I think the easy solution for a patch would be to simply make the merchants purge their inventory once you leave the zone. I mean how often do you really go buy back the junk you sell anyways, most of it is generic armor/weapons that never get used or useless items.
I disagree, I almost wasn't able to complete a quest cos I didn't know I would need garnets at any point and I had to travel across all of Fereldan to find the merchant i'd sold them to. I like that they don't destroy stuff, I would say that instead a merchant should not allow you to sell any more items to them once you've reached the limit, that would solve that particular glitch right off the bat.

Hey all,
We are defiantly looking at this issue, especially since a lot of people have lost some good hours to this crash. This issue has been added to our must-fix pile.
Roughly two weeks without further updates. I'm not sure if this vague response with no follow-up is a significant improvement on no response at all.
Here's a situation where you have hundreds of posts documenting a serious game bug (in some detail, thanks to some observant customers), and four months after the problem was reported, EA/Bioware has taken no action to resolve the problem.

I'm not expecting a hot fix. I'm expecting some "miracle patch" like a month or so from now that patches some of the MAJOR apparent issues. I mean they have a "fix pile".

A timeline or update on a patch would be a start, but I'm guessing that by the time this game is actually fixed most people will have traded it in and moved on, or the patch will only fix the expansion.
I've lost the small glimmer of hope that I had a few weeks ago now....*sigh*

Hey guys i am 10 hours in the game yet, i like a lot the game so far; i am afraid of play a lot of hours and get the corrupted files, do you recomend me to get the PS3 version,? does that one get the same bugs??, I was going to get it in PC last week when it was very cheap but i dont know if my pc would hold up, so the ps3 is maybe the way to go (i would do all the origins stories in 360 for the achievements)
I would stay the course. I've not encountered this problem so I have limited knowledge on it. From what I have read though, you should do a few things.
1) Save early and often, multiple spots in case 1 save gets corrupted.
2) Read what the save file says. I know more than once I went to save and instead of saying someting like "Ostagar etc." it just showed up as random numbers "123344546532312". When this happens I cancel the save attempt and try again. 2nd time it shows up as it should with your location etc.
3) Do not use the Crystal bug to make money. Many people have reported this as a potential problem causing the corrupted saves. Atleast it seems to increase the odds of it happening. Money can be made in other ways.

It seems to me that the good folks at BioWare spent many hours thinking about / designing / developing this game. So I ask, with that much thought and effort put into this game how could this bug have been missed by their QA? The most basic of testing would have caught this bug. QA is designed to to see what happens at the edges. So, while they may deny it, BioWare knew about this bug when the software was released. I bet Marketing made the call to push the product. I just don't believe Marking was told how devastating this bug is. BioWare this bug is a SHOW STOPPER, GAME KILLER, GAME OVER type bug.
So, shame on QA for not taking a stand on a bug that, get this, CORRUPTS "save" files. If you want to see who not to hire for your next QA efforts run the Credits.

Yup. QA isn't about seeing what most commonly happens.
In my case, I was centralizing my sold goods to one merchant, in case I wanted to buy anything back later (e.g. goods like gems for the ambassadors at your camp). It managed to render a large number of my saves unplayable, so the "save often" advice given about is not useful.

I'm highly disappointed that a solution to this problem hasn't been found yet.
