So what excuse do you have for not showing any role-playing features?  E3 is the time to show your game as you want people to think of it, so it's pretty clear that you want people to think of it as an action game, not an RPG.

Yeah there weren't much RPG elements, but remember, this is E3 and all it's purpose is to show new stuff and marketing.

They showed the dialog wheel in the presentations of ME 1 because it was something new
and they showed the interrupts in the ME 2 presentations because then they were something new.
As much as I remember they never showed any other RPG elements outside of combat in any E3, so they aren't showing in this one as well and they didn't highlight the dialog this time because there is probably nothing new about it.

Oh, and remember that the E3 trailer of ME 2 was also little more than combat and explosions, the only difference is that this one is more epic.

So right now, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. Except for what Anderson was wearing' that didn't look like Mass Effect at all.

Uh-huh, but in all seriousness you can't blame people for being cautious coming bakc from DA2.

Fair enough. But there was also a distinct difference in why ME2 was received so well and DA2 so badly. DA:O was a 'spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate'. DA2's shift deparated from what made Origins so great. Mass Effect however was an rpg/tps hybrid. And more than a few fans (myself included) felt like those individual elements did not mesh well. This is why Mass Effect 2's streamlined approach was better received.

And on a random point, awesome sig. I'm actually replaying The Frozen Throne right now. Arthas remains a bamf, as ever.

Edit: Chris said it before me! Honestly guys, come on - break down into major RPG elements for an unveiling vid in a limited timeslot with tons of other things going on? The fanbase for this game is becoming so damn spoiled and unreasonable it's sickening.

So compalining that the developers have forsaken their core fanbase for the shooter fans is being negative just to be negative? You have a lot to learn apparently. I don't know which side of the line you stand on, but for people who have supported them when they weren't making ME or DA, its not spoiling when developer completely turns their back on the principles of what made them great and satisfied the consumers back in the day. Bioware's become just like all the other companies out there. Their name used to mean something back then, it used to be unique. Now, they're just another action/shooter developer trying to get a bigger piece of the pie. I don't know when, but somewhere along the way they completely lost their values, and the timeline correlates to when they were acquired by EA.

But apparently speaking negatively about where the games going genre wise is being negative just for the sake of being negative. I must have forgotten that every game Bioware makes is perfect. :innocent:

Justin, are you having trouble following what he said? This is day 1 of E3. Bioware had a few minutes to get ME3 footage rolling and wet our mouths. We have more days of E3 when there will be the time for them to sit down and show off all the new changes under the hood, including RPG additions.

How do you expect them to show off all the new RPG additions and modifications in an opening trailer that's packed between so many others?

I don't know...I get that they want to have us feel the "BIG WAR" thing but the ME universe isn't (for me) about the big things it's about the little moments where you really feel you are Sheppard and you're fighting against all odds making friends and enemies, relationships of all levels and above all choices...those little moments for me were more important that big scenes...I just don't want a full rail shooter, I want tactics, and some real RPG elements to have real immersion in the sotry...I know this is too soon to judge, we have seen very little but we need to see those little special moments that made ME what it is...of course without spoiling much, I know it's har but I feel they can pull it off.

You see the scene with the little kid in the air duct on Earth?  That was a special little emotional moment.

Because that's what the majority of people wants to see when they're at E3, perhaps?

And by the way, ME3 is an action-RPG. BOTH.

Polite, you type alot but all I see is someone being negative for the sake of being negative. People cry and scream about "Do not show too many spoilers!" - and most of the new RPG points aside from new mechanics/deeper skill trees, etc would probably verge on spoilers. However, RPG elements are generally not going to be showcased in the first day of E3 - the first day of E3 is always "Get people on their feet and pumped" and that's going to be major setpieces, action and revving you up for the good to come.

If you paused the vids in their limited time frame to be like "So yeah, here's some new RPG elements..." when they can launch into that over the next few days, it would be using up valuable time they need to get people pumped on day 1.

Please note I want to see all the upgraded RPG elements just as much as any other ME fan, but you writing them off just because day 1 of E3 didn't suddenly drop every single new RPG addition is, frankly, very sad.

