You know why ME 3 was delayed? For Kinect support...

I thought it was because they could stylize the (3) in the release date of march.

I could never bring myself to say out loud, "Insertcharacterhere, I love you" or any other similar line. Why bother when Shep will say something different anyways? The combat thing is nice I guess, but I'll be alot faster just hitting the button. I'd prefer he'd say those things if I pressed a button for them to move up. After awhile I feel I would get tired of talking and just resort to button pressing again.

And innovation? Games have been doing voice commands for the better part of a decade. Don't even try to spin it like only kinect can do it.

What do you guys think of the Kinect's role in Mass Effect 3? At first I thought the dialogue was a bit cheesy and all but the voice command thing was pretty cool, it's like playing shooter games on xbox live. A good addition but I think I would still use the power wheel from time to time just because I got used to it.

Me and my friends were joking around that there will be a surprise feature when the Kinect is used for the romance scenes just like in Heavy Rain lol.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS.... getting to punch that annoying reporter with your own swing using the kinect and enacting other paragon and renegade moments like throwing a grenade and stuff.

I'm horrified with this announcement! I don't see the need for it, how hard is it at the minute to chose what to say? not very. I know that I won't use it because it will prevent me from talking to my friends in party and because I will all ways be in constant fear that someone will walk in and say something that will forever ruin my game!

I would much rather have no kinect and bioware focus on other aspects of the game, use the data space for more missions rather than kinect!

Chill, people it's not like it's mandatory to use Kinect and just because they spent time developing that doesn't seem to have a negative effect on the game. The E3 videos explain it all....

The dialog thing is kind of silly, I guess? But I kind of like the idea that you can issue voicecommands for combat.

It seem a little weird speaking something for a voiced protagonist, I can see this kind of working for a silent one ala DA:O, still sceptical about it though but it's optional anyway.

Why? I don't understand this at all. It's a completely optional feature, if you don't want it, don't use it! It changes absolultely nothing unless you want it to.

Just observing, it seemed like almost every new game shown at the convention has now added in a kinect option. Why? At the very core of the issue, what was the motivation? I can't help but wonder if MS sweetened the deal if Kinect option was added. I recall that MS charges a fee for these games or something like that (I think the issue came out with the discussion of how many discs MS will allow a game to have). I wonder if there was a price break, if you will. Anyone with better insight?

My question exactly. Will kinect also work on the PC version of the game? As far as I know an official PC version of Kinect was announced but without any sort of release date. So far I can buy kinect only in bundle with a XBOX Game which I don't and will not have any use for. So unless Microsoft officially releases Kinect (and official drivers for it) for PC this feature seems to be Xbox 360 only. Am I wrong?

I remember bringing up Kinect for ME3 (back when I thought Kinect would be used in a revolutionary way not for on rails Fable crud, seriously like inventing a time machine and using it to cook toast) and being laughed out of the forum. It isn't mandatory and the issuing of orders is better than flying the Normandy, arms outstretched. Still, the facial scanning tools will be too ropey for a long while and the only real applications will be stuff like this. Kinect disappointed me, but it's optional, so, let some people role play Shepard and issue orders if they wish. I'll never believe the promises of mega powerful, money hungry corporations again.

In my opinion, the kinect voice commands are a nice addition to the game. The dailogue wheel portion is quite stupid but the combat portion looks to be useful. I am on the 360 and pausing the game to issue commands is annoying at times, especially on insanity. However, issuing commands through voice will eventually get tiring after a while.

Nevertheless, I think the kinect features are interesting and will be entertaining for a while, but will eventually be redundant.

Wow yay! Shepard might not say whats on the wheel but now I can! Way to go Bioware....

With this you say one thing and Shep will still say another. It's not word-for-word.

Will the ability to use kinect in ME3 (or others) cause the machine performance to be detrimentally affected, i.e. take away processing speed, graphically, whatever? In other words, for those that don't have Kinect, I don't want my experience to be lessoned by the Kinect option.

What? the kinect won't affect anything. The great thing about this addition, it works both ways with people who like it and people who don't. It won't affect machine performance but if you're talking about someone making a mod for the PC then it might have chances of getting glitches since the kinect is designed and meant only for the Xbox 360. but if you're just a normal gamer, then theres really nothing to be worried about.

Great, thanks. I recall earlier postings of folks saying that just the mere option of the kinect on an XBOX game would take away performance since the machine had to 'reserve' processing for the option, even when not in use.

Even if that were true, the performance 'defect' would be hardly noticeable. It was just like that video wherein they were comparing a PS3 and Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect 2. Yes, PS3 had more defined graphics but it wasn't a large difference. PS3 was just more defined and nothing else. All I'm saying is, sometimes people in the forums tend to focus on trivial matters. I don't blame them, I try to find topics to talk about to other fans since I know how it feels like to be all bottled up about my Mass Effect addiciton.

I dont care about Kinect since im PC/PS3 but I think its a great thing! For one Im happy that they obviously got money from Microsoft for this and their budget got bigger (If theyve been clever they got more money for it then they actually need to build in the Kinect function)
Also they maybe pushed the date back for it and therefor the 95% people of that Bioware studio who have nothing to do with the Kinect stuff have more time to polish. And its optional. I really see not one logical reason to complain about this.

I think squad commands is one of those annoying necessary and cumbersome things with the controller. Voice control just makes a lot of sense. If you address people in real life, you TALK TO THEM!

The is pretty cool, but not really that useful. What about using biotics with Kinect?

That's not true. It launched with Spanish and Japanese as well.

Also, for games that are just using the Kinect voice recognition, it's not that hard to add because the xbox libraries do nearly all the work. So a lot easier to do than adding voice recognition to other platforms/non-kinect xbox games as then the developer has to write their own sound processing and voice recognition code, which is a lot of development time that could be spent adding something else that everyone playing will benefit from. That's probably why it got added to so many games this time around.

Yeah, pretty much pointless. I don't think talking to my TV would really enhance the experience at all.
