Here's another person to add to the growing list of people suffering from the bug.

I've been following this thread for like... uhm... almost 4 months now, checking regularly to find out if anybody knew anything about a fix or if the game had been patched or something, but I think I'm throwing in the towel. I'm just gonna forget about the game and not support any lesser IP's from Bioware from now on, just sticking to Mass Effect and nothing else. And if not for the fact that the game was given to me as a holiday present, I would've gotten rid of it already.

It also kind of makes me paranoid for Any future purchases, as I never seem to have any luck with bugs :/
I had Mass Effect 2 bug out on me aswell, when I tried to import a character from a completed ME2 game to start a new campaign. Luckily that was easily fixed: clearing my cache.
Which incidentally might have screwed with my Fallout 3 saves... so yay for next-gen RPGs bugging out! :)

/end rant.
/give cookie.

My arcane warrior save is now corrupted. My biggest problem with this entire thing is crap started happening ever since that expansion pack came out.

Hey all,

We are defiantly looking at this issue, especially since a lot of people have lost some good hours to this crash. This issue has been added to our must-fix pile.

Defiantly? Surely it would be more defiant not to look at the issue...?

Seriously, though, very good (and surprising) news.

Humm I bought the game a couple weeks ago i now have all my effing files currupted. Gee for a bug to have been around this long and not be addresses is pretty lame. This is almost verging on Infinity Ward sorryness for not addressing a KNOWN bug. Wich would be simple as heck to fix if they would pay more attention to a game they have already made than going on and trying to make a buck off an expansion to an already bugged game. This Isn't a small bug where you loose an item. People have lost hours and hours and prsumable years in time added together. I bet if someone at BioWare had fudged their time clock for 4 hours they would get canned. But if we get screwed out of 10, 20, even 50 hours what we get? ummmmm what i thought. This has really made me take a long look at BioWare and i will promise you i will not be buying their games in the future til they have been out for a while and a BUG list made by players has been listed of discussed in some fourm.

This has been one heck of a mark on BioWare's rep. I recieved this glitch without the infiant crystal glitch or doing any other glitches for that matter. I come on here to find out that it was from selling to my camp vendor too much. Other games don't have this problem. Fallout or Oblivion the vendors have a gold(or bottle cap) limit. When they have no more gold they can't buy any thing else til an aloted time goes buy and the vendor refreshes. I can expect a certian small amount of bugs from any game i play. After i beat a game a few times  sometimes i will even search for them. Like getting off the map in Mass Effect 2, or trying to glitch myself into a wall or tree. But it has been since the playstation 1 days that i have seen a game thet would currupt a save file and ruin hours of game time. You should be proud by outsourcing to (Edge or Reality) you have shown that you don't care about your game as long as you save a buck. and by not making them FIX their mistake it looks VERY bad on you. Michael have you spent any time reading this fourm.  and seen the thousands of hours lost? The time spent dedicated to a game people love. A world people can become lost in. A world crerated by BioWare.
Is anger and rage of people who have lost countless hours is of any import? I'm not saying the chairman of BioWare ought to come on here and write a heart felt apology but common man. 4 months of people griping about this glitch. People loosing thousands of hours. and now there is a small 2 line post of "we're looking at this issue" gee for some reason i just don't expect to turn on my xbox tomorrow or the next day or the next week and see a patch that fixes this. I am shure my words will fall apon deaf ears (or eyes in this case) but for once i'de like to see a company that creates WORLDS from nothing more than imagination show it cares about the people who buy their creation. Common Don't drop the ball on this. it isn't like we can't dl a patch. this isn't the old super nes days. you have the tools to fix this problem. You know what it is. People have even written about exactly how to create this problem. You know the source of this.
If you hired me to put a new roof on your house and the first time it rained it leaked. Would you be mad? How mad would you be it it toom me 4 Months to accknollege there was a problem. How mad would you be if the only thing i told you was I'll look into this issue and add it to my muxt fix list?

Guys, the thing that's causing the corruption is something you would almost never suspect... It's an Item called Mabari Crunch, the reason people think its because of the crystal glitch is (this is what I think) the shopkeeper gives you free stuff in this so people buy everything including the mabari crunch that's in there. I had a couple of these before I learned of the glitch then started trying to find the cause. I have kept that item out of my inventory (destroying with extreme prejudice if I find one especially since they seem to come out of nowhere sometimes) when i found out about infinite crystals I tried it on a just for fun character and went in and out about 100 times with no corruption. Hope this helps and Isn't just some freak coincidence :).

Guys, in fairness to Mr. Lang, let's give him a shot to get something done here. Is'nt this what we've all been begging (****ing) for, A Dev to come into our Tech forum and give us some responses?

