TBH it's ridiculous that this is still outstanding. The problem has been outlined in this post many times, how hard would a quick fix be to code the merchants to purge older items or just not take any more if their inventory was full.

The new feast day downloads are causing this bug I assume as they add items to merchants and thus can overload them.
I've just started playing through and am making sure to go to different merchants as much as possible, I'm really hoping that this prevents this bug.

As people have stated, for such a huge game breaking bug, this is something that should have been fixed long ago and should have been tracked down by the programmers and not left to the public to detail the actual bug cause.
There are many bugs in this game and the fixes are slow to come, but something as big as this, that is affecting bioware's reputation, should have been top of the list and should not still be present 6 months down the line.

The sad part is, sassperella, that the Feast Day Pack doesn't actually cause this bug - this bug has been going on for the better part of 7 months now. The Feast Day Pack just makes the bug much more likely to occur.

Hey folks, I don't know if anyone else has done this before, but I've emailed the editor and sub-editor of Kotaku, alerting them to this matter. I hope that this gets some attention in the gaming media, because something must be done. Here is a copy of the message:

Hi Brian and Stephen

Please believe me when I say that I'm sending you this email as a kind of last resort attempt at getting this issue addressed - an issue which has been going on for (allegedly) the better part of 7 MONTHS, virtually since DAOs release on the Xbox 360. I cannot believe that this has not been reported in the mainstream media, so I thought I would alert you and your team.

My story: I bought DAO in December, and played throughout Dec till about mid-Jan. I took a break from it, and as of last week's 360 update, and the most recent DAO update, I've lost ALL of my saves. Every single ONE. I checked my HDD. Repeatedly. I've checked my game. Repeatedly. Over 40 hours of game-time down the drain, and I haven't even finished it! For an RPG, which is all about precious time investment, this is ludicrous! For a Bioware title, it's even worse. We've come to expect some amazing things from the developer, but I fear with this one they've dropped the ball. And it's been happening since day one!! How can they get away with this? They're essentially selling a broken product, and consumers are fed up:

http://social.biowar.../index/247529/1

Read the first and last page of that thread - people have been posting there for months, and some have gone as far as to contact EA Tech Support, which directs them back to the forums - where nothing happens.

I implore you to shed some light on the matter, and to help those of us who are still keen on playing this wonderful game to actually get the dev teams responsible to patch it and make it playable, at the very least - we payed damn good money for it!

With thanks and regards,

xxxx (aka EyeGod, Xbox 360 tag)

I urge you all to do something similar - send it to people in the gaming media. Maybe when someone is named and shamed for this oversight, something will finally be done!

I actually contacted Penny Arcade folks about this and stated how irked I was that they were doing comics and such for Dragon Age when they usually state they won't stand by a shoddy product. Chances are they played the PC versions and didn't have to deal with all the major bugs we do.

Well I have to say that I lost all my saved games during my last quest. 125+ hours, all lost. I'm using a PC, not the Xbox.
They don't even appear in the LOAD GAME section.

I did not have this issue until AFTER I'd downloaded the Feastday pack, and only after the point in the saved games for my character which were saved after I'd done that, so fortunately that was late in the game and I could play through on Casual to complete the game (without saving). It's not much of a workaround, I'm sorry to say.

Hope this gets fixed soon!

I doubt we'll get a fix for it. My best advice is just to move onto a different game. I also hear awakening is full of bugs they won't fix. I wouldn't know cause I refuse to buy it until they fix origins. But knowing these ****in jerks they never will fix it. It should not take over 7 months while this glitch is ****ing people's profiles DAILY. Dragonage is a GREAT game, its just a shame the makers don't give 2 ****s about their customers. Because of this I don't think i'll ever buy another bioware game again.

I still haven't heard a word from the editors of Kotaku. Or seen a thing about this on the site :|

Who else is there worth emailing in your opinions? Guys like Gamespot, IGN, Gamespy? N4G!? Does anyone even care?

This is such a joke - I can't believe it TBH.

We'll probably see one; it just may be too late to undo the damage to consumer confidence. I'll be pleased to see significant bugs addressed, but I'm not sure I will ever pre-order a BioWare product again.

Hey Folks,
God, I'd would love to give you all a firm patch date with a complete list of what's going to be in it. Fact is, I just can't. We are certainly working on one, but unfortunately for consoles it takes longer than for PC. The patch we put out next has to be something that addresses a lot if not all of the issues that we notice here, that our community finds, and yet still adds those little tweaks that optimizes the game. We haven't forgotten about consoles and we are working hard to get you a awesome, fan friendly, user loving patch so that you can enjoy the game the way it was meant to be be played. All I can do is stress patience, we are working on it, it is coming.

