Don't games released in Europe have higher development costs?  I thought there were X number of languages that had to be used, X number of submissions for ratings, and there could be EU-specific taxes and fees on games released.  That could inflate the cost as well.

Not that much. 75€ are about 105$, that's almost 20$ more than it costs in the US. If you think in large dimensions (i.e. batches) that's a lot of money that can't just all be used for third class translations and (if I remember correctly) two submissions for rating systems (PEGI and the German USK, that should cover the European market). I honestly don't care, i.e. I'm still gonna buy the CE, it's just something I noticed and disapprove of.

No need to use currency rates to prove that the European (including the UK versions) Collector's editions are overpriced- simply look at how much more expensive the European CE is compared to the European standard edition. In the UK it was 75% more expensive for the consoles and 100% more expensive for the PC. The U.S Collector's edition is only 33% more expensive than the standard edition. What's going on?

And also, to address Captain_Obvious's suggestion that development costs may be higher in Europe, that is not really relevant- the regular UK edition is very close in price to the US edition whereas the Collector's edition is disproportionately more expensive in Europe. The only explanation for this is that EA is deliberately raising the price of the CE in Europe (meanwhile giving a lower price to the US version) while keeping the price for the regular edition in Europe the same.

Just orderd one CE Xbox from game.co.uk. Hopefully it is the real deal not like back with DA:O.
Also odered one CE PS3 from amazon.de as well as one PC standard edition from amazon.co.uk. I will be broke when this game hits but there is no other game out there that I would buy 3 versions of! (Also if available on steam later I will get me some nice steam deal someday)

OK, decision made. Once I get the money, I WILL preorder this.

The question was not "is this worth $80" but "is all the extra stuff worth $20". To which I say "yes".

Of course, that all depends on me getting work. I'll be saving up my next few paychecks.

Just go to a gamestop and they'll let you do a CE pre-order. That's what I did since I know there is going to be a midnight release of this game.

I can only speak for myself but I am a collector. If I really like something I want to have it. In this case I want all the different versions just to put into my shelf. Like someone buys an expensive painting I buy 2 CE of ME3. Also supporting Bioware is nice.
This is the exact same reason why I own Firefly on DVD and Blue Ray as well as Serenity on DVD, LE DVD and Blue Ray.