We have more days of E3 to go and ME3 is going to be a very prominent showcase. If by the end of this week we don't have ANY new information about the new RPG elements, then I'll definitely be here going waving my "Bioware, give us a bone on the RPG stuff prz" flag too.

Edit: Chris said it before me! Honestly guys, come on - break down into major RPG elements for an unveiling vid in a limited timeslot with tons of other things going on? The fanbase for this game is becoming so damn spoiled and unreasonable it's sickening.

Hey buddy, rewind back 6 months and look at the info released for DA2, see the similarities to right now?

Exactly. Its a stroll down memory lane. Funny how history repeats itself. And what do you know? A March release date too. Such striking similarities... The sad thing is that some people still don't get the picture.

well although it's a bit rough he has a point...you could have put some of those moments in the first videos you showed, you didn't and we  feel it was a mistake...not a terrible one, but you have to admit that this issue is the main and most imprtant one for ME fans

The only RPG they are focusing on, is story telling.. which isn't really RPG at all - really. We've had good story telling by games that were not RPG's... I think they were called Adventure games... So ME3 will just be an Action Adventure game.

Oh, and some generic leveling.. blah-blah-blah.

Totally agree not Impressed so far

Totally agree. The Halo energy sword made me embarassed, and what a disgrace to the omni-tool.

Not impressed, very disappointed. This doesn't feel like Mass Effect anymore.

I have stated time and time again, posting in many threads with negative opinions, that we obviously NEED people to be exacting at times. I have posted my own misgivings, worries and complaints but the difference between you and me is that you are simply writing it off because on Day 1 of ME3's E3 timeslot, when it had basically 3-5 mins of time, you didn't see what you expected and so now Bioware has failed you and is not worthy of your respect or time.

Day 1 of E3 and you're saying that. You tell me if you're being negative to be negative or if you're being honestly negative with a strong case to back it. If by the end of E3, we have not seen ANY deeper RPG elements and the stuff promised, then you can bet I will be here along with you telling Bioware I AM worried about what they are doing with the game. Until then though, I have the common sense to realize [I mean, come on - how long have you been watching E3s?] that E3 day 1 is always about hype and get people pumped before the follwoing days when the devs can show off more w/o being stuck in a 3 minute window.

That's my point - I'm not here trying to bust your chops just because we have a differeing view - I'm opposing you because I feel that you are frankly being entirely too short sighted for the time being.

Edit: And I'm sorry, but you just trying to use the March release date as ammo to back your claims is very dissappointing. What does the release date of ME3 in March have to do with DA2's release date and issues? I would love to see a real factual answer to this versus it being "I'm jumping on the supposition and hyperbole bandwagon cause I can!" please.

Sorry to hear that old friend. But I've got no more hope in Bioware anymore. Its all run out. I would love for the developers to prove me wrong over the coming months, but unfortunately from what I see thats not likely to happen.

Or perhaps your drama over a video game is making some people have trouble taking you seriously. I can count at least three separate instances where you reference some crap about 'morals' or 'values' as it pertains to a company. And, for the record, not all of the core fanbase thinks that Bioware hath forsaken them.

Shooter. Not action game. Whenever you hear the word "action", its code word for shooter.

Such drama. ME3 will be ME2 with some RPG elements added back in. They've even mentioned much of what will be added back in. None of it is very showy, though. They have a few minutes on stage and they're not going to spend it trying to get people hyped about stats on weapons or more customizable armor.

Of course, I suspect many will not be satisfied with the RPG elements they've added back. As Polite has demonstrated, this is rage about the whole direction of the industry and nothing less than a morphing ME3 into DA:O will satisfy them.

love it LOL

We all know ME3 will have dialogue choices and choices that affect the outcome of the game. I think when people are talking about ROLEPLAYING they mean SKILLS that pertain to things other than fighting.... you know, the stats that you used to build up in ME1 and DAO before they streamlined them for noobs. I hated that in ME2 you could hack anything as any character type. Why the hell be an Engineer or Infiltrator? They were appealing classes in ME1 and then they felt kinda redundant seeing as though everyone could hack a console now.

Back in that crappy game called ME1. Action = sales. Action = AWESOME!
