So, um, its really great and all that those poor unfortunate souls who got their little XBox status thingies all messed up due to bugs will have them all fixed and stuff. I'm really thrilled about that.
But, um, what about the rest of us who CAN'T FINISH THE GAME DUE TO CORRUPTED SAVES??
Is that gonna be in the patch? Just wonderin...

Never did the infinite crystal glitch.
Although you don't use the glitch this is active if you send the own of the tavern in Redcliff to the fight and Bella gets its with the Prisioners DLC downloaded. Do you remember if you did that?

Seems they do not care about the bugs breaking this game. It took them months to fix a small issue with achievements hah.

It just happened to me after I finished Return to Ostagar. I really really hope Bioware fixes this. I love the game, and they haven't let me down yet, but I've invested over 70 hours in this character and I was just about to go to the Landsmeet, and now all three of his saves are damaged.
Please fix this, Bioware. Please.

Great...I didn't know this was a glitch and just thought I would be using my own ingenuity to grab some coin. I only made 40 gold however, am I doomed?

I'm not sure if using a glitch is actually related to the damaged save files. Plenty of people here seem to not have used any glitches or exploits that they know of, and they're still getting damaged saves.

48 hours on my character for this to happen to me. I lost 1 save 46 hours in (had another save 3 hours before doing the money glitch, I thought it was harmless, and I found it on my own, I didn't figure it would have such ****ty coding that it would **** up save states) so I saved 6+ times because I thought it was just the one save, now all my saves are gone and the last save is only at about 18 hours.
Glad to see I wasn't alone though. Pretty pissed as well, especially since I was going to get the RTO but they pulled that as well.

Same problem here.I have lost 6 savegames with 60+ hours of gaming. I haven´t done the crystals glitch. It has to be something related to the game, cause if you check your saves through the console interface, they are not corrupted. It is a shame such a great game has this gamebreaking bug;please, Bioware, FIX IT now!!!!!!!

I experienced this bug two days ago. It fixed itself though so now I am
happily playing again. Just make sure you have tons of saves. I even
reached the max.

Even without the crystals glitch, if you see to one merchant often enough, you get screwed.

I experienced this major bug (bug is too small a word to call this problem) for the first time after I did 100 gold with the crystal glitch. I sold most of the crystals to Redcliffe Village's own blacksmith and some of them in the party camp. Somehow I managed to get rid of the problem by saving 5-6 times every single save, for some time. Circle tower and The Fade went without problem, 'twas (Morrigan's blazin' hot!) even enough to save only once a time. And then the bug surprised me like a once won cancer. The second time hit me like a hockey player's sock yesterday when I returned from the circle tower to save Arl Eamon's obsessed boy by entering The Fade with my mage.
And now nothing works. When I try to move on in the game, one corrupted save game (can be an auto save!) corrupts several others like a highly contagious virus. My main character fades away as the healthy save games grow thin. And he's THE character I really want to play, I managed to raise a killer mage, despite the fact he's only level 12. Even a revenant wasn't too much to handle.
I'm too old for this ***t. And very angry slash frustrated!

Maybe these corruptions are due to these hacks everyone seems to be using? or rather exploits? im not btw - im a purist.
Im new to the console , I was solely a pc dude, but recently ventured into xbox 360 territory - use my pc now for statistical analysis on global warming or the odd decent strategy game.
I have bought all bioware dungeon n dragon titles - baldurs gate 1 / 2 and the tales of the sword coast expansion. I wish I had got this on the pc as opposed to console now , I really dont like the perspecive view on the 360 version , why can we zoom out? - and why dosent this have multiplayer? - it seems so restrictive in comparison to past bioware titles of this nature. - or maybe i'm just too old and set in my ways? maybe this new way of doing things does work and I just need to adjust ? - i'm thinking perhaps yes...
Thats all - i think I have voiced all that needs to be said from my perspective , but im sure bioware will release a fix for whatever "genuine" problems that exist. They did in baldurs gate afterall. - Was there not a money cheat in that until it was patched?? and hidden rings etc at co - ordinates x , y , and z??
Rant over - Im assuming these patches that bioware is duty bound to keep - if at all, come true - they have in the past on the pc - so im not negative - but are these errors guys / girl are having due to this infinite gold walk around? if so cant you guys play the game as intended? its not suppose to be easy afterall.....

Read the topic. Numerous reports of the glitch occurring without any use of the "infinite crystals" exploit. If the bug is indeed related to overloading vendors, then the money exploit probably facilitates the bug and makes it more likely to happen, since you are creating a large number of items and often dumping them onto a single merchant. However, the exploit is certainly not required in order for the corrupted saves glitch to occur.

Just signed up to throw my woes in with the rest of you all (as if it meant something...). I'm one hundred hours in and just had my first save corrupted. Following some sound advice on this forum, I've deleted the offending save and made multiple copies of my most recent "pure" save, loading each to check for validity and only saving new copies from the previous copy, as opposed to multiples of the same original. Will it make any kind of difference? I can only hope. Save often (but not too often), in different files every time and load each time to make sure it works. To those who have lost all saves... I'm truly sorry.
I'm still waiting for Bethesda to respond to (or even fix; ha) the vampire bug in Oblivion; Is it just me or do game companies have some of the worst customer service in retail?
As a quick side note directed specifically to Sir dude of kent: Please relax. As a PC gamer surely you understand that emotions are nearly impossible to discern in text from short, simple comments like "read the topic" (which did clearly indicate that this bug has occurred irregardless of exploits... so if you read it, why ignore it?). The posters of this forum have enough problems without turning their frustrations on each other.

