan base then what is being represented on this forum, as well as building up their reputation as a reliable company who cares about the customers that put $$$ into their pockets. If they dont feel like paying the costs associated with fixing glitchs then they have an obligation to refund everyone who is expiriencing the problem the cost of the DLC (The Stone Prisnor)that caused it. I'm sure that route would end up costing more then a quick coding fix(honestly I have no idea what the costs would be or how intense of a fix it actually is). But more importantly they really dont want to lose any fan base or deter people from purchasing their future games. As I said, I can ASSURE you that many more people are expiriencing this problem then we are seeing here on the forum. Cheers.

PLEASE READ!!:
*** I followed the link several posts up and there WAS an acknowledgement by Bioware about the issue and assurance that some efforts are being made to make it known to the rest of the Bioware team. This is  relieving at least, knowing that our frustration isnt being ignored and fans dont have to put it on their "if only" game shelf. The statement is on the second page if you follow the link a few posts up. I recommend reading it before anyone else ****es about no one acknowledging the issue(hey I am guilty of whining too, but only BEFORE the aforementioned statement was posted...I think.)***

My latest save files are now corrupt. I am just before the Landsmeet. I have done the crystal glitch and I suppose it is possible that I overloaded the blacksmith in Redcliffe.

Can I load an earlier file (before selling some of the latest stuff to him) and have it work ok as long as I do not use the files that are already corrupted? Am I just totally screwed on this playthrough?

I have LOTS of saves. I would still lose a few hours of gameplay but that would be preferable to losing everything (especially since I have been going slow and doing ALL quests).

Load the earlier file and don't sell anything else to the Redcliffe Blacksmith. If it's corrupt from a vendor overload, you should be able to just save over the corrupt files and everything will be fine (or delete them if you wish). I was working off of a memory card when I messed around with this glitch and saved over several corrupt files and never had a problem with the new saves loading.

someone please help me. i'm new to this forum so please forgive if this has been posted. i just completed the urn of sacred ashes quest, the arl is awake and sent me to finish gathering the elves, dwarves, etc. and when i save my file gets corrupted. i've saved a few files just before i go into the fade so i can reload right away. here's the weird thing, every save (i tried this about 10 times) that i create AFTER the Arl is saved, i get the shield, and so on is corrupted. no matter where i go or how many other auto saves and cut scenes i experience. is there ANY solution to get around this? or do i need to delete this character? thanks alot

Well i got the corrupted file when got Warden's gate, about 45 hrs in, i was told to clear out my cache, did it and then my files ( 2 of them around the same time frame) were unloadable, wrote back was told to delete the file a dowload again still nada .......so basically took my 2 good saves about 15 - 17 hrs in saved to a mem card ....deleted the whole game and files from my HD inserted the disc and tried again still getting warden's gate is a corrupt file.....no saves still corupt, been over a month now and have still gotten no reponse from support on what if anything is being done now they announce Alliance to come out on disc......but from what i see zip with the current DLC .....i don't recall if i overloaded a merchant ... dont think so ...... now all the other DLC at release works fine for me stone prisoner, dragon armour, col ed stuff ....its so frustrating iw as enjoying the game so much and wanted to get all i can for it but if they do nothing i might as well just sell the game

You haven't gotten to the real nightmare yet if this is all the complaint is about. If all you are having is bad save files its not that bad yet. I tried to counter the problem by creating the max save files for characters and rotating them (its about 30). The problem occured when having to hard shut down a frozen Xbox about 200 times caused me to begin getting a massive amount of other errors that spread like wildfire to other games. The only answer to this problem is to stay off the game if you don't want the game to ruin your xbox. Wait and get back into it when they can fix the problem.

I will file a complaint to the vendor and/or the Finnish importer of DAO. I'm tired of games filled with bugs and this problem with DAO is the mother of all bugs, a bug queen. I already contacted Finnish consumer advice and they answered that if the flaw in product won't be fixed in reasonable time, I'm entitled to a compensation (lowered price) and if the flaw isn't minor, even to get my money back (I doubt that'll ever happen, tho').

Has anybody else done anything official?

this reminds me of derek smart and battlecruiser 2000 all over again....

it appears theres a pattern also - those who use " any " glitch are getting corrupt saves...  (shame on you)

OR those who overload a merchant are getting corrupt saves - there , covered my ass with the i havent done that or havent done this etc types. - i do not confess to being sherlock holmes eather !     i can see ill probably be walking to the local video rental shop and swap this for something else very soon - at this rate. - and will steer very wide of any bioware stuff from here on in - shame baldurs gate 1 & 2 where probably there finer moments. - i own both!

