I'm sorry, you are asking "where is the roleplaying" in the (roughly) 3 minutes of in-game video you have seen so far?

Seriously?

Yeah, seriously. We are asking where are the Roleplaying elements in the 4 live demos + online trailers you have shown. It's not like you couldn't release an "RPG elements" trailer/mini feature for sites covering the event.

Try to keep up. ;)

I'm not questioning that you all want more info on RPG mechanics, choice, dialog, etc.

I am quesitoning the OP who seemed to be saying that since we had not shown any RPG elements yet, we must have abandoned RPG.

Glad to know I was totally off base with my silly supposition and it was more the usual demand for MOAR. ;)

Y'all didn't show much RPG wise with ME2 and I never believed it was lacking in the game itself. Guessing they're hoping you'll throw them a bone with an example or segment. Personally I don't want any choices shown that part I want to be a surprise!

So what excuse do you have for not showing any role-playing features?  E3 is the time to show your game as you want people to think of it, so it's pretty clear that you want people to think of it as an action game, not an RPG.

Yea, a trailer showing someone fiddling through menus allocating stats and choosing abilities sure makes for fun trailer viewing...

Seriously, you want to show all the white hot action of managing inventory? Maybe an exciting shot of the level up screen? Wait, people always oooh and ahhh at modifying your weapons!! Threads like this continue prove I grossly overestimated the intellect of RPG players.

This is pretty much how the fans here work. If you take out the action and add in more RPG elements like they ask, they are going to complain that the game has no action and is boring. If you add in more action elements then people are going to complain that there are no RPG elements, and is still boring. And if you try to mix the two together people will try to make up something about the game to **** at.

So basically, you have an unpleasable fanbase.

Hey guys, so what's u-

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHH!

The negativity! THE NEGATIVITY! IT BURNS, IT BURNS!

Seriously though, chill.

If you were disappointed with DA2 and lost all hope in Bioware then don't buy this game until you read the reviews. :D

Alternatively, we could use the forums for their intended purpose: to give feedback and customer concerns to the developers in the hopes of getting games more to our liking in the future.

Beef, much respect to you for hitting on the point of the forums - however, do you believe that some of the people spitting teeth in this thread are using the forums for this purpose? I'm enjoying debating with Polite, because he puts thought to his posts, even if I feel he's being too early on the whistle blowing - however I see more posts about people just immediately chalking E3 ME3 showings off to a loss and "RPG and Bioware are dead and I'm not touching this game anymore!" w/o letting Bioware have a chance to fully show off all the new toys and mechanics we'll have to play with.

If by end of E3 we are still left with nothing but action trailers and some talking, these forums should be used by sensible individuals like yourself to convey that, but w/o the needless dramamongering and self-entitlement so many seem to bring when they post a negative opinion. Please note - I would argue that there are many on the positive/fanatic defense side who should also be less "RAAAAAAGE" over said opinions too. We're all here as fans of the ME franchise, even if we all have differing views on what we want from the game.

I know, dude. It doesn't raise confidence. Granted the action looks epic, but it just feels so Gears of War. I expect more news on the characters and RPG elements.

Such drama. ME3 will be ME2 with some RPG elements added back in. They've even mentioned much of what will be added back in. None of it is very showy, though. They have a few minutes on stage and they're not going to spend it trying to get people hyped about stats on weapons or more customizable armor.

Of course, I suspect many will not be satisfied with the RPG elements they've added back. As Polite has demonstrated, this is rage about the whole direction of the industry and nothing less than a morphing ME3 into DA:O will satisfy them.

Are you kidding me.. hell the Ghost Recon presentation showed more inventory RPG mechanics then ME ever has. Fully customization weapons... ME refuses to touch something like that with even a 20 foot pole - because a 10 foot pole doesn't even cut the distance needing to keep away from such stuff. (ME3 says they would have something like that.. and it took only a minute too show it... so no.. ME3 is all about interactive storytelling action.. "RPG" is dead).