Well, he's here and I for one will not be giving him any grief for trying to help us. I am actually ecstatic that we got some responses today, good responses. Have faith and give the man a chance.

So if you're looking into it, should we hold on to these saves because you may be able to fix them, or are these characters lost?  I was on playthrough 4 and about to walk into Denerim to make my way to the Archdemon when my save died....was about to get my last pre-expansion achievement too.

My game froze during a game load, and after re-starting my xbox, two of my DLC's where missing. The DLC's (Embris Many Pockets and Amulet of the War Mage) were freebees and no great loss but No game save across all of my multiple playthroughs will load without them! W.T.F This is a game breaker for me .

I agree dude, this may not evolve into us getting any fixes but for the time being I am definitely optimistic.

Here's hoping Mr. Lang can come through for us. (they really need a "cheers" icon)

Late as it may have come, big kudos to Michael Lang for having the common courtesy of letting us know the problem is at least being addressed. This is the type of roll up your sleeves attitude that most players would like to expect from developers who deliver a faulty product, as opposed to silent treatment by so called "community facilitators".

I know how obnoxious people can be in this forum *casts the first stone* but a simple, to the point reply that takes less than two minutes is all it takes to prevent resentment from a community that is passionate about the product.

This is exactly what I wanted to know.  is it worth saving my corrupted files in the hopes that can be repaired?  or should we just accept that they are gone?

For me, *every* time I return to camp, I get a Mabari Crunch in my inventory, which I will sell to Bodahn. I don't know how that is in any way relevant because I've never encountered this corrupted savegame glitch (maybe because I only sell somewhat-unique items to Bodahn out of sentimentality...and I hate trudging through junk just to see if there's something useful my party members can equip).

Yea so just adding to the list. Lost all my saves with the corrupted file message popping up. Had no problems until I downloaded the expansion. This is ridiculous. They promise an expansion and instead I lose all the tIme I put into the original game. Get it fixed quick fellas, people are not happy.

I have been working on finding a way to prevent this for the past two days, and so far I haven't been able to get the corrupt characters back, but I have been succesful in finding a way to prevent this.

To prevent it, you must go into the settings and turn off auto-saves.

You can still use the infinite crystals glitch.

And now I've lost my save game too thanks to this bug that i didn't know existed. I had gotta most of the way through the game, had done nearly every quest, gotten every item and so on, and to top it off not a single one of my chars had an injury as I was going for the achievement i saw mentioned on the forums for completing the game without being injured.

Bioware, you officially fail...

This just happened to me in the expansion for the first time, did not use the crystal glitch.

I was able to load the auto-save thankfully and then made a new save file in a new slot. This new save works and the other does not.

I started getting corrupted saves on Friday - mainly doors not working anymore when returning to the save. If I used the auto save i was able to continue on (I'm in the Sloth demon right now). Today I was playing and now all my saves are corrupted to the point where I am now locked out of the game. Just before that happened I realised that no matter what I was doing, spells or weapons I was using, none of them where working so I was continually dying. I had been creating a new save file every time I actually managed to move forward in the game, none of them worked.

I have not used any of the glitches (just found out about them from this forum), but I have downloaded and completed the expansions. However that was hours ago.

This is so frustrating, is it even worth starting over if this is going to continue to happen? I love the game but am very disappointed -  this is a major problem and there needs to be a fix for it.

I agree, the game is awesome but if our hard work is going to be ruined like this it begs the question "Why bother?"

It may have something to do with the fade, that area is very buggy. Every time I do that part I just rush through, best not to save it and quit in there, should do the whole thing before saving. Not sure if the bugs start when loading a save in the fade but a lot of people have had problems in there.

Good point, this is the second time I have started the game and last time I had one issue of a corrupted save in the fade, managed to get past it and finish that section of the game. However, I think I'm screwed now as all my saves seem to be corrupted. I do have one that takes me back to Denerim, maybe I need to just bite the bullet and go back hours and hours of game play - sigh..........

No.....NOOOOOO! Just no....

I'm afraid you could not be more incorrect if you tried. This problem has been documented, tested, retested, and pinpointed with great detail by the Dragon Age community. (lavafrog22 credit due.) Don't bother trying anymore ok?

It's very simple. On the consoles, the size of the save game file is set in stone. Vendor inventories are allocated a very specific amount of space in said file. Vendors DO NOT destroy anything you sell to them in this game, they keep everything and offer it back to you for sale. Put simply if you sell too many items to a merchant (meaning overload the merchants slots), it has nothing to do with what you sell him/her, the inventory gets overloaded and the file corrupts. The max number of items was determined to be 548. Sell a merchant one more than that and kaboom!

Edit: See page 10 of this thread if you want to see the detailed testing lavafrog22 did.
