No, we see pretty clearly this is a shooter.

yes they have indeed put RP and STORY to a back seat... considering they are making the final game a starting point for new people?? ****** off Bioware

What are you on? Every game, whether first part or continuation has to be accessible in SOME form to new players. Do you think every single fan of a multi-game story arc starts with game 1? Many people discover games midway or even in the end of their saga - oh snap let's confuse and ignore them and cater ONLY to the initial fans right?

Seriously? This video is the reason behind most of my complaints. You're right, it's not enough RPG. Why? Because you left out the Role Playing. You guys are so caught up in your cinematic storytelling that you've completely taken control of Shepard away from the players and have made him a predefined character. He makes the choices, and actions without player control. Yeah, you give us the occasional dialogue options or choice, but those have little effect on the game itself.

I like how they showcase the game mechanics instead of spoiling the entire story big time like with ME 2. Of course now the "fans" whine about the opposite.

i was very hard on bioware for the terrible rushed game that is dragon age 2, but i do have hope for mass effect 3. opinions are great, and i hope that we can have a discussion without the questioning of intelligence and calling people "whiners". every game that bioware has dropped has been a buy/pre-order to me...DA2 changed that (pre-ordered and then sold it back after a week) somewhat and some of bioware employees comments after the fact has made me lose a lot of faith, but judging from E3...ME3 looks good so far. i believe bioware when they say it will have more rpg elements.

I guess people ceased to understand the meaning of "Not final product" and "work in progress"

Oh, and by the way, when the story revolves around a elite soldier like Shepard, don't start whining the second there's some shooting involved.

I still think there's one more demo to see, I wont count the kinect and the normal mechanics demos since they were pretty much the same

Well, to be fair Leg - they can show off the additional RPG elements like mods, better skill trees, weapons, etc w/o spoiling any story elements - so the people wanting to see more of the "RPG" have a legitimate point.

What, so not wanting people who picked up your game and are new to the series get a bit acquainted with everything is a bad thing? I understand if the game starts out with a long wall of scrolling text, but so far there's no sign of that.

It's just an E3 presentation... they can't show you the whole game with just a couple of demos man. RPG takes time in a game, and time is precisely what you must economize in a press conference as big as this one.

Pretty sure everyone knows about that. Pretty sure everyone knows this is a shooter, though.

I saw this path, and I tried to divert it.

My apologies for getting a bit more into this, but you're so full of poop your eyes are brown.

All you have done in every thread I have seen is parrot other people and spit the same line "ME is a shooter now" - you haven't contributed anything important, thought provoking or even resembling strong evidence to support it. You simply believe ME is a shooter now for some reason and pretend that you have been crusading to fix it.

Take some note of what people like Beef or Polite are doing - that's how you debate and make your points known, even if you disagree - not base one liners like you're bringing to the table.

I've listed in many forums explicit, detailed reasons why myself and many others perceive that Mass Effect is turning into a shooter. If you perceive otherwise, good for you. And I don't really care what your thoughts are about me, so move along.

We have 10 minutes of gameplay + several trailers and short demos.
And not one RPG element.

Compare that to the Witchers E3 video in 2010

Plays like a shooter,Looks like a shooter,IS a shooter, a shooter/rpg hybrid.
It plays like a shooter because THATS how the combat works
the ´´RPG ´´ is in stats, customization, interactive dialogue with character building, leveling, skill trees etc.
All they are showing is the improved combat,in later trailers we´ll probably learn more about it,or better yet BE PATIENT AND WAIT FOR THE GAME TO COME OUT AND PLAY IT, then you can complain freely about eanything you want.

From what I've seen they've improved the gameplay and squad controls, the thing is though, where's the RPG elements? This is the end to Commander Shepard's story, I expect it to be as long as Dragon Age 1 and to have every little decision carried over. I really hope ME3 isn't as linear as ME2, also I really hope that they have more open side missions with more variety.

oh.... no. The guy descibes RPing as basically same powers just more variety. No word on actual RPing elements like hacking and looting. I literally face palmed. I was hoping they'd have something to rival the stat system in ME1, i want more variety than even that had to offer (which was a lot).

Do you see what I'm talking about? Once we get our streamlined powers to the maximum level, we can choose to evolve them into one of two options, ust like ME2.

This video cannot even begin to express the excitement I'm holding within right now.

Maybe the weapon mod screen, or something. Anything.