Err - the modifying a weapon for a few minutes on screen part is more RPG then ME has ever showcased? Really? >.>

It's more than what we've been shown on Mass Effect 3.

We haven't seen any details on the roleplaying piece of ME3 is the general criticism. The ability to customize equipment is an example of an RPG element, and does indeed go further than what EA showed us during the E3 reveal today.

Doesn't necessarily mean that the final game of ME3 won't be MORE of an RPG than Ghost Recon, but it does serve as a good example of what people mean when they ask the question, "Um...so when do we get to see the RPG elements?"

The biggest area of concern after both ME2 and DA2 was the stripped down and removed RPG pieces. Bioware has assured us that they're aware of the concern. But they didn't show anything today that specifically addresses that concern. If anything, they left many people MORE concerned because their ME3 demonstration took much the same approach as games like Gears of War took.

Compare this E3 trailer with the E3 trailer for ME1. Very different focus on gameplay elements.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that after DA2, ME2 removing many RPG elements and all ME3 videos showing only shooter sequences people are wary of Bioware and don't exactly believe their words.
They haven't shown any RPG love in the last 18 months, so yes, showcasing ME3 as the next Sci Fi shooter is getting people anxious.

I don't see how people fail to understand that, I mean, unless they are the ones Bioware is trying to cater to, and are only here for the shooter parts of ME3, in which case they are seeing exactly what they expect.

Given that we have nothing more to go on, and I do trust Christina Norman's word, yes, I believe them. She said Mass Effect 2's combat would be more exciting, and as far as I'm concerned she delivered thoroughly. In ME1 I was bored with the combat mid-way through my first playthrough, and just wanted to experience the rest of the game. In every ME2 playthrough I dread running out of missions with combat because it's just as fun as the dialogue and decision-making.

No. The focus is exactly the same: they're focusing on what is new and different about the game. The dialogue wheel was a new thing in ME1, and the entire concept of a gritty space marine sci-fi action RPG was pretty unique. They showcased those elements. Now, the new things are big, open mission vistas, combat mobility, and omni-tool murder.

Sorry to hear that old friend. But I've got no more hope in Bioware anymore. Its all run out. I would love for the developers to prove me wrong over the coming months, but unfortunately from what I see thats not likely to happen.

Don't like it, don't play it.

I sure as hell won't miss people that starts to whine about stuff that the developers have constantly promised that they're working on the second those things aren't showed in every single gameplay video.

I believe that Bioware will deliver a game much like ME2. They have said that they are adding back in more RPG elements. They have no reason to lie. Whether it will be enough for you, I suspect you will learn in time. Wailing and pulling out your hair because they didn't reveal them on day one of E3 (or at E3 at all) is a little overkill, don't you think?

That said, I suspect for those who really disliked ME2, that they may very well feel the same about ME3. Just a feeling.

To ge tthe rpg fans to preorder while catering to the shooter fans to buy the game, too.

I wouldn't miss them either, but the trouble is that they won't leave. They'll just keep buying the games and whining about how much they've been let down, and we'll still have to listen to it.

Yeah, she also said that planet scanning was better than physical exploration. In any case, SHOW, don't tell. The only thing they've shown so far is how pretty ME3 of a shooter is. Time constraints are no excuse, for the people who are following the E3 live streams Casey Hudson has already given two interviews and live demos (non conference demos) and nothing resembling an RPG has been shown.

Good story that pulls you in but yes the gameplay was as he said crappy! We can have BOTH over the top action and deep RPG elements it's not as hard to create as some believe.

Maybe it was because the E3 audience has a different taste? Or maybe because they didn't have enough good footage of the RPG aspects that didn't have spoilers in them?

Anyone ever thought of that?

even highschool children find the phrase "AWESOME BUTTON!" to be a mockery of their gaming habits.

Yes shooters make money, yes shooters and action pew pew attract a wider audience and range of customers.

But stop embarrassing yourselves, please