One thing you might try is loading your last good save.  Then visit Bodahn and purchase all the items provided by the Feastday pack (24?).  I haven't downloaded this pack, but I assume these gifts and pranks are cheap just like the other gifts.  This would get his inventory back to its previous level and any save from now on should be good, as long as you don't sell him anything else.  Not a fix, but you could at least save later in the game if desired.

The items in Bodahn's inventory reset after purchase. They "respawn" so to speak. That won't fix it.

mine came up when I was in the Elven Alienage, at 39hrs. I was entering the orphange, and did the mission and as I left, I was transported back into the alienage. yes I did use the glitch, but only 6 times. I used it on my current game, avoided the orphange, had no issues. So could the bug have something to do with that. Because I would try and talk to the crazy elf outside and got nothing from her, tried to highlight the dogs, and could only get the blood splotch. In a way it turned out for the better, because my hot elven female archer is just massacring darkspawn with her Master Wade bow in Awakening.

That figures.  I guess you would have to purchase other "weighted" items from him then to get his inventory back to a good level.  Could be simple if he's only a couple items over, or could be a pain if you need to purchase 24 since money is scarce.

Still can't believe they haven't patched this.  Guess this thread needed to be 100 pages, or it's simply being delayed so fixes will only be included in a GOTY edition.... Please buy our game a second time so you can see how it was really meant to be played.  $$$$$$.

Today this "glitch" happened to me for the second time, approximately 80hrs played combined , so I made my way here. I was very suprised to find this thread as I didnt realize so many people were having the same problem! I was about to purchase awakenings tommorrow too (sigh). I sent a email to tech support so I hope for a reply. I wonder though, even if we do get a patch/fix, can you reverse the data that is already corrupted? Or are our chars gone forever? =(

I would imagine that if it is the merchant overloading, that data is being overwritten in the save and corrupting it. If that is the case, chances are that they won't be able to fix already corrupted saves easily if at all.

There most likely won't be any way to recover the corrupted saves, pretty sure the data is useless once it gets corrupted. The fact that six months later we have no fixes for ANY of the bugs just goes to show that EA is calling the shots, and they only care about money, not supporting their games once they're sold.

I have been waiting for any type of fix for six months, but still we get the generic "we're looking into it" line that we're heard before that gave us nothing. They haven't even given the consoles the same fixes as the pc version and I'm guessing we will never see a patch, or it will be too little, too late. They could even do something small for this bug, such as a merchant refusing to buy more goods once his inventory is full, or have them purge their inventory when the player leaves the zone.

I am absolutely NOT buying Awakenings (which I have been desperate to buy, by the way) until this is fixed.

I wanted to play Origins again with a new character (it'll be my 3rd completion.. I've spent more than 140 hours on DAO XBox360) and then choose my fave for Awakenings, but I'm suffering this corrupted save problem..

After the frustration finally getting to me I decided to research the issue and apparently it's quite common.

If this doesn't get fixed, I'm not spending another cent on any EA game. This is/was too good a game for BioWare/EA to abandon.

Seems like it's time to write a series of complaining posts on popular forums.. gotta try something to get their attention. They've had long enough and SO many of us have lost too many hours. BioWare and EA need to decide to fix this, and soon.. or they can say goodbye to their portion of the $1500-$3000 I spend on games each year.

I played through both dao and awakenings making sure I sold to different vendors and had no problems. From what people have said this will prevent the bug as long as you don't sell the 500+ (can't remember the exact figure) to any one vendor.

Thank God I finished the game before this popped up. I didn't use crystal glitch but did do all 3 DLC. I did buy feast items and sold a few things to Bodham in camp (as usual) to make room. Went to WK first and saved there. The next day I tried to load and it was corrupted and when I loaded last good save and tried to save again-damaged. Have figured out the exact cause of this mess yet? I only sold like 8 items before problem, so this seems like a longshot. I vote for DLC, but which? All?

Spreading out your selling between as many vendors as possible helps, also be careful not to overload you item chest at Warden's peak I think it's the same amount as vendors to do that. Pretty sure the numer is 548 to overload the merchants, not 100% sure though, but spreading out the sales should be enough to avoid this bug at least.
