I guess my point it was just a poor design choice.
And 100k, again I have to clarify the Jersey Shore bit was the affiliation to fans of shooters, not Vega's actual design. I'd rather they keep away from the generic shooter character look, such as Sgt. "Sev" from Killzone or the Soap redesigns.
I apologize for the effort you had to lay the hammer on me, though it was a great read.
How many Jersey Shore fans do you think play ME!? Hell, how many males like Jersey Shore and the boys in it enough to feel the "relate-ability" of a character in Mass Effect to Pauly or Vinnie??? Less than 3%? 5% being generous? Less than the percentage of black, hispanic, or Asian players? Less than the percentage of female players?
And keep in mind that Halo and Gears of War have very diverse casts of characters, NONE of whom fit the stereotype of a gueedo (or however the hell it's spelled).
Look, everyone is stereotyped. A lot of people view Marines as big, dumb apes who just follow orders, though that is nowhere near the case. People have their views of what those of different race, financial standing, and social standing act and look like. Jersey Shore was just the only comparison, and perhaps mistakenly as I am among this group and nothing like the people on the show, I could think of for frat boys. Its not meant to be an insult.
What I'm saying is that whoever designed Vega generalized what a fan of shooters wants their character to look like. And to me it was a poor design. Now that is only my opinion. Others may like the design and want it to be final. I'm just voicing my opinion that it was a wrong generalization of what these new players would want in a character.
For all I know, I may also be misinterpreting Bioware's intent with Vega and his design.
I don't give a crap about Jersey Shore, who is in it, and if those who like or are in the show are into Mass Effect. It was just the split second response that came to mind with Vega. With a lot of outside media, and even many gamers, comparing fans of shooters to people like those on the show, it sort of ticked me off that Bioware seemed to be generalizing his look in that fashion.
Again, the above was my opinion, and in split-second. Maybe I shouldn't be defending it for it being so, but calling me a shallow individual or an ***hole for it, over a game character, is rather ridiculous.
And I love the characters in Gears and Halo, and can't wait to play their next iterations.
