The wiki even says its a hologram. Is that sword a part of his armor or the omnitool. How can a hologram be a dagger? Can anyone clarify this for me?

I can see it as a kind of neural shock attack, not a pure physical one, maybe an electric discharge? i dunno it seems weird if its just a hologram though.

I think the "omni-blade" is the same tool that is derived from the tech armor.

Easy really, a laser is just another form of projected light just like a projected hologram. It can cut, but wouldnt be able to block anything - much like a lightsaber wouldn't and getting it to a certain length no more and still be able to cut would be.... interesting but we can give them that much right?

If ME holograms work like in Star Trek, they can be become solid and be lethal.

Yeah, it is a hologram. Which is why the OmniBlade makes no sense from any standpoint.

It's AWESOME! That's all the sense it needs to make.

It looks like it´s just a blade shaped kinetic field with an hologram overlapped so the wielder can see where it hits. Nothing really new.

The omni-tool has a suite of manufacturing software that can be used to re-purpose materials commonly found on the battlefield into new objects and composite materials, to be used for field repairs.

My best guess is that Shepard always carries some omni-gel around with him, which he then uses to craft a momentary blade protruding from the omni-tool, whenever he needs it. I'm guessing that the glow is from the omni-tool defining the shape for Shepard, and the actual blade is a strong, clear synthetic material, which makes it look like a holographic blade, but it's actually made of a hard composite that's instantaneously formed from omni-gel (or another material).

That's the best explanation.

Edit: Also, would make sense from a lore perspective. The tech armor, otoh, is just nonsense.

Omni-tools are handheld devices that combine a computer microframe, sensor analysis pack, and minifacturing fabricator. Versatile and reliable, an omni-tool can be used to analyze and adjust the functionality of most standard equipment, including weapons and armor, from a distance.

I actually don't get it either. Then again, I don't buy the tech armor either.

Well, an hologram is light bended to a peculiar shape using either mirrors or electricity and magnetic fields, given what we know of ME technology it's not unfeasable to thing one could overclock the magnetic field as to become seamingly semi-solid: Tech Armour does this, the Shadow Broker Omni-shield did this, he*l even normal kinetic barriers (vulgarly known as shields) do this all the time...

It's the magnetic field that does all the work, the light shape is probably only for show and to allow the user to see where he/she is hitting (considering magnetic fields are generally invisible to the human eye)

The fact it's not actually a solid object explains how easily it penetrates armour... Then it probably discharges some sort of electric shock that burns the target nervous system, perfect one hit kill...

Doesn't the codex say the combat drone was a hard-light construct thing? And the combat drone is just a omni-tool thingy. Sooo...its hard light.

Your explanation also makes perfect sense for Tech Armor. It creates a hardened omni-gel construction suspended by mass effect field, like a combat drone except immobile. Alternatively, it suspends a non-Newtonian fluid in a mass effect field like Grunt's Fortification ability.

Anybody who doesn't find the omni-blade acceptable hasn't been paying attention.

This is one of the best explanations I've seen for this and to be honest there are a lot of possible reasons already in the ME lore that could explain this.

This.

Same goes for a lot of the other things people are calling retcons and plotholes at this point.

We also spontaneously generated EMP grenades and other solid weaponry from them in ME1 via most Tech powers.

I don't see why its hard to believe it might be an upgraded Omni-Tool for any Engineer type ability was created with using an Omni-Tool so having a blade of some type anchor off it doesn't see to be that much of a stretch.
