Just adding my name to the list of ppl experiencing this bug, with no help from EA/Bioware.

How hard can fixing this bug be?? It's caused by vendor overloading. Just code in that after a vendor has a certain amount of items, the oldest start dropping out of the inventory.

I also suffered from save file corruption today. Over 50+ hours into my second play through, so maybe not as bad as some others here. But still, I'm missing out on a few achievements, and quite bitter to have Dragon Age end this way for me, for an otherwise excellent game. The worst part is, I doubt I'll ever play through it a third time, not if this is going to possibly happen again.

Second game breaking glitch to happen to me this year in an RPG... I'm lucky, eh? ;)

Hmm,

So, I took advantage of the crystal glitch last night. The internet was down so I was not constantly updating info to EA. Throughout the 200 gp haul, I took frequent breaks (often completly turning off my xbox). Before each break I would save to one of the 4 rotating save spots (2 on my HD and 2 on my 64MB mem card) I was using for this experiment. Last night the only hints I saw at a glitch was that the Vendor I was selling to wiped his entire inventory. Regardless of this oddity I was still able to reload all of my save files.

So, what finnally corropted my save files..

About an hour ago, I logged into xbox live and allowed EA to upload my character to see if that was really the trigger for the file corruption. After allowing EA to upload my info, ALL of my files that had the overloaded merchant went corrupt.

Conclusion...

Although the overloaded merchants signified a possible problem with the save file, I did not get a completely corrupted save file until EA attempted to verify the file data.

If you have time on your hands, I encourage you to try out this little experiment for yourself. After all, more experimental runs might yield more conclusive data.

Edit:
Ive noticed that the camp vendor seems to refresh his inventory after major plot events.  If you have to drop a load of items on a vendor, it might be a good idea to get rid of some of it before the plot event so as you will have some free room after the event.

Some of my save files are corrupt to. I also use several save slots just in case something like this happens. I also noticed that most of the corrupt saves were saves from right after I sold stuff to the Camp merchant (Bodahn). I sell my stuff to Levi Dreyden (Soldiers Peak) now... so far, I have not had a corrupt save since... but I hold my breath. ;)

Okay over 50 hours in haven't even been able to complete the game I saved and quit after the landsmeed to eat dinner went to go back to play to my surprised the top 6 saves of my 10 manual saves wont load along with the autosave. Leaving my last loadable save all the way to the beginning of denerim and frankly I don't want to play I'm so pissed why did EA have to buy out bioware I knew the company would go downhill shortly after I heard that. Not looking forward to Mass Effect 2 right now who knows what kind of crap we will have to put up with for that!

Here's my experience..

1) Travelled to Brecillian Forest

2) Did some side-quests + take on the main quest

3) Bought some wares from Varathorn

4) Travelled to Soldier's Peak

5) Stored items in the party storage chest

6) Save file corrupt when loading

Now i do have an explanation for my mishap.

I did a few experiment on my saves. Found out it was a Mabari Crunch that was the source. Moved to Junk and destroyed it. Put some other things into the chest. Save and reload. Worked.

That surmises my unfortunate event. Don't know the origin of the Mabari Crunch, though i suspect its from Varathorn. Nice time sharing. ;D

This is the reply I got from EA after 30 days:

Hello,

Thank you for writing back Electronic Arts Customer Support.

I suggest you that it is not possible to get back the corrupt files in a same manner.Generally Game save files get corrupt if you eject the disk without properly exiting the game. Please make sure that you exit the game properly on all occasions, also make sure that you save your game after short intervals, so you can try to start from a previous save if something like this happens again.

There is no way to make sure that game save files never get corrupt, however this is not a recurring.

Thank you,

Phillip

I fell victim as well. I saved just after the landsmeet and when I came back to play, all the saves were corrupt. I do not know the money glitch, I just play, but I will be boycotting ME2 if this issue isn't fixed by the release. Our hard earned dollar is our biggest voice.

You should absolutely call BS on this.  The evidence presented in this thread is overwhelming, and the problem IS recurring.  The corruption can be duplicated any time the developers wish to do so.  The statements made by the tech support  personel were most likely canned responses designed to stall inquiry and alay fears (no matter how justified).  The person probably has no clue about the actual problem, and no information to give regarding a fix.  Just be patient.