I hadn't done any exploits whatsoever and experienced this glitch with one of the autosaves. Had already cleaned out the brecilian forest but returned to see if there were any corpse galls in the werewolf lair. Surprisingly, I ran into some darkspawn - I'd returned to this area before after having completed the werewolf quest and never saw darkspawn here. Anyway I got whooped. Luckily I had done a quick save but was disappointed when I tried to reload it.
However, I had done a save a half hour to this and had given it a unique name. This save worked. None of the autosaves or quicksaves worked. So this is clearly a glitch in the quicksave/autosave function.

Quite a few people have experienced this glitch in their regular saves, as well as autosaves. A few people (myself included) have noticed the save made after the "Dead Drop" quest is accepted (Favours for Certain Interested Parties questline) becomes corrupted. There's a note on the wiki about it. I unfortunately did not take it seriously...

As I have said in my previous post, I have lost all my 6 savegames. It has nothing to do with saves or autosaves, all get corrupted. In fact, this major bug has a totally random behaviour: in my case, appeared early in the game (30 hours), disappeared ( I continued playing saving in other slots for 30 hours without any corruption)..... and appeared again only to corupt all my save files like a curse, losing 60+hours of gaming. No doubt, this great game has a BIG problem and nobody says a word.....may The Maker be with us....

Just happened to me.
Repro:
Traveled from Denerim to Redcliff
Left Redcliff to go to camp
Sold some items to dwarves
Bought some runes
Saved.
Left camp to Circle Tower
Had a fight midway, lost.
Ok, revert to last save (autosave before fight) ... pfft. wrong. Corrupt. WTF?
Ok, revert to last manual save....pffft... wrong again. Corrupt.
Not sure what the issue is, either Redcliff, or item sales, but I kept a good 8 or so saves, so I went back to an earlier one (6 hours back) and it loaded up.
When i first loaded the game, it was fine. so something i did in that hour corrupted the save.
Awesome game, but I think ill stop playing for a while till the next patch. No reason to play a 40-60 hour game if you cant save your progress.

Ran into the same issue myself. Did the "infinite crystals" glitch so I'm sure that's something to do with it, but if it's true that it's more to do with repeated visits to a single merchant, than this issue is far worse than just a problem for those using an exploit. This needs to be addressed. At this point I just want to throw my disc out the window.

I had the "corrupt save" at about 42 hours in. The last file that was usable before that was at 30 hours.
After replaying from that location multiple times and coming up with corrupt saves every time, I decided to try loading after every time I saved the game, making as many new saves as I could. I realized that every time I revisit Redcliff, my next save becomes corrupt. It does not matter where I go before, what quests I get finished, or where I go to save after visiting Redcliff, I get the same corrupt message every time. I have tried installing and uninstalling the game on my 360 as well as deleting all saves but the last good one, and nothing has worked yet. I am now getting to the point where the only place left to go is to see the Arl in Redcliff to move one to the Lands Meet.
Has anyone else figured a way past this problem without having to start their character from scratch?

I surely have no definitive answer on this but like every else has pointed out so far there seems to be a connection between potentially overloading a vendor's stock with items and the Redcliff area. Perhaps the two are related, perhaps they are not. Definitely does seem so as many of the people with the problem clearly overloaded the blacksmith in Redcliff with crystals...
What I have noticed is that the size of the save file is capped and is ALWAYS 17MB. Since vendors appear to store EVERYTHING you sell to them I can see where this might cause a problem... Maybe that is causing the corruption.
I have a suggestion for a fix since I have yet to see anyone try this. Here's the thing. For those of you that overloaded the blacksmith in Redcliff with crystals you obviously have no qualms about, shall we say, manipulating the game to your advantage??? If you do a bit of searching on the net, you'll find out that there's another way of obtaining gold on the Xbox (a much more efficient way indeed) that doesn't involve dumping crystals. A little button trick with the junk file and a vendor is all I will say.
I propose that those of you with known corrupted files AND who have also done the "crystal trick", who can also still load something, go back and load that game, use the other money trick, buy all the crystals back from the blacksmith, and destroy the hell out of them with the junk option. Once you save that game see if it still corrupts. For Xbox people this MIGHT just solve the problem....and it'd be a handy way of trying to discover the roots of the problem.

Had this problem the other day. No DLC, no cheats. Mine resulted from overloading camp vendor Bodahn Feddic. My first two playthroughs I sold my junk to different vendors and never had a problem. This time I sold everything to Bodahn and the problem appeared.
It appears to me that my problem relates to the total number of slots being used in the vendors inventory. I worked it back to where everything is fine until I sell him one more item.
As an poorly explained example: I sold him a health poultice which he already had some of in his own inventory. This item I sold goes under his "Junk" tab and takes up another inventory slot. If I save and reload now I get a corrupt save. If I leave the area and come back to check his inventory, that health poultice I sold is now shown under his "Buy Back" and "Useable Items" tabs. Exit his inventory and enter again and it is no longer under the "Buy Back". It remains under "Useable Items" and it hasn't been merged with the existing health poultices he already had in his inventory. Thus it still takes up an extra slot and if I save and reload I get a corrupt save. If I leave the area and come back a second time to check his inventory, however, that health poultice I sold has now been merged with the pre-existing ones. The extra slot is no longer used and if I save and reload I have no problems.
I reloaded my one-away-from-being-corrupt save several times to count the total number of inventory slots being taken up for Bodahn. The number changed around some due to armor switching from Tier 6 to Tier 7 (no idea why it does this). The range I came up with was from 366 to 372 slots being used.
Just out of curiosity for those who have done the crystal glitch, do identical crystals stack in one slot or does each crystal take up its own slot in the inventory? If each takes its own I can see where there might be a problem.
Anyway, maybe someone out there can try to recreate this glitch and prove I'm not as slow as Sandal.