I've never had any problem with corrupted saves, and I've been through 4 characters totaling 150+ Hours... I always save after an auto save, however, so that could help too.

i also have never had a corrupt save , of any kind - which leads me to believe that glitches , and overloading a merchant is the cause - the overloading should have been sorted out before it was released (which leads me to believe items in the game really are limited.) , and the glitches too  ...
however im more concerned that my game sooner or later will go crappy - this is doing nothing for public relations... what if these corruptions are not only caused by these overloading's and glitches? - that's my concern. - again i own baldurs gate 1 and 2 plus the expansion tales of sword coast , and ice wind dale - maybe bio ware should stick to the forgotten realms franchise.... and that kind of style of game play.

one thing this game really needs on the xbox is the ability of deleting save games in game rather than having to goto system settings in the dashboard !

Absolutely don't like the having to go to system dashboard. Its definitely not just glitching, saves or overloading though. I am aware of this because I don't cheat and I've had characters go bad before I've even sold a single item while I have only a save or two going. Unless selling in other characters effects the ability to correctly use new ones. I don't know but otherwise none of the listed reasons happen that early.

The game is broken. Bottom line. Who-ever can sugar-coat it all who-ever wants, but the fact is this; the product is faulty. We can 1. get our money back and go on our merry way.(like that will happen...) 2. wait for patch that fixes it and get free DLC as compensation for lost hours of game play (...yea, right). 3. Wait for a patch that fixes it.(...again, yea right) 4. get lawyers involved ( 60 bucks is only sixty bucks to us but...) or 5. pretend we've been raped and act like nothing ever happened. I, for one, LOVE the game so I would prefer a patch. Also I would prefer free stuff (DLC, maybe even a free game...) on top of it because my money has been spent on something that was supposed to work but didn't. That would be good business...we'll see what happens. haven't been on live lately, but I hear RTO was released then pulled? Hmmmm...how convenient. Especially since a lot of people haven't gotten it yet, including myself. Wadda ya say BioWare? Sounds like a fare deal. Seriously though...never had a problem with ANY game like I have had with this one. It's sad, because I really want to play it. Tomorrow, after I try to load a corrupted save though, I may just want my damned money back.

yea, I just want my money back. BioWare, sorry guys, love your games, but I can't force myself to play this one again. It's just not the same now, and two tries gave me two game breakers. Sure a third try would have similar results at this point. So who do I contact about my refund? Is there a refund sticky?

i see ALOT of crying in this thread, understandably yeh, i can see the frustration but id love to see some of the whiners here create a game on this scale with no flaws.

Ive lost a level 25 warrior totaling almost 130 hours gameplay....., as annoying and 'heartbreaking' as it was, one flaw in over 125 hours woth of gaming time is still way more than my moneys worth. i mean cmon, u pay 40 quid for a game like modern warfare 2 and u get 5 hours out of it? u get raped on multiplayer and u start again..... ive had 130+ hours out of DAO, and still the chance to get more out of it with another origin story.

The problem has been acknowledged and a fix is being worked on. Deal with it.

Not to mention that id love someone to give me a game name that isnt in someway broken, EVERY game ive ever played has had some sort of cheat, glitch, typo and whatever in it. No game is perfect yet i dont see people crying over other games. Maybe their problems go so unnoticed by the whiners because the game is so small and crappy that no-one even notices the mistakes because they are so bored playing them. DAO is a substantially large game and tbh, anyone with any ounce of gaming history or common sense should have expected that there could be problems like this....

I think for a lot of people it's not just the bugs/glitches, or even losing hundreds of hours of gameplay, which I've had happen (7 characters 200+ hours), it's the lack of any sort of fix for these issues. Understandably there will be problems with most games, that really goes without saying, but it's been 3 months without a patch and I think that is what has a lot of people frustrated. Obviously there are differences in fixing the pc or xbox version, but the pc had a patch within weeks, we had a patch for only achievements and that was just a few weeks ago.

The problem has been aknowledged yes, but if you read Victor's post he says he doesn't know when/if there will be a patch. Some of it may be whining sure, but people have good reason to be angry.

Before you post another reply to this topic, read this. IT ISN'T BIOWARE'S FAULT. Blame edge of reality for being lazy and not bothering to make save files that change sizes. I haven't gotten any corrupt saves and I'm on my third playthrough and almost done with it. Ive used the money glitch, xp glitch, duping glitch, and I have all possible DLC. For some stupid legal reason, Bioware can't do a thing about it. So stop flaming Bioware and start flaming Edge Of Reality (If you don't know who they are, their add appears in the intro vid when you start the game up, they are responsible for the conversion of DA:O from PC to XBOX360 and PS3.

Yea this game has quite a few glitches, like sound sounding like it's in the background, loading blackness (where the map hasn't fully loaded) no sound at all for text, and so on. BUT no one complains about those, and if they did, they'd probably blame Bioware for it just like the glitch this thread is about.

Just a question but didn't you say in a previous post that you have an Xbox that freezes and you have to hard reboot? Don't you think maybe that's the problem? My Xbox has frozen once in more than 12 months of owning it. What you describe is likely a hardware problem, not a glitch in the software.