Its great to know that the hole I put in my wall from throwing my controller was not unfounded...childish but not unfounded! I had put 40+ hours in to this game and EVERY file was corrupted(8+). I did unintentionally get the crystals twice, not my fault a hot redhead wants to give me free items...I havent been connected to the internet or the bioware forums while playing so it isnt "punishment" as some have suggested for using the glitch. There is no way for them to have known I "misused" it. Not to mention it happens to others who havent even gotten to redcliffe. VERY DISSAPPOINTING. That is the type of glitch that can literally kill a company's reputation, especially with no help or comments as to how to fix it. Seeing as how I purchased the game from a store that will allow me to return it full cash back since it truley does not work, i plan on doing so and purchasing another game that will not make me worried I am wasting my time away before I can finish it. I would suggest that others do the same thing...when Bioware starts seeing that retailers of the game are returing them to the manufacturer because "game doesnt work" they might decide to help us out.

just experienced this, managed to go back and find a working save, but i have to redo ALL of redcliffe again.  I think it migh have smoething to do with the merchants bring overloaded?  Since the beginning of the game I've been dumping off stuff in the camp.. he's loaded.  Reading a few other replies, it seems alot of people have been experiencing this issues after selling off good... maybe thats it?

I think I figured it out, it's a combination of Stone Keeper DLC plus Vendor Overloading...

Once you leave an area and come back after selling all your ****, with the stone keeper DLC the vendors keep everything, this is what's causing the problem, vender overloading... but if you don't have the stone keeper DLC, vendors won't keep your ****, I've tested it numerous times on vendors in Denerim, the camp though, he keeps your **** and resells it back, but everywhere else no, only with the stone keeper DLC do vendors keep your ****.

I agree on that observation. Althought I still think it should be EA's/BioWare's responsibility to fix this annoying glitch. Gamers shouldn't have to wonder whether or not their save games will be randomly damaged. I haven't experienced nothing similar since I've enjoyed BioWare's earlier products.

I also experienced damaged save game files after getting/selling crystals the second time in Redcliffe. I managed to continue my game unharmed from one particular save, but... now my game experience is seriously damaged while waiting the problem reoccurs and ruins my progress with my favourite character (mage).

EA/BioWare: Your games are just great and I've been your customer for over 10 years (PC, XBOX and XBOX360). So hear my plea: Please don't ruin our game experience by not patching this damaged save game problem for Xbox360. I'm itching to play DAO, but now my stomach turns over every time I save/load.

Okay I was incorrect, merchants / vendors still keep your items even with the stone keeper DLC not installed... they only refresh when the merchants decide to restock, I was just getting unlucky and they kept restocking.

So it's

a) overloading of vendors, with stone keeper DLC installed (someone must test with stone keeper as I can not)
B) stone keeper dlc itself

I do not think its overloading of vendors with out stone keeper dlc installed, as I just dumped close to 200+ items on the camp merchant, by dumping 90 items, went to go buy 90 more items, unequipped all of my armor, sold.

So Brohdan had 200+ items on him, saved, came back, no corruption.

Tried it on Gorim in Denerim as well, saved, no corruption.

I even left the areas, came back, and they still had the items.

All this with out the stone keeper DLC installed.

I highly suggest uninstalled stone keeper dlc, and play the game start to finish with out it.

This is what I did, and didn't get any corrupted files whatso ever.

I've even checked most of the xbox gamer tags of people who got corrupt saves, and those who didn't. Every single person who had a corrupt save, played with the stone keeper dlc installed. I didn't see one person with a corrupt save that hadn't done the stone keeper dlc.

This is just a theory, and not at all conclusive as with most experiments, as I would have to find some people who did get corrupt saves with out stone keeper dlc installed, which I have yet to find.

I think that the Stone Keeper DLC is the dang problem, i played through the game one time in 55 hours 51 minutes, and no problems occured. I then started over and played for about 30+ hours, then i remebered i had the redeem code for the stone keeper DLC, so i downloaded it, well right after my first play with the stone keeper dlc installed my file got corrupted, this has to be the problem, IT HAS TO BE. Man I have never been sp pissed in my entire life. If anybody got their save file corrupted without having the stone keeper DLC installed, please tell me, because this is my conclusion for now and im sticking to it. By the way, I love Bioware, every single one of their games rock hard. and mass effect is the best. just a side note.