We need to see some footage of these so called enhance RPG elements we've heard so much about...period.That will end this debate and start another one.

Absolutely. Only a few words and answers to several features that were delayed (or drasticallychanged) in ME2 would be enough to make people (including me) stop worrying about the RPG side of the game (other than choice / story telling that are indeed awesome in all ME games but not enough to make the game an RPG)

- inventory ( where did my inventory go ^^ ? Christina Norman did a good przzi a long time ago about that but we have no true answer about the return of a true inventory ... if they are so much weapons customisations there must be one ... but if we can only get a limited number of weapons... it's possible that there will be no inventory :/ )

- XP for EACH enemy killed as in ME1 (or sub quest done/progress) and not at the end each mission as in ME2 (I really dislike the mission system on ME2... it breaks the game continuity). I assume every RPG fan enjoy earning XP ... I prefer to gain 100 * (100~200) XP for each enemy i kill every 20 seconds than one time 10000 XP at the end of the mission every two hours.

- lockpicking (hum sorry ... decryption ^^)

- enhanced skill trees (I think we can be relieved here assuming what they annonced about "multiple powers choices" is true)

- influence of RPG statistics (precision, damage...) on the shooter side of the game (Christina Norman said it will be more visible than in ME2 I think)

...

A simple "yes this feature will be in ME3"  (or no :'()  will easily relieved RPG fans ... I really do not know why they keep showing only the action-side of the game :'(

In the whole 5 minute stream he says only one sentence about the RPG elements that "You can choose the version of the power that you want"
But you already had that in ME1 and 2 for the high level power. Is that your "enhanced RPG elements"?

We know from articles in GameInformer that you evolve the same power in multiple ways over the course of its development, rather than just once when it's maxed out. In another interview, Casey also takes about how there will be an upgrade table where we mix-and-match different parts for our weapons, and that armor customization will be more robust as well. Those are your RPG elements.

BeefoTheBold wrote...

Yes, you unsuccessfully tried to do the same sort of thing that I did.

I say unsuccessfully because everything we know about the ME universe we learned in ME1.

1. Where's the Mass Relays come from? What was their purpose? Who created them?
2. What happened to the Protheans?
3. What's the Conduit?
4. What is Indoctrination?
5. What's the Krogan War?
6. Where's the Citadel Council come from?
7. How did humanity find their way onto the galactic stage?
8. Why'd Saren turn bad?
9. Who are the Quarians, Turians, Batarians, Rachni, etc.
10. What caused the Rachni War?
11. What's the purpose of the Presidium?
12. What is the purpose of the Keepers?
13. The Reapers even exist.
14. The Galactic Clensing cycle.

etc. ALL of these things and more we learned in the FIRST game. We learn nothing new except who the Collectors are in the second game. The plot doesn't advance at all. Everything that we love about the Mass Effect storyline with the exception of the Collectors came about as a result of game #1.

Therefore, it's very accurate to say that the story of game #2 was a little weak. It didn't advance the plot significantly. We didn't find out much about the origins of the Reapers or why they hate organics so much. We didn't find out much about how to fight them.

Basically the entire game was spent assembling a team for that suicide mission.

Not saying that the game didn't have some big time strong points. The graphical improvement for example, and a couple of the destinations were cool. The game improved BIG TIME on the side missions.

But the story was weak.

Whether or not I was successful is entirely subjective. Obviously, your view on the matter is equally biased as mine. What I was illustrating was that any plot can be broken down and made to seem woefully shallow if you just write hyperbolic enough.

Moreover, the same list you just made can also be done for ME2.

1. Are there any mass relays that are inaccessible or uncharted but still known?
2. Did any of the protheans  survive their race's extinction? What happened to them?
3.  Why are the collectors abducting human colonists?
4. Can a "dead" reaper still indoctrinate others?
5. What are the Krogan like in their own culture and society, rather than as freelance mercenary thugs?
6. What has happened since our actions radically altered (or preserved) the Citadel Council?
7. What is humanity doing to keep up the pace of its rapid advancement on the galactic stage?
8. How could Cerberus end up on the "right side"?
9. What is the quarian flotilla like? What is life like for quarians who aren't as talented or privileged as Tali?
10. What caused the geth to attack, or follow Saren in the first place?
11. How are reapers created?

Mine isn't as long as yours, but you see my point. Anybody can list in detail the plot points/lore of any universe/story, no matter how good or bad it is.