It has to be item overload in any one specific place, i did completed a game save with my elf and i only stored named items and destroyed everything else. NO CORRUPTION

In my second play through I made a human warrior and stored every item i came across in the game and bought out all of the merchants and stored in the wardens chest then BAMF my first corruption. It has to be a memory issue.

So should i just not sell my Shiit to the merchants, cuz i use the gold cheat anyway, and have no need to sell stuff, my file was corrupted literally right after i downloaded the stone keeper, saved, then turned off, and tried to load....

There is a 'bug?' where whenever you go to camp, a crunch spawns in your inventory.  It's a royal pita if you don't use the dog 'cause you have to take the time to unload it somehow but that might be where you got it, if you stopped by camp at some point.

There is a profanity filter for a reason, and it's not to see if you can best it.  Beating the filter can get you banned on many forums.

I have expirimented a bit and any time I enter the Smithy at Redcliffe even if I dont talk to him or sell/purchase anything, immediately after exiting, I will save, then load and get the error. Then I am able to successfully load my saved game created just before entering the smithy... but to no avail because it will inevitably occur again after several more hours of gameplay...but at least thats ONE specific trigger. Cheers.

The DLC may have a code issue which causes the problem, but the issue itself comes from overloading merchants. You can play the game without corruption issues with all the DLC if you spread your sold-items among multiple merchants. So by downloading the DLC, if you'd been overloading merchants, you may have triggered the effect.

As for the need to make note of how much you love BIOware and EA in a thread where people are feeling spurned by them, while I appreciate your right to your opinion, I don't think it was necessary to make that comment, though based on your posts...

Anyway, this is a severe bug which can destroy hours of investment into their product and they've given 0 support or feedback on this. I used to love BIOware, EA was okay though it seems like they take destroying games as a personal challenge sometimes. However the severity of this bug and their total lack of feedback has spurned many of us and I'm extremely hesitant to get Mass Effect 2 right now, and that's saying a lot as I've beaten ME1 like 5 times, and it's rare I give a game a second playthrough, nevermind 5.

So while I respect your right to your opinion and your right to post it as long as it is within forum guidelines, maybe this isn't the best thread to post how much you love two companies that have taken your money, given you a faulty product, and then get no support from said companies.

As a side note, if anyone wants to return the game, I suggest trying it and see if the game store will give you your full money back as the product is faulty. If they're insensetive and refuse to give you your money back, see if EA or BIOware is willing to take the game back and compensate you, if not contact your card company and dispute the charges. Just explain the software you purchased is faulty, you persued support from the manufacturer who gave you no solutions to solve the problem, you then tried to return the software and the store you purcahsed it from refused to refund your money for it and the manufacturer also won't work out a resolution with you.

Not sure if it'll work, but a company can't sell you a faulty product and have 0 liability for it. Plus, if anyone does in fact do this and they start having to reimburse people for it, maybe they'll man up and start taking more responsibility for their products.

Hell, go to the BBB website and post a complaint there that they're selling faulty products and not offering support.

EDIT: This thread here has someone receiving the issue WITHOUT the DLC.  So it's not the DLC.

Sorry for the spam but wanted to give an update:

I've played multiple characters since my completion with the rogue (not all the way to the end, but pretty deep into the game) and have not had a repeat incident of corrupted files. I've always made sure to spread out what I sell and have even used the gold exploit (though not the crystal exploit) and no issues at all.

I completely agree despite my whining about this issue...Bioware's games have been incredible and I appreciate the attention to detail and story when it comes to your games. I can also understand there being bugs, it's completely expected with complex games such as DAO...HOWEVER that being said, it's nevertheless dissapointing that three months after this has been an issue there is YET to be a patch or even a reassurance that a solution is being worked on for the console versions...the evidence and frustration of fans and consumers is obvious...and we are only a fraction of the people expiriencing the problem...most people don't voice their frustrations on forums such as this. Please fix, if the game sucked I'm no one would really care to complain, and infact  would be happy for such a legitimate reason to return it for a refund...obviously for most that's NOT the case, we WANT to play this game, it's fun and the story is enthralling, hence our building impatience.
